Great video. I use this recipe, except I cut my bread into smaller pieces. I can get 6 rolls from 3 1/2 cups of flour. I also use a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to bake it, which eliminates the need to oil the pan. I find that when the loaves do not touch they resemble the ones sold at Haitian bakeries in Miami and NYC. Firm crust and a soft, but dense crumb. Thanks for sharing.
@bballboizzz12345 I think the suggestion was mostly to prevent nail polish from ending up in the dough. With other types of cooking, it probably wouldn't be an issue, but when kneading, there is a bigger chance the polish might flake off.
Hi. Is this the same bread as pain gros neg? I just made some pain gros neg yesterday and I swear the recipe and method was identical! The only difference was the recipe I followed included scoring the bread with knife. One love.
I'm so Happy you did this post, I've tried pain twice, the first time horrible, second try a little better, now I'm looking for a positive outcome on the third try.
Why did you knead the dough knowing you have nail polish on? I'm not sure if anyone noticed this. When you do your food handlers class, that nail polish will not be allowed because that can poison someone. Bread looks nice though
Stephanne Normil you can use a mixer that has a dough hook but to me it is better to do it by hand. I have found that by doing it by hand the yeast blends in better than when I used my mixer. I’m not Haitian but I am from the Caribbean and I love their bread. It is so easy to make.
Cynthia Francois in general Lard can be substituted for butter but you will not get the same flavour. Yes you will have to dissolve the yeast in warm water.
My ClassyKitchen If I have to give you the Idea you would have to name it After me. My secret name ITOTOO. And also you would've been the first haitienne to make it after a new haitians style. Yes or no
My parents are from haiti, and although I don't know too much about it the story behind the bread (besides being absolutely DELICIOUS and FLUFFY), this is just my educated guess: The french were using slaves on the caribbean islands for sugar, and with time, they had begunt o adopt certain aspects of life (i.e. haitian creole is composed of a lot of french), including food. My guess is that haitian pain (directly translates to bread) was one of the things adopted from the french, probably a different form of the baguette, given its shape and size.
@@Kim-bs6hm remember in Africa its Ghana bread, Jamaican its Jamaican or coco bread all three have same consistency but taste differently i did a small taste test with people from Africa and Jamaica they seem to like the Haitian one better , and they all use yeast, back home instead of butter we use lard or shortening.

I'm sorry this is 2018 we have something that is called the mixer!!!! You would have been fenish & w/o the flour sticking to your hands!!!!!! Excuse me your absolutely right it's better doing it the old fashioned way. I should know better I'm Haitian !!! 😂😂😂😂 love the video. I seen Island vibe doing it the same way meaning it's better the old fashioned way!!!!

Can I use an electric mixer?

georgeous
Pochette Cherline thank you:)
Can I substitute the butter for lard... And activate the yeast in the warm water first. I don't have any activated yeast

My ClassyKitchen hello can you get your hands in a breadfruit.

What is the cultural hearth of Haitian pain? They did not historically have wheat in Haiti to make bread, so what did they use?
Sorry I don't have the answer to your question.

Kim, that's a pretty good guess.
