Quick and Thrifty Ways to Build a Dog Ramp and Steps

- My handy husband built a dog ramp in one afternoon and the steps in about hour and a half.
During the pandemic , we had to get creative to help our senior dog get up and down the double deck and on and off the sofa. Using leftover decking material saved us a ton of money. Needless to say, the ramp could set you back a few hundred dollars if you had to purchase the lumber, however, isn’t your dog worth it? The steps cost us approximately $25-$30. Very simple project.
I would love to hear some feedback and if anyone out there has made ramps or steps for their pets please feel free to post in the comments section or on my facebook page

Im so sorry for your loss of Zoey and your mother
Thank you so much for making those accommodations and then sharing with us so we can do the same for our babies ❤️ your little girl would be so proud
Good work! Just found this looking for design ideas. Love the rubber mat. It always suuuuper sux to lose a close friend, but we are ALWAYS better for having them in our lives, always. RIP Pooper.
I'm very sorry you lost your beautiful pup. I have four 10 year old pups and one of them will be leaving us soon due to a cancer diagnosis. I ordered some steps for the bed from Amazon but a small ramp for my exterior steps to the backyard would be great. He probably doesn't have enough time left for me to figure out the ramp, but his siblings will appreciate it. Thanks for finishing the video. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been.
I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my Katie back in 2016 and before her death, installed a stair lighting system on my deck stairs so she could see them easier. She didn’t get as much use out of it as I would have hoped. I’m sure she enjoyed the ramp compared to steps while she had them.
I’m so so sorry for the loss of your wonderful Zoey💖
May she run free in Heaven!
This was very helpful, thank you.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for peace and healing.
Thanks for sharing... I'm just glad we will all be reunited with our fur babies in heaven. Thanks again.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Good job on those steps very good options I will be trying this out thank you
I'm so sorry for the loss of your Zoey. She was lucky to have had someone that loved her so much and you were lucky to have had such a wonderful friend.
So sorry to hear about your beloved fur baby! I lost both of my old gals 14 yr old pit LulaBelle and 17 yr old chihuahua Princess Peaches last year. I feel your pain. Now, I have have one old guy left Mr.Tiddies 11yrs and his son Titä 8yrs, both chihuahus. Mr.Tiddies is getting elderly and is time for a ramp. Thanks for your great ideas for our elderly fur babies! Remember... ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN!😊😇🥰

Thankyou..our Sadie is older now and our back stairs are way to difficult for her..we gave been lifting her up and down those stairs...it breaks my heart. Saw your video and am going to build her a ramp..TY for the inspiration.
I’m glad to hear that it gave you the inspiration! Unfortunately we only kept those ramps for a few weeks, and took them down shortly after she passed. But I’m glad we built it even for the short time that it helped her
very helpful, especially using the crates, thanks, and sorry for the loss of your pupper
Sorry for your loss. I have a 14 year old staffishire terrier and he doesn't get up the steps of my house too well even though I give him cosequine 3 times a day. I needed some ideas to help him out and this video helped a lot.
So sorry for your loss..
We have to do what we van to make their life comfortable..
Thank you.
Friday February 4, 2022 is the 1 year anniversary of Zoey’s passing. I am flooded with so many memories of those last few days with her. My heart still hurts❤️
Love is all around!
Sweet Zoe. So sorry for your loss.
Thank you
Thank you so much for your video we have a 16-year-old border calling mix name Bailey that has trouble getting up our steps and by watching your video she will never have to walk up the steps again thank you
Aww thank you so much! I hope the ramp works out for you.
Thank you for the video this will be useful for our dog.
I’m glad to hear that! Please send me a photo if you can.
I'm trying to use a metal ramp from Harbor Freight (already owned it so why not), but even with mats my dogs refuse to go up or down. I guess some treats might be in order (or hotdogs because dog treats didn't work today). Thanks for the video :)
Hm… Does it make any rattling noises or shifting in anyway ? This can make them feel uneasy. Keep trying with the treats and hopefully that works.
Thank you for sharing and I'm so sorry you lost your girl...😪
Thank you ❤️
I'm sorry for your loss.....
Thank you. Even though I now have two rescue dogs from the Bahamas, . My Zoey will always be missed and never forgotten.
Sorry for your loss. We share the same birthday, may 10.
I'm so sorry for your loss! May Zoey rest in peace, till you meet again ! I'm actually scared to attempt this for my guy seems everyone that decides to make ramps there dogs pass shortly after :( I do want to make his life easier though :( Feeling conflicted.
Well, we actually should’ve built the ramp sooner but for some reason put it off. Even though she passed shortly after, and I felt bad for my husband doing all that work, he said that he didn’t care because he was glad that she at least used it and it helped her even if it was for a short while. ❤️
Say strong the loss of any animal can be hard
I am so sorry for your loss thank you for the video my dog is 15 years old and is struggling going up and down stairs , any suggestions for inside the house two story home
I would definitely keep him on the main floor. As for the stairs, obviously carpeting helps, or rubber stair mats for traction. Even on the floors themselves, I would keep carpet runners that he can walk on and not slip. My dog needed that around his bed when he got up. Otherwise he actually wore a really good dog booty with rubberized bottom on his one bad leg Which really helped him whenever he got up from laying down
@@lisaoram7978 thank you for the reply I also would like to thank you for your video I made two of them for my dog and loves them please keep making videos
@@roseaguirre8138 aww thank you.
Hey everyone, I wish I could have replied earlier to all the kind words and heartfelt comments, but I lost my mother a few weeks ago. I will be adding a few more videos in the upcoming weeks! Take care and stay safe!
Sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I am so sorry, it's never easy to lose them.
God speed Zoey.
I am so saddened to hear of the passing of your lovely companion Zoey.
I'm sure that Zo-Zo appreciated the efforts that you made to enhance her life and that she brought lots of happiness to you and your home.
Your remaining dog must be heartbroken too and will surely be missing it's companion. Do you intend getting a new companion?
Zoey had a lengthy life by dog average, my previous dogs were all around 12 when they passed.
My current dog, Ruben, is approaching 12, his movement gas become a lot slower this last 6 months, just as Zoey looks in your video, and now struggles to get into the car.
Like yourself, I am looking for ways to make his remaining time easier, hence I found your video looking for ideas.
I was considering building a ramp to ease Rubens access into our car, however I did purchase one earlier in the year but he refused to use it🥴.
Your step looks a good alternative but akward to store in the car. Maybe if I could make it foldable it would work?
I wonder, did you make anything to aid Zoey's access into your car?
I share your grief and heartbreak, I have been there many times at the loss of my pets, It gives me comfort to think about all the joy and happiness that we had given to each other during their lifetime....I'm sure that you will too.
Best wishes.
Hi David. Appreciate the kind words. Yes I was lucky to have Zoey for over 14 years. I had purchased a foldable ramp a few years ago to help my dogs in/out of the car but it did not have enough traction and my dogs were hesitant to use it. Depending on the size of your dog the two steps I made would work to assist a dog into a car and would fit in the trunk. Hope that helps!
You didn’t show how to make the outdoor ramp
Could you send me the plans for this? 8/14/2023
No specific plans. We simply measured the length of boards along with the width we needed. Purchased the rug and trimmed to fit the ramp.
Sorry about Zoey 😔
