      Excuse me. When have humans ever destroyed themselves? The answer is we haven’t. In our nature? No. In our nature to fight ourselves for supremacy, sure; what species doesn’t though?
      What development would we have without war? We wouldn’t. If we never fought eachother we would still be eating berries and living in mud huts.

    I served 6 years, USN as an MT (Missile Technician, C3 Poseidon missile system) aboard boomers in the mid 80’s. We were responsible for every system (from flight control equipment, hydraulics, heating/cooling systems, every aspect from loading to close out) and I remember every time we drilled for launch how much weight everyone carried knowing what it meant if it were an actual launch. Knowing exactly what would come after, and knowing what the world would be like if we were to actually make it home. We all knew from extensive training exactly what these weapons would do, exactly how it performed when deployed from launch to detonation and the result, and I promise you it’s scarier than what you could possibly imagine. I also know that it’s a necessary weapon and I pray deterrence will still be enough to prevent an attack on US soil. You cannot put this genie back in the bottle. Contrary to movies and what most believe, there is no detonation button to blow it up in space. When it launches it will reach its targets with precision, and it will destroy everything in it path and would only take our sailors minutes to launch every one of them. Let’s pray we never have to. There’s no do overs.

The goal is to get an enemy to target the I icbm locations while still allowing many of our most valuable nuclear weapons free for the secondary attack or response attack. Professor Albert Einstein was asked by friends at a recent dinner party what new weapons might be employed in World War III. Appalled at the implications, he shook his head.
      After several minutes of meditation, he said. "I don't know what weapons might be used in World War III. But there isn't any doubt what weapons will be used in World War IV."

Russia would require more than two pulse bombs, being an enormous land mass. China probably would be cooked with just two.

    I remember practicing drills when I was a kid in school in the event of a nuclear/other attack from a foreign adversary. Looking back, it was kind of a joke... like pretending you're not going to be affected by it as long as you either duck under your desk, or get marched down to the bomb shelter. It used to upset a lot of kids, that unknowing feeling, because it was a regular topic of conversation for everyone. And it should upset people... still today.
    There's no running and hiding from such attacks and surviving. If you're in a designated location by the enemy... just kiss and say "goodbye". I hate war with a passion, and I'm a proud veteran. The possibility of countries throwing tantrums and murdering one another aren't that unrealistic today. Not now.

      You're missing the point. People think it doesn't, but duck and cover actually works and yes you SHOULD be prepared to duck even under a desk. What you're missing here is that of course it doesn't work at ground zero, obviously there's nothing you can do at ground zero. But what if you're 10 miles away? Then hiding behind a desk can save your life. Go look up stock photos of Hiroshima victims. There was a woman whose floral pattern dress was burned into her skin. The places where the cloth was thicker, protected her skin, and where it was thinner, she got burned, essentially leaving her with a tattoo of the pattern of her dress. If 1 mm vs 2 mm thick cloth can make the difference between being burned and not being burned, you better believe hiding under a desk can save you.... IF you're at the right distance.

    • @beenaplumber8379
      @beenaplumber8379 2 роки тому +9

      I'm glad you made it home after 2 tours. A lot of Marines didn't, and we didn't make it easy for those of you who did. Anyway, I think that statement was in 1983. That was Reagan's Cold War crazy year ("We begin bombing in five minutes," "Evil empire," Pershing II's and cruise missiles in West Germany, Abel Archer, SDI, rhetoric around KAL-007 - I know I'm forgetting a few items...).
      That was my senior year in high school (83-84). Reagan had the world rattled into quite a state - we didn't do duck & cover drills, but all students had to go through a curriculum covering what an expected nuclear exchange would look like, how our town would be affected, how many evacuees from the cities would likely descend upon our small town (>100k), and how many sick , injured, and dying would likely show up at our 20-bed hospital (>50k), etc.
      Reagan became a lot less hawkish and crazy with our nukes from 1984 on. Part of that was a private screening he had in the White House of The Day After. He wrote about it in his diary (now public), saying he had no idea what nuclear war actually meant - words to that effect. The next year, for the first time, he personally spoke with the Soviet premier, Constantine Chernenko, by phone. Of course Chernenko died right away, but he was replaced by Gorbachev, and I think we all remember how he and Reagan became friends, and even partners in disarmament. I learned very recently exactly how drastically they cut the arsenals of both countries - nearly 90% by the time the treaties were in full force. We've been rebuilding our stockpiles slowly ever since, but as a lifelong Democrat, I can think of no one in our government who has done more to reduce our nuclear stockpiles and to make nuclear war less likely than Ronald Reagan - AFTER 1983. I REALLY did not like him as president, but I have to give him credit for this one, extremely important achievement of his.

    Very interesting. In the late 70's I was stationed at a SAC base in northern Maine (Loring AFB). According to Wikipedia, Loring had the largest stockpile of nukes in the continental US. We had nine B-52's on 24 hour alert. They were loaded to the max with fuel and nukes. To reach the USSR, the bombers would essentially fly over the north pole. From the US it was the shortest route. For this reason, we were told that Loring was the 2nd highest priority for attack if a nuclear war broke out between the US and the USSR. Of course, Washington DC was priority one.

    I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming next to FE Warren Air Force Base in the heart of ICBM country. Visitors can explore an exact replica of an ICBM in its silo. Strong feelings of bellicose patriotism, immediately gave way to fear and dread when I touched the replica warhead. Looking down into the silo is equally terrifying. It’s about 60 ft/18m tall. Roughly the length of a common tractor trailer (lori). I imagined the screaming raw power of the fuel burning as I looked into the maw of the bell housing after taking the stairs to see the engines, Not gonna lie, It made me feel a little dizzy. Next stop, an exact replica of a command center. There’s not really a big red button, the launch sequence involves the president and is fairly complicated. In the end it takes two soldiers to turn two keys simultaneously. We actually got to turn the replica keys. That actually made my stomach turn a little bit. I now have a deeper understanding and respect for the term dead dead!

      I think the Country to counterattack would go big. REAL BIG knowing that a response would be even bigger if not. So Its my guess that the first to send the first nuke would be the one to lose the most. I also see the US as the second person to strike with nukes. Everyone losses of course but the first to Strike would be the biggest loser in this situation.

    What's always missing from these types of videos is the all important political goals of each side. No one wants nuclear war, which is why we haven't had one in 70 years. The primary goal would be to limit the damage done to one's side. Other political goals would be relevant and deserve analysis. But the reason for targeting cities for example would be to dissuade the other side from hitting your cities. Theoretically this should be quite possible. Theoretically it should be possible to keep a war limited, if each side could keep control of their forces. But of course, things don't always go according to plan, especially in war.

    • @tbarrelier
      @tbarrelier 2 роки тому

      Limited nuclear war is a fiction. If the 10 most populous cities in the US were nuked, and nothing else, the USA would still be FATALLY destroyed. Think about it. No power grid, no water supply, no distribution of food, etc. 90% of the population would be dead within a year.

      And I also believe the idea of mutually assured destruction is a bit of a paradox because if someone was to use nuclear weapons against another, those individuals would still be considering that concept and how their retaliatory actions could further escalate towards the destruction of everything. It’s not assured that the response to a nuclear attack will be a nuclear attack because the paradigm that has prevented nuclear exchanges is still in effect.
