    Elaine, you can do it, I know it must have been hard to hear Bin's, truths. However, honesty is the best policy and he explained what you should do to improve. You will improve, it is true that you have to say to your instructor what you want to practice. They will not take offence at you saying/requesting, if they are good instructors. Practice makes perfect, and you will reach a good level to pass. I admire your dedication.

    Really disappointing that earlier this year I’m assuming an instructor told Elaine that she was ready for a test and the fact she failed twice and what she showed here that was a poor decision. I feel bad for her because she probably feels like she should be passing but she needs more work and it’s wrong of the instructor to put her up for tests

    I really wonder if her instructor did what mine did- even my mock test the day before my real test he was instructing me, he just couldn’t help himself, never actually let me make any decisions myself which does you a disservice when it comes to driving independently and making decisions. She seems like she gets things when prompted but just lacks confidence and the ability to plan and make her own decisions- so possibly she’s been over instructed. I passed first time but this was entirely down to doing private practise with my husband who would let me figure it out for myself. Her instructor needs to be teaching her to make decisions rather than just go through routines in my opinion.

      I'm so thankful for my instructor i had lessons for about 6 months and passed first time. During my mock test i made soo many serious and minor faults but he never said anything till he told me the results. He said i know u don't make this many faults so i'm guessing you are stressing about it. I told him this is how anxious i would be during the test so i wanted to fully emulate it to make it easier for myself. He believed me even as he saw my dodgy reverse bay parking during my actual test. The examiner let me off only because everything else was perfect and another learner parked in the bay next to me when he shouldn't be there during test time, she said i had a feeling u overcompensated because of him. He laughed.

      @@bluestarlivesforever9415 Well done! it sounds like your instructor taught you well and trusted you to make safe decisions because you’d definitely learned how to do that. Definitely how it should be done. Your examiner could obviously see you make good decisions too and knew that your parking wasn’t because you couldn’t do it. My instructor only did 1 mock and at one point he said “why have I just given you a fault”- like a) that’s not how a mock test works and b) all it did was distract me from driving by making me sit there trying to guess what I’d done wrong. It turned out I’d gone 1mph above the speed limit- speed was the 1st thing I checked when he said about the fault but it had already gone back down in the 2 seconds it took me to look so I never would have worked out what the fault was, and it never would have been marked on test. Absolute tw@ waffle 😂 I was fuming when I saw after I passed he immediately put his prices up; I couldn’t justify paying him what I was he was that bad, never mind more.

    • @keith6400
      @keith6400 Місяць тому +3

      It really depends on how it works. I had a manual car with an electronic parking brake. When you stopped you could apply the handbrake by pulling the switch to "on". When you wanted to move off it automatically released itself as the car started to move consequently if you were facing uphill on an degree of steepness it never rolled back. It made sense to turn it on whenever you stopped.

      Also knew someone who apparently failed on 15 minors and my own instructor was flabbergasted when I told him. He said he'd never had any of his own pupils manage that before and by that stage you'd be expecting a recurring problem to be upgraded to a serious. But this was 20 years ago when testing standards and the criteria were very different, for starters the examiners spoke Latin and you had to demonstrate turning the handle on the front.
      But I do work with someone who seems to have failed a test on a Dangerous. They didn't elaborate but sheepishly admitted that they had to walk back to the test centre.

    26:20 Hmm, it's almost like driving school vehicles should have some kind of warning, maybe a big red 'L' for learner so you know they might do something unexpected or suddenly stop and to keep your distance.

      It's almost like official driving school vehicles have livery and official signage that a normal learner doesn't use on their own car.
      Pretty sure it's actually illegal to display L plates if there isn't a learner at the wheel - there has to have been a time where a police car has spotted a single-occupant car with L plates and asked for a chat to clarify things.
      Official driving school vehicles are the only exemption and even then the roof sign is normally magnetic and easily removable.

      But never ever press the gas without getting the bite point first as it will release.

    I was never, and still aren't, a huge fan of doing mock tests with learner drivers (who you would know if you were their instructor) that are clearly not ready. All it does is destroy their confidence in the ability they do have. How is it beneficial to destroy their confidence? It might make good 'youtube' material, it does not make good drivers.

    I have a question for you as an driving instructor. Obviously I'm not from the UK and we drive on the right hand side as well as some rules being different but still you have experience on teaching driving learners. Here in my country you usually start by going on an empty spot dedicated for learners to practice. You practice the basics there for a few hours and then when the instructor feels you are ready you go on the road. I now currently have 3 hours of learning experience and I was kind of surprised that the second lesson (after just 1 hour previously) we already went to the road. Obviously I'm still struggling with the basics but fell like the more I try the better I do but there's obviously so much more I need to learn. So what do you think is that something that is usual for some to gi straight to the road from the perspective of the instructor. Thanks for the answer.
