I highly recommend waxing yourself. I was too lazy to do it myself, so I took my skis to a shop for waxing. They did a terrible job and didn't even scrape off the excess wax. Some places didn't even have waxing, it was perfunctory and rough, and they even charged me $20.
I'm just getting back into snowboarding after about a 20 year layoff. Seeing what places charge to tune a board and what all is involved, I'll be getting my own kit. It's really not rocket science and once again for the price, I'd rather be able to tune my board for a season or more instead of once at a shop.

Teach a man to fish, a lifetime of inexpensive waxes.
