FEZ is not a correct demonstration of 2d in 3d. FEZ has you in a projection of 3d to 2d, but that's not what you would experience as a 2d character in a 3d world. You would instead be in a cross-section.

The only sense we can think of is to take a "slice" of the fourth dimension which we can see in 3D. Just like You playing a 3D game and watching it on your 2D screen is a slice of a 3D world
