Street artist Retna paints for Crane.tv

This LA-based street artist is currently on the road with his latest exhibition, the "Halleluja World Tour". Despite hints of Asian calligraphy, Incan and Egyptian hieroglyphics, Hebrew and Arabic script in his work, Retna likens himself more to a typographer rather than inventor of a new language. Are the marks letter forms of the Roman alphabet i.e. a script? And is he creating words? He stated that he started out with Blackletter so trying to figure out if the marks form words or if they are more aesthetics in nature (ie. marks without literal meanaings)
