I'll tell why there official amtrak products. Because the sdp40f was bought by amtrak in the early 1970's. However the engines unreliable due to the water tanks in the back sloshing around making the engine bounce and bounce off the tracks. The f40ph replaced the sdp40f. The santa fe bought 18 of the former amtrak engines and converted them into freight locomotives. The santa fe removed the water tanks. One of them was painted into Maserk sealand colors which was sdp40f 6976. I suggest you look up amtrak 365's video about the sdp40f called engines of amtrak.
@@nightfury8440 Possibly, if you can get it to slow down enough with just voltage... would it be better to use a micro servo motor to emulate the slow and high speed of the real one?
Very nice covering of your display stand. It really improves the viewing experience. Very nice locomotives.👍👍😷🛤
I like how there's a spare knuckle mounted on the engineer side of the rear truck.
Those are beautiful locos I saw them at a hobby shop and there cooler in person
So I bought the SDF40 ATSF 5266 and its beautiful! Runs great, pulls a lot! I love it! It was extremely loud, I turned it way down.
j'adore tes vidéos, je suis français le train américain est ma passion !, tu m'aide beaucoup dans mes choix, tu est un vrai professionnel ! merci !!!

Good review James! I have the Amtrak version, which you did a review on a while back. Much appreciated!

Had few ride in old santa fe p45 sdp40 use few as work train , back in day ,
looks like an intermitent LED in the top headlight. Sweet looking loco
probably the camera refresh rate and not the actual LED
I wonder how long it will be before the windshield wipers actually work...
Haha, that would be a childhood dream of mine come true
At the rate these Model Model train manufacturers are going, probably a couple of years, lol!
I'm more of a radiator fan type of guy...lol
@@ColAngus actually I think that would be easy enough to do. PE fan kit and a small moter.

Nice review James! I might get one of these for my layout someday!
Amazing detail on these, great vid as always 👍
Was wondering how long till the wheels would get re railed lol
Thanks James!
Nice review James, I think the top light on the Maersk unit may be weak or it’s just the camera. But great engines overall.
Keep it up 👍🏻
Damn that maersk one looks really good, i might try to get one of those.
The loco was derailed from 12:23 to about 14:48! Over two minutes!
hola buen dia muchas gracias por subir el video abrazo grande
Awesome video James!
That engine run-up was sublime... I may have thrown a rod...
Welcome back buddy
Very nice 👍 video bro. I am Greetings from India 🇮🇳🙋.
The prime mover sounds just like the bachmann dd40ax
The DD uses the same engine as the other 40 series locomotives. It just uses two instead of one, so it should sound the same just louder.
@@cp368productions2 learn something new everyday, thanks!
both units were owned by bnsf but sold off to shortlines and scraped
Wish I had the money for
It
Is the top bulb of the headlight not working? I'm having that issue too. Sometimes both turn on but most of the time one of the lights doesn't turn on
6976 was amtrak 644
the rear number broads don't seem to be lit on the Maersk, and didn't see ANY on rear of the Santa FE
Get it on the track
0:58 *mersk*
Nice review James now all you have to do is to derail them 50 times and that will be realistic considering the mind damage they had in their time
just scored the same Santa fe loco (5251) off ebay.....cheaply!!
WOOHOO it just arrived today awesome......sounds great! Can't wait to weather it. You were spot on about jerkiness at step1 and smooth after step2
They are missing the main thing. NO DRIVER
No they don't own it I think BNSF was the one that owned that unit
Probably required an Amtrak license because the SDP40F was an Amtrak locomotive originally...
