You are right. Although they are guppies and I had quite a few they are all gone. Next batch will be ready in a month. Actually most of the fish are gone. Next breeding project I will start soon are Pseudomugil luminatus and furcatus. Amazing fish.
Funny you should mention the parents giving birth to a "million" fry. The old dutch name for Guppy is "Miljoenenvisje", which means small fish, of which there are millions. I've had my share of Guppy's and other life-bearers in the past. At some point, inbreeding became a major issue, with them having all kinds of colours and deformities, which did not add to the enjoyment. Nowadays, I have 4 Guppy males to give the Ember tetras and Pygmy Corydoras a slightly safer feeling, and I leave the (uncontrolled) breeding to the pros. I'm liking the look of the algae covered stones and the flower pods on the Buces.
I think that they are also called "million fish" in English. Regarding inbreeding I am being very careful to separate fry from the parents and later on males from females. I still have original breeding pair that is more than 1.5 year old. I will have to select soon 2nd generation breeders but so far I am happy. I will assume I got anywhere from 300-400 fry from 1st generation and only 1 fish had bent spine. Of course what I am doing now is not possible to do in a home aquarium setup (community tank) and sooner or later there will be deformities.
