I use a slope meter and try to get all my roads to 4 percent. I find it interesting to see how other guys do the job. I always keep one of my front wheels on the crown in the centre of the road and it works very well. One thing I use is hydraulic lift packers on the back of my cat 160, makes a helluva difference when you have a bit of moisture in the material.
They work fine if all you have is white rock. Most of our district is very rocky or creek gravel, so it wouldn't be so great for us. But I see alot of those in Kansas and Nebraska. They work fine there where there is much finer material on the roads
That's funny. Our district has a dump truck, backhoe, grader, and brush cutter. That maintains 52 miles of dirt road and 6 miles of chip and seal. We don't have fancy things like water trucks and vibratory rollers
The reason i said it is water stop's gravel from separating all the fines leave the gravel and it becomes all loose (clear stone) and will not compact. water helps it to compact and holds it together . I did this work for 40yrs and if you are doing the job right then it should be watered and rolled . Then you don't have to maintain it as often! Also it ends up being safer than loose gravel !
Looks nice.. I have been operating graders in the mines for 17 yrs.. I am doing my first road construction job ..

We have an rv leval stuck to the windshield. It works pretty well
I use crown on the same way in the middle if it's possible ,but mostly it isn't possible when u work in tight streets
Ed how often do u change bottom plates on your blade?
At 1:11 geez, I wish I could get my lawn to look that good !
Good job 👍
Can you tell me
Road crowning is done by which machine?
Please tell me the name of crowning machine or equipment name
You crown the road with a Road grader. This one is a Caterpillar 140H which has a 14' blade.
What do you think about a land plane/ land leveler pulled behind a tractor for a job like this instead of the motor grader?

in no way is that 6% maybe 2%
Buen maquista de motoniveladora , me gusta ver un operador que sabe trabajar .
Good work your country
don't get the last pass, he could have crowned it in two
Getting rid of the windrow and putting more material into the crown
Not very long of a video 🤔🤔

you don't hàve to learn civil engineering for you to construct a road
That's right. No need for expensive college. The old guys teach the younger guys how to do it. You get more practical and usable knowledge that way.
no need to crown the road unlless you have too mutch material.
Crowning the road prevents potholes because it forces the water to run off instead of ponding. Ponding leads to potholes.
Only time not to crown is if you don't like the people on that road. Always crown unless there is no ditch then out slope for drainage.
Very nice looking. Good operator.
Only place you don't crown is curves, approching intersections or RR crossings
Crowning is standard requirements
