The Crowes burnt that stage down in this show. Amazing. Also, Audley Freed is a beast, he deserves the credit.

I have to say, I forgot how "energised" the band were around the time of By Your Side, especially after the 'vibey' Amorica and 3 Snakes. This was definitely when they discovered how to be an out and out Rock n Roll band again, despite how awesome the previous 2 albums had been.
Whether it was chemically enhanced or not, they never sounded so urgent as a live band in the years since, even though I class the 2006 reunion with Marc Ford as their best live lineup. There was just something about them during this 1998-1999 period which was really special.
By Your Side was definitely a return to form for the band for sure. I think any line up with Marc is the best line up, whether it's his time in the 90's or the 05/06 reunion, he's definitely my favorite of the lead guitarists they ever had. Jeff, Audley and Luther are all killer players in their own right, but for the Crowes, Marc was the guy, hands down.
@@hashysh13 Totally agree. His tone and fluid, effortless playing is out of this world and is the perfect foil for Rich. The 'Into The Fog' live album showcases this perfectly along with Sven's unbelievable groove that locks in with Steve as a rhythm section. It's a shame Chris's vocals sound a bit weathered on that album/dvd as its damn near perfect apart from that.
A lot of of the hardcore fan base hate on BYS and I've never really understood why (apart from the fact Marc wasn't on it) but Audley completely slayed on that album and tour.
@@JimFyfe-tb2df Audley didn't play on BYS. All the guitars are Rich.
@@drivingwheel9101 True. But what a tour this was. Saw them on a hidden small club warm up date (like this) in August 98 in Milwaukee...then Jan 09 opening night full tour Milwaukee.......what a time it was! legendary

I was at this show, it was UNBELIEVABLE. Whole band rocked out from note 1 ! Crowd was being driven insane😲 Audley absolutely superb as Chris sang his head off
As for the band as a whole, it's the finest I ever saw them and that includes the incendiary show they gave at their Marquee gig in '90

I saw them on this tour in a student union in Glasgow. They obviously weren’t selling many tickets or albums at this time of their career. They were fucking brilliant that night though.
I was at that one..sold out in a few days.. I had to get a contact who knew the promoter to get us in

The "Band Sessions" from "The Lost Crowes" is my number Two, "Lions" number Three and "Before The Frost" number Four. Nothing wrong with that. At least not for me.

And they do here too. Just the main guitar solo from Whole Lotta Love before going into the MMS jam. Always wished they played at least one verse with THAT riff, but they obviously liked to tease!
They were going for a huge comeback but it didn't work.. I still love their later work like cabin fever, before the frost and wArpaint.. Great undervalued eps...
