- The Unseen - this short documentary film invites you to witness the impassioned battle to protect our most precious body of water and inspires a call to action. Explore the resilience of those who strive to hold authorities accountable, urging us all to play a role in the preservation of our natural wonders. Through breath taking footage capturing the raw beauty of Te Waikoropupū Springs and the destructive mud farming practices, this documentary serves as a rallying cry for environmental stewardship and responsibility.
This would not have been made possible without film maker Timothy Firkin and animator Grant Nicholson, the support from Kevin Moran, Save Our Springs and the many people involved in this mammoth ongoing battle.

This is a great video about the purity of Te Waikoropupū Springs and how they should be protected so they don't end up like Ellesmere as filthy water filled with nitrates! Farmers need to protect our aquifers, lakes and rivers better by reducing (ideally stopping altogether) their use of nitrates. The government needs to pass legislation to reduce/abolish use of nitrates. We need to think about the future!

Awesome Mahi from all involved! Hope this documentary helps bring attention to one of the many 'unseen' battles that kaitiaki around the country are constantly fighting for. It is our collective responsibility to protect what still remains and we need to hold those accountable who knowingly, and willingly disrespect the natural taonga's that have been gifted to all of us!

LOL a Freudian slip or maybe just a double entendre ...at the 18:42 - 45 timestamp the news-reader said "...highest level of protection from the government". That's what we all need, and especially nature...protection from the government!! Great work Geoff and co.

We just visited Te Waikoropupu a few weeks ago and it is such a special place, the clearness of the water is unbelievable. Way to use the story of this place as a guide for the larger picture in Aotearoa. Keep it up!

Congratulations people of the Nelson area! I wish someone would do this kind of testing in the Tairawhiti area . Here the amount of maize cropping & intensive horticulture is a world of over fertilizing; over spraying of agrochemicals; over tilling of soil with big tractors 24hrs/ day! ... this next to monoculture pine forests being harvested with very wasteful & destructive clear-felling ... I am sure sadly the underground water , streams & sea are horribly polluted here.
We can farm, in harmony with the nature. Likewise we can produce wood without pollution! This should be supported at all cost with education & restrictions.

Like a reduction in inputs for a start
Many things need to change@@enzed2708. On this topic of farming, that style of dairy farming is not good on many levels. Mainly on humane grounds, these poor animals are not supposed to live like that. And environmentally as this film shows quite clearly, keeping thousands of cattle on too small a space of land does not work. Even on the Serengeti where, naturally there are over a million animals in one place, they move around all the time. The land has time to recover. Farming used to be done on a rotational way, so the ground was never stressed in one direction. It has to change.

A few years ago a Māori woman took us to see the natural spring that she was born in… it had been drained and flattened years ago by the owner…

@@GeoffReidNZ I’m not familiar with the north island but it was somewhere south of Rotorua, I remember seeing a geothermal power plant on the way, and swam in a small hot spring which had a car park and wooden stairs built around it.
Can the springs be designated as a World Heritage site

True. Sadly they have failed them by letting them intensify the landscape. . . Now it's all got to change.
People have spoken. Only 12 dairy farms in the recharg zone... 12 Vs rest of NZ that want clean water.

There are MANY ways to sort this out and the government does have subsidies etc for farmers..BUT it's not the farmers that are the issue here.
More like the wish bone. We know we have to look at other option. Banks and Fert reps have locked them into debt... Not all farmers went for the $$$ at all costs.
Council that do KNOW better IN TOTAL DENIAL, what a joke, they should be ashamed, they should be leading the way. gET RID OF THE MAYORS THAT ALLOW THIS TOO HAPPEN
