Yes, Have been there before. Go take yourselves a Themal Hotpool at De Bretts Hotel Pools out on the Napier -Taupo Road, about 3 kms from the lake edge.
Go watch the Aratiatia Rapids when they open the floodgates on the Waikato River. Get yourselves some Fresh Honey from the Honey Hive on the opposite side of the road to Craters of the Moon.

There is really cool hot springs half way between Rotorua and Taupo. Its called Waikete Hot Pools. Definitely worth going to.

And another great experience for the two of you. Very interesting go-thermal walk and love the DC-3 aircraft converted to a McDonalds, although it's last flight was actually Oct 29th 1984, the date you looked at was the last flight with a defunct airline called South Pacific of New Zealand. Still wondering why the writing on your hands lol. Take care and look forward to the next one.
