- Sky News host Rowan Dean says Sweden’s crime crisis with immigrants is due to their “failure to assimilate”.
Mr Dean discussed the mass migration crisis in Sweden and its connection to the gang-related violence that has been occurring in the nation.
“There certainly is a lesson here,” Mr Dean told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“Back in those glory days, back in 1974, ABBA came to prominence at the Eurovision song contest with Waterloo, that was their first hit.
“It’s kind of ironic because once Europe threw open its arms under Angela Merkel to illegal immigrants from around the world, asylum seekers from around the world, Sweden certainly has gone on to meet its own Waterloo.”
Why is it *always* the host country that is blamed? Why is it *never* the immigrants being blamed for their own behaviour?

I am from Poland. 30 years ago my neighbour went to Sweden and when he came back he told us a shocking story - the country was so safe that people didn't even lock their houses when they left for work - simply because noone would enter. People didn't tie up their bicycles etc. So yes to us that was shocking. What happened to that Sweden? 😢

Sweden, like a lot of EU countries and the UK need to start mass deportation and much stricter entry requirements imo. They MUST also stop appeasement of certain groups who expect and demand special treatment, lest they get "offended" . If laws and practices in the country that takes you in offend you, then leave.

We are starting to do this, in a pretty fast pace, but Im not sure how easy it will be.
But essentially all crimes by foreign citizens should lead to deportation, deportation needs to be followed up much better, in addition to this we need to be better at motivate people to move back, make it much harder to get citizenship, to make "good behaviour" a critera for visum, to negotiate with all countries to make deportation easier, etc. For instance we just reached an agreement with Iraq, who refused to accept deportations until now.
These people were not forced to come to Sweden and are not forbidden to leave if they do not like it. Since they are there by their own wish in someone else`s country the least they can do is obey the law and be grateful for the shelter . In the 70s Sweden was probably the most admired country in Europe with its Viking people and wonderful way of life that many admired, it has now been ruined my multiculturalism with people from a third World culture that don’t want to integrate who live in no go ghettos, where violent crime and drug gangs are rife.

I'm live in Sweden. I believe that the biggest flaw with the migration system was that no background checks were made, meaning that people could lie about their age and criminal history and get citizenship. The Swedish population did not find out about this until recently, and thought they were helping war refugees.

I don't live in Sweden and the country has been a running joke for over a decade now online for what it was doing to itself, not that many of the Westerners laughing were doing much better, I find it hard to believe plenty of people didn't know exactly what was going on. Most of them probably didn't want to say anything because it's a forbidden topic in the west and bringing it up risks making you a social pariah or worse.

Unfortunately, Canada is well down the same path bringing in huge numbers of immigrants with no place to put them. Overflowing emergency rooms, overcrowded schools and a full blown housing crisis, yet no politician has the guts to address it directly. To do so risks being labeled a racist. Swede here; the problems mostly began after 2014-2015 or so when we suddenly had a MASSIVE influx of uncontrolled and unchecked people from Syria/Afghan/North Africa who do not have traditional western democratic values. It tipped the scale towards crime and unbalanced uses of our healthcare/school-systems. My own home town was not the same afterwards, and it breaks my heart to see what has happened to Sweden since then.
Can it be fixed? Yes, but with much harsher handling than currently, and like some other people have said; forced deportations of people who should not be here (only here for crime and freeloading of social-systems).
We've had enough! But it can be fixed. It will take time though.

The United States offered refuge to over a million South Vietnamese in the 1970s and we barely heard a peep out of them.
First of all, in 2015 *alone* Sweden offered refugees to 160 000 people, mainly from Syria. Adjusted for size, this would be 5,2 millions for USA. And this was *one* year.
In addition to this, it was people from MENA. People from countries with clan structures, and primarily muslims.

Without any acknowledgement of our (Netherlands) government, we see the same problems arising here. Youngsters of a mainly immigrant background form gangs and commit crimes of all sorts, from shoplifting to theft to plain knifing somebody and the latest to set off bombs. Even when they are still in (primary) school the youngsters are invited (or pressed) to become a member of a gang by showing their ability to commit these crimes.
Before long we will be following Sweden's example.
Those are actually problems we dont see a lot in Sweden (widespread shoplifting and/or knife attacks). I think people simplify it when they assume Sweden is the country with worst problems, because of the extreme violence here.
From what I understand, organized crime is far more established in NL, since Rotterdam (along with Antwerp) has been the major port for drug trade in Europe. Whats changed in Sweden is that the organized crime has established direct contact with mexican cartels, which have overflooded the market with money. And without an established order, with so much money involved things are just out of controll.
The real issue for Sweden and NL isnt the outright violence, it is the clans (which almost always is the core of organized crime) which are infiltrating public institutions. These people work internationally, and has to be dealt with internationally.

The thing is, if you're a forward-thinking, progressive country like Sweden but allow your nation to be overrun with people who have at the very least, questionable morals and pretty poor standards then you're only asking for trouble. Most of these people are grifters who abuse the welcome and generosity they've been shown and have zero interest in integrating in any meaningful way. As we see in the UK, the same thing is happening here and it's all going to end in tears.
Immigration systems should be reformed to FORCE integration to a certain extent. There should be cut-off dates for specific markers like learn the language, find employment, create or join a local social network, etc. Immigrants should be given support to help reach these goals in a reasonable period of time and if they don't, their status should be revoked and they should be deported. If YOU want to move to another country, YOU've got to make an effort to fit in and build a life. If you don't, you've got to go. There is no point in leaving your home country if you just want to recreate it somewhere else!
Well said. We here in the U.S. have the luxury of making true statements like this, but in many "woke" European cultures, I suspect, you'd be shut down for making a declaration such as this. It all boils down to self suicide of their culture (bythe elites), don't you think? That, combined with a heavy burden of "white guiilt". Europe (except maybe UK) isnt especially "woke", its a pretty american phenomenom.
The idea of white guilt is essentially non existant, even in Sweden. Its more of a universal idea that the state is responsible to make sure everyone, regardless of background, succeeds in life, and that any failure is the failure of the state.
So more of a wellfare state ideology than a woke ideology.

It breaks my heart I am 40 years old and in only 30 years politicians and virtue signaling people have ruined our country. When I was a kid I lived in a suburb that had basically no crimes and where predominantly Ethnic Swedes. We had a few immigrant and there where no issues at all. Now when I visit my mother that is sort on the only Swede that hasn’t moved away I see no Swede at all all the stores are in other languages and It feels like I am going abroad. Sadly this has creeped up more and more and we are now having 30% immigrant population with a high birthrate. So now you see muslim etc immigrants everywhere. Most of the immigrants that comes now don’t want to assimilate at all they come from cultures that don’t share our values or morals (they hate us even) and are sort of the opposite of our way of living plus they don’t want or can even work in a modern society (never learned to read or write) so that leaves the Swedes that are slowly dying out (poor birth rates) to basically carry them and pay out free healthcare, free housing, free child care. The system is basically made to break. Plus the sadest part our country will be ruined and made in to a new muslim country and the ethnic Swedes that are left have no where to go the only country or place in the whole world was Sweden and now it will probably turn into the nr 48 muslim country… My ancestors would turn in their graves for this both Vikings (probably more farmers and hunters but people know the the world vikings more) and Sami people…

Not everyone wants to assimilate.... and it is almost impossible to assimilate people when the volume of migrants reach a certain volume.... but that was a taboo topic for 25 years. Even if migration gets reduced now, crime will get worse for many years as a consequence or earlier migration.

Sweden should have learnt from Denmark 10 or 15 years ago. I dont know about this specific situation, but already Norway and Finland are seeing swedish organized crime establishing themselves there.

In the UK it is so bad that hospitals and doctors etc provide interpreters and signs to cater for people who had lived here for generations. They are allowed to live different lives and obey different laws, many examples of this, we have to accept this apparently.
I dont think its generations (so far), but its a problem in Sweden too. People have lived here for 10 years and not learned swedish. The good thing about all this violence is that change will happend fast, much stricter enforcment on learning swedish will be one of those things.
For instance, if you are unemployed and want wellfare checks, you will need to take language lessons for 2 hours every day until you master it.

They can, easily. Just not everybody. Political refugees from Iran are doing great in Sweden. It is because they are primarily middle class and from a culture that values education.
But the migrants who came when we had labour shortage in our industry do great aswell, so do chileans who fled Pinochet, people from former Jugoslavia who fled that war, including muslim bosnians, and the ukrainians are already adjusting.

This isnt any failure from Sweden to integrate. This is the result of the migration of huge numbers of poorly educated people from countries from a region where clan structures are common, and where Islam is the dominating religion. My last trip to Sweden was in 2007, I started to see many people mostly from Iran and Iraq. As an Asian, I was nervous when taking subway/train that passed these communities as there were many drunk teenagers sharing the same car. It seems situation is worsening unfortunate situation for such a peaceful country like Sweden.
I visited Stockholm in 2020 and I saw many asians in the subway. I was very worried about the covid virus...

Yes, I lived in Sweden for a while. I am myself European. They don't assimilate non-european immigrants and are extremely racist and even confrontational. It's shocking. They blame immigrants for all of Sweden's failures, it's absolutely absurd. I left as soon as I could.
