As a LFC fan, i think we have to cover more ground in December, need to keep the chasing pack at arm's length. The next two fixtures against Arsenal and United are a must win so that we can have a breather during the latter stages of the season. With Salah gone for AFCON, if Jota doesn't come back from injury, i'd be worried.
We're in a false position. When was the last good performance let alone very good performance? The thing we've always had under Klopp though is winning when playing poorly/average. The mentality is there but Liverpool need to start playing well especially away from home if the league is to be won, we won't keep getting away with these performances.

@@Luke-jx3mj EL is notorious to cause teams to have problems in the league, don't expect free flowing football with Thursday exertions and 15 midday matches. The best players can do is to grind results and it's a small miracle they are at the top.
Liverpool are better placed than last season, but they their midfield in particular is still finding its feet and they still need more players in defence and midfield to cover for injuries which they don’t have. Not being in the champions league is probably a blessings in disguise.
We're top of the league having played 9 away games to 7 home, away to City, Newcastle, Spurs, Brighton and Chelsea, happy out where we are
As a liverpool fan i think its disrespectful to leave out Villa, they are not another Leicester City, they have progressed from last season and they have a good manager. They are hungry for success and while others are looking at liverpool, arsenal and Manchester city they will continue to be under the radar. It is definitely going down to the wire this season and no matter what it will be exiting and entertaining.
I hope that liverpool can keep up their ruthlessness and win the premiership, YNWA ⚽️⚽️⚽️👍

Cheers guys, too many seem quick to dismiss Villa’s place in the table as a purple patch of form. Since Unai took over we’ve achieved over 2ppg for 38 games now.
Villa is the team I am afraid of the most. I think we have City and Arsenal covered. Both are under pressure and dropping points. Luton could have easily drawn with both of them which would have been extremely fair considering how we faired against Luton.
@@MrTim207 Agreed Villa are different gravy under Emery but I do have to say that they've managed to keep up their amazing run free of pressure; they don't have title-winning experience in the tough, rough business end of the season where they will have to show their consistency when the pressure is on, something which City and Liverpool have proven to thrive in. Not saying it's out of villa's reach, but to assume things about villa already is equally as questionable as leaving them out.

As a Villa fan, I think Liverpool will take it this year. I will be happy if we get top 4, it will be a huge achievement.
As a Brighton fan I reckon villa will get top 4 they smoked us. I can genuinely see them sticking top 3 and challenging won’t be easy though couple loses in a row you can drop quickly Villa look very good atm though.

I don't like the Villa Leicester comparison, Leicester were relegation candidates when they won the league & narrowly escaped relegation the season before, and weren't even in the PL the season before that. Villa have been very strong since Emery joined, they were in the top 4 race last season towards the end & people have tipped them for top 5 this season before it even began. It would be an amazing achievement if Villa won the league & surprising for many, but it's not comparable to how Leicester shocked the nation, people forget too easily.
Leicester was more shocking yes, but Villa are also juggling a draining European campaign - 7 European games already played.
Whereas Leicester went out 2 domestic cups early and did great for 38 league games.

I think the villa - Leicester comparison holds, just with the wrong Leicester team. the form of the Leicester teams from 19-20 and 20-21 who both bottled top 4 on the last game are much more similar to villa right now.
Liverpool are usually behind city at this point I think, and given their tendency to end the season very strongly, I think they have a real shout again this year
We're loosing Salah in January, need a better defensive midfielder than Endo. Alison needs to be his brilliant best had a few brain farts this season and we need a center half.

The disrespect shown to Villa is shocking. Yes they probably won’t win the league but they are definitely in the title race at the moment and if they can improve there away form then who knows.

As a Liverpool fan if we win it, it would be a bit of a miracle tbh. We need a strong DM and another good CB (as Matip is out for most of the season) in January for us to be strong enough to win it imo. Salah will also be gone for 4 weeks because of AFCON.

I have a suspicion Liverpool will win it this season.
They have regained that monster mentality and are in the habit of winning ugly. The fact they are in the 'weaker' European competition as opposed to City and Arsenal could also work to their advantage.
While Villa doing a Leicester 2.0 would be an amazing story it is still a long shot in my opinion, mainly due to the lack of overall squad depth compared to the other three teams. However, top four is certainly very realistic.

Depends if we get lucky with injuries thats what scares me now atm we have Robertson,Thiago,Jota,Matip,Bajcetic injured Matip is out for the season so Konate being fit will be so key to our season obviously Van dijk is key too but not as worried about him as he never gets injured.We have Gomez and Quansah too but don't rate them as good as Konate and Matip. Hopefully Liverpool buy a cb or cdm in Jan transfer market but I have doubts if they will

Spurs too are still nowhere near as good as they will be come jan/feb too you gotta keep in mind. Postecoglu teams take nearly a whole year to learn the system and theyre already occasionally playing stunningly beautiful football, with their best players out injured.

For sure it will be Arsenal, man city and Liverpool but again, the title race actually start begin at round 30. I think 4th spot is between you and us (Villa and Spurs). We're so much better than the rest of the teams below us. You guys have taken some massive scalps too and that will play a part come the end of the season. Might depend how far you go in Europe. Very impressive though.
I'm an Arsenal fan, and we play Liverpool 3 times in 7 games between 23rd December and 3rd February. Two of those games are at the Emirates (FA Cup and Prem). That is a crucial run for both clubs if they want to win the league.
Where we lost the league last season was losing to our closest contenders twice - Man City at home and away. If we had won just one of those games we win the league. It’s great we beat City at home but a win at Anfield away would be absolutely massive for us in the title race.
Honestly I say if we lose and Anfield throw the FA to them don’t show much but give players a little mess around and a little rest throw some curve balls and try some things then go full on in Feb

They're not the first team to have a good first half of the season with an impressive home record - let's see how they go in the second half when they have to play teams like City & Arsenal away before we start crowning them champions.
Arsenal last season & Chelsea the year before both had very good starts to the season, right up at the top of the league in January, then fell away / couldn't keep the pace up.

For league chances, I think any of the top 4. Spurs could’ve potentially competed for longer if they didn’t have as many injuries but I don’t think they’d have won regardless. So:

4th: Spurs

As a Liverpool fan we haven’t been playing like title contenders and we sit top of the league, we need to click into gear and step it up 2nd half because City in particular will ramp it up and we can’t afford to not improve

Klopp said it'd be foolish to write City off for the title and I believe they're still favourites.
I didn't have us (Liverpool) finishing in the top 4 before the season kicked off, and that was due to the uncertainty with signings. We are however winning games and top of the league without getting out of 2nd gear. Klopp is not certain on his best midfield as yet and we've the very talented Bajectic to return.
I'm not sold on Nunez. He's not consistent enough for me with his goals unless we look at him from a more than just goals perspective.
My nearly mid season top 4 prediction is as follows:

Villa fan here and all I am praying for is a top 6 finish and that Europa Conference title. Won't get ahead of myself. Some fans get a bit excited but this is new territory for some of our younger fans. I've lived through O'Neil and witnessed the disappointment at not making top 4 despite being convinced we were destined for it. He messed that up a few times.

Jamie Rednap doesn't like to hear Villa are candidates. He says clubs are taking points off each other, but the real story is that it is Villa that has taken points off the 2 favourites to allow Liverpool to go top. When it was suggested by the other pundit that he thinks Villa are in the conversation, Rednap interjected 'Do you think Villa could win it?' Then hijacked it to tell us how wonderful Liverpool is. Where is the impartial punditary from Sky TV?

We aren't title contenders even top 4 is optimistic. I'd be happy with a top 6 finish. I expect Spurs, Newcastle and even United to improve as the season goes on and their injured players return. We dont have the squad depth to compete with these teams. But loving the ride so far. UTV
As a united fan, you have bigger hopes for the club than most others I've seen lol. I was under the impression Villa had injuries at the start of the season but they had already gotten new people in like Diaby
personally, i saw five subs come off the bench on Saturday with no appreciable drop of in quality of play. so i'd say our squad depth is pretty good. you don't hear us blaming our defeat on the absence of one player (Rodri at City, for example).
I don’t think top four is overly optimistic. Our next four fixtures through to the end of the year are generous enough to the point where we’d probably be favoured to win all of them, putting us on 47 points.
The other teams that are competing for top four (Tottenham, Man U, etc.) all seem to be tripping over each other right now and are dealing with far more injury problems. I could legit see them stumbling enough for Everton to climb to 5th without the point deduction by the end of the year (theoretically on 35 points). That’s a massive lead for us.
We’re currently in a title race, albeit one that even I don’t see us winning, but if we are consistently good enough in the fairly generous spell of fixtures we have up until about March, I think we could easily secure top four at this rate.
@feral_orc Mings, Buendia, Moreno and Ramsey were all out at the start of the season, and they were all crucial first team players last season. We've been very fortunate that the signings we've made have all stepped up and adapted so well.
@petercollins5861 you're right we do have a good bench especially now Moreno and JJ are back, I'm not entirely sold on the likes of Zaniolo or Dendoncker though so I still think we need to strengthen areas in January.
Think Villa will get Top 4, but you have to consider them in the title race until they are not, none of Pep, Arteta or Klopp will be ruling them out yet. They have a great manager (who might not be respected in England but he's got the achievements abroad).
He is definitely a great manager, and Villa are his level. He did poorly at PSG and Arsenal, so it would appear that his strength is turning mid-table teams into top 4 teams, but struggles at turning top 4 teams into champions. Part of that comes down to his approach of countering other teams. He's extremely good at countering a top team's strengths, which is why his teams are always giant killers. That approach doesn't work when you're the top team. I remember when he was at Arsenal, and he'd be tweaking our approach to beat Bournemouth. I'm sorry, but that's not how top teams win. Top teams play their game and put the onus on the weaker team to try to deal with them.
And you've seen this with AVL this season. You've now beaten Arsenal, City, Totenham, Brifgton, and Chelsea, but dropped points to BOU, lost to NFO, and got knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Everton. Emery needs to have 2 approaches: the style you use to beat weaker teams, and a custom game plans against stronger teams. Creating custom game plans against weaker opposition sees him drop points on the regular to weaker teams.

As a Utd fan I think City, Liverpool and Arsenal are in the race. I would like to see Arsenal win it. Also be nice if Villa got into the top 4.

Disregarding Villa is the biggest mistake in English football. They’ve beaten the 2 biggest teams this season so far in one week. And emery is a phenomenal manager, he will improve in the January transfer and who knows

They can definitely finish top 4 or even higher but I don’t think they have the capabilities of winning a league title.

Villa have no chance realistically very lucky to beat Arsenal conceded too many chances and could have easily lost 2 or 3-0 on another day. Can see them falling off slowly as their workload increases with the more games in Europe
Our workload was the reason we weren’t great against Arsenal though? 4 games in 9 days. We absolutely battered City then had Arsenal 3 days later, there was no chance we could bring the same attacking intensity

It doesn’t matter if it was only 1-0, Villa destroyed City. They had 2 shots all game, the last of them in the 11th minute. 13 shots in the first half by Villa the most Pep has faced in his 535 games managed, won the ball in the final third 13 times which is the most City have ever lost it there under Pep…genuine question, did you watch Villa City or are you just going off the scoreline? Honestly what have people watched in the prem and champions the last 5-6 year to doubt klopp???
Direct football is dominating. Teams that pass and pass and have 3/4 possession are losing. Look what Girona did to Barca yesterday. Everton have beaten Newcastle and Chelsea. Lowly teams are going to Brighton and nicking points. Luton only just lost against City. Injuries are ravaging these possession sides because they are constantly twisting, turning, stopping and starting. Knees and ankles are knackered. Liverpool don't hang around. They get the ball forward as quick as possible and Trent is spraying 40/50 yards passes around like confetti. Low blocks nullify possession teams. City won't win this year and nor will Arsenal. Big Sam must be so happy.
How people can turn around and say Villa aren’t in a title race at this point in the season is absurd!

It’s just because of their away form. Arsenal, Liverpool and City are at the top for both home and away form, whilst Villa are 9th in the table for away form. If Villa can pick up their away form then they’ll be serious title contenders, but right now it’s more likely they come 4th.

For excitement prospect, we can talk about this..but i genuinely think this is too early..im a liverpool fan..despite we r going well in november, the upcoming dec and jan will play a huge role..especially when AFCON cming for Salah to play for egypt..that would be a massive lost for LFC..the table on february will give a huge pic who is the exact candidate..
The same problem also happened for Spurs. Losing Son, who will play for Korea in Asian Cup, along with the fact Maddison is still not fit enough after injuries, will affect the club's performance by February.
My personal prediction is City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham are in for a decent run if they get the right players in January and keep their players fit. They beat City 1-0 while City were going through one of their worst spells in 4 years and very lucky to win against Arsenal. The goal they scored is getting saved by any elite keeper and they conceded 3 or 4 big chances aswell as the disallowed one at the end. That just isn't sustainable in the long run... the xG of the Arsenal game was indicative of whats to come for Villa

Then we beat high flying Arsenal 3 days after beating City, no idea how they dominated us tbh, they probably just edged it, we had some good chances in that game, even though they had one extra day of rest recovering from a team that is not as good as man city in Luton.

Raya, maybe he can be better, full backs, i dont think zinchenko or Tomiyasu can be any better than right now, Ben white can certainly play better, they dont have proper strikers since Jesus is not your 20 goal striker neither is Nketiah. Martinelli has dropped off, Odegaard's form has dropped off and finally Havertz isnt a consistent old school attacker.
To sum it up, Arsenal might not play better than what they are playing right now.
