Putting aside the track - which, for a British artist (back in 1988), was outstanding in it's own right - there was an actual story behind the title. Benjamin Balogun (Overlord X) was so moved by a BBC documentary based on the wrong conviction, and subsequent execution in the US, of Edward Earl Johnson that he wrote "14 Days In May".
The documentary itself was named Fourteen Days In May (broadcasted in 1987) and was following the last 14 days of Edward Earl Johnsons life, where he was on death row for the alleged killing of a white police officer and indecent assault of a 69-year-old white woman. In a follow-up documentary, it claimed to prove conclusively that Edward Earl Johnson was innocent and had been framed.
The point of my review is this - I am all for music being fun, light-hearted and to jump around to, not peddling a message or brainwashing. However, on this occassion music was used to immense effect in highlighting an injustice - AND done by a British Rapper.
Almost 30 years old and it's lost none of its power. Mighty track.
I played this tune over and over and over as a 15 year old kid in a tiny village in Yorkshire. I had the magazine Hip Hop Connection delivered monthly to the local post office. All my mates were into Def Leppard and Whitesnake. Years later, in London, I became friends with Normski (he was the in-house photographer) and he DJed at my 43rd. Mad world. Brought here by the Streetsounds Electro group on FB
i used to buy that mag! i also bought this 12'' back then, i was 25 and a dj.
@@griffo-griffo i don't know why I was so drawn to the hip hop world but it seemed more interesting to me and was so far removed from my Yorkshire village life
Still have about 50 of my mags
good man@@adamlloyd3688 no idea where mine went...
This track hasn't aged one bit, loved it in '88 still love it now...
Time flies too quick... 20 years ago! 20 YEARS AGO This track was made.. wow. I still remember listening to Dave Pearse on Nite FM and hearing this track for the first time like it was just a few years ago.
time flies. just 12 years ago you made this comment.
I've loved this tune since I was about 12 - I'm 47 now. Please look into it's history and what they are talking about. I can't express how much ya'll need to hear this truth.

This tune introduced hip hop to my life
Anyone remember the video to this played on british tv wayu back? great british hip hop track.
I remember listening to this for the first time in '88 on hip hop 20 was totally blown away. I called it "Hard Hop"
awesome a kid at an all boys school in akl nz bought overload x in dubbed.. we jammed it loud all through art class... 1988.. it was the baddest days
UK hip-hop did very much have its own sound, looking back. Kold Sweat label, Gunshot, Blade et al. We tried to get all American after a while and lost our distinctive identity. Last good UK hip hop was The Brotherhood.

You can hear the Chuck D influence pretty heavily. Dope track regardless
This is the real deal. I bought this when it came out in 1988 and it sounds as good now as it did then. They just don't make real rap music like this anymore....
