    I was asked about the best knot to tie boots. My "go to" knot has always been the double knot using a reef knot. That is until my favorite pair of shoes still wouldn't stay tied. So, I created this little piece of shoelace hardware. First it was out of leather, then polycarbonate. It worked great, so I'd like to get them made professionally. If you would like a set yourself, check out the link above. Thanks

    As a marathon runner, I learned this trick with the topmost-setback-eyelets that you make a loop and then pull the tails back through and do your normal shoelace knot... it keeps your heel back in the shoe and takes some of the forces off if the knot like this device

    I've used the Berluti Knot for years with dress shoes, combat boots, atheletic shoes, etc. It's never come untied accidentally. When I want to untie it, it's as easy to untie as a regular bow knot. Even operating in dense undergrowth and crawling through brush, this knot hasnt failed me.
    The downside is, while it's not a hard knot to tie, it can be a little bit cumbersome until youve dine it a few times.

    That's... Revolutionary. Very cool! That would help so many kids with their shoes. Adults would use them for sure, I'm just saying, that would make a lot of kids happy. Especially with different colors, materials, etc...

      Here's a better idea: teach kids how to tie shoes.

    Often the laces that come with shoes aren't great. Nowadays I just swap them out immediately with laces from my preferred brand, which stay tied.

    Laces work better if you have a lot of pressure to hold the knot together. Your solution should make it possible to keep your laces tied without having the laces tight.

    i don't personally see the need for these, but if you made them in colors that people can use to accesorize their stuff, or out of titanium(people LOVE titanium) they may be a hit

    Lots of effing kids aren't even learning to tie shoes these days, I see it all the time. In too big of a hurry for anything but a slip on, so they stomp the back of the shoe down. Can't read an analog clock either. If a grown adult can't tie a shoe so it stays tied 99% of the time, they don't deserve a leather doohickey.

    I don't understand why people seem to have so much trouble with their shoe laces. If you have the mobility to touch your toes and the mental acuity of a five-year-old (in order to learn how to tie a proper knot) I simply don't see why anyone would need anything other than the standard and time tested slipped square knot. 🤷‍♂
    I love your videos, your ingenuity, your understanding of knots, and the fact that you can put your knowledge on the subject to practical use but this seems incredibly silly.

    • @trelligan42
      @trelligan42 5 днів тому

      Depends on the lace material. Some synthetic fibers are really slippery, and perhaps some people put more pressure on their laces.

    • @StoneE4
      @StoneE4 5 днів тому

      @@trelligan42 No it doesn't. A properly tied, slipped square knot will hold no matter what the shoelace material is. This is not an issue of material, it's a problem with people not tying a slipped square knot correctly or tying their shoes so loose that the knot has nothing to hold against and flops around as they walk eventually untying the knot.

      not much point. rigging plates already exist, and if somebody had to work around the patent they could just alter the geometry a little and still get the same effect. also, patents take time and money and then must be defended which requires a lot of money. patents are pointless for most things.

    Elastic laces only need to be tied once. Then there's clogs. Add up all the time you spend tying your shoes over a lifetime...
    Great video as always.

      I dont know if my shoes laces are elastic, I think not. Usually I buy shoes, tie them once and that's it. They become untied maybe 2 times a year? Weird.. never had this problem in many years.

    Wth? You should know the knot "double tie" . Add a turn in the half hitch, then repeat that on the lace.

    Try Parisian, Berluti, Swedish knot or surgeon's knot. All are variations with different difficulties that add more friction. I do the surgeon's aka sherpa knot because it’s the easiest and fastest for me to tie.

      Bad laces can come undone even when tied correctly. But I think the better solution to that is to replace them with good laces.

    • @puffinjuice

    • @sinisterthoughts2896
      @sinisterthoughts2896 6 днів тому +3

      he just posted a video. but a patent would be a waste of time and money. the tech is pre-existing, and a workaround could easily be achieved by changing the geometry.

    This is a bad idea with poor understanding of foot care.
    Stop inventing random plastic crap that already exists so you can make a idotic video about it.
    Imagine with every step your shoelaces loosen just a bit.
    Real companies with real inventors already have ratcheting steel cables that replace the laces as well as grabbable hinges, all of which is based on BASIC MATERIAL SCIENCE and not random youtuber 3d printing "let me sell you a hobby" bollocks.

      You're talking to the knot-master. He's a guy who constantly provides free, highly technical training around one of the most fundamental tools available to humans. And, yes, he's also an experimentalist with a decent machine shop. Let him cook.
