Hi! Just wanted to know if I can Add a column with a formula to on the Income Tab to calculate Promoted listing Fees. Probably between "Ship Coast & Profit"? If so what would the formula look like and what cells I need to add/change for all the tabs to work correctly or is this too much of a change to actually work? Thank You.
You can definitely add another column to fit whatever else you would like to track. You will need to update your profit column as well as add an identical column on your P&L worksheet and also update the Profit and Profit Margin columns on the P&L worksheet. I hope that helps.

Love the inventory to list part of the spreadsheet. Started entering details for some 1970s glassware when I came across the column for Armpit. Imagine my surprise! LOL.
Thank you! I have tried to go about preparing & setting up my ebay/reselling journey on the good foot, by gleaning everything I can from people who have done it before... then assimilating that knowledge... then tweaking it for what I want my own fledgeling store to grow into. My instinct was to establish even the first starter steps as setting myself up for a serious business, as soon as possible - and to begin with the best record keeping (and thinking) I could manage - all before selling the first item. Hi. Just starting an Ebay business and was wondering if you had an updated spreadsheet for tracking inventory and sales which accounts for sales taxes as well.
Really love your spreadsheet. It has all the features I was looking for. But I have one question: On your P+L sheet, why don't you consider the item cost when calculating profit?
You could add it if you would like. I do not so that no one confuses this with yearly cost of goods. You can only capture the cost when it is sold and there is a whole other formula for that. Personal preference.
It looks like this is setup to help you at year end for taxes. Should you not be paying quarterly taxes to the IRS? If so, does this seet calculate what you should be paying every quarter?
I created this a few years back when I only filed annually. If you are selling in large volumes though, I definitely recommend filing quarterly. You could still modify this spreadsheet though to accommodate that.
Thank you for sharing this! The profit page is not automatically calculating the next column after I enter the sale price. EX, ebay fee does not automatically calculate. What am I doing wrong?
Always been a buyer on eBay but never a seller - until this month. I'm soo glad I found this, so I can organise my sales. I am having an issue with one section though. My "ship fee" and "sell fee %" doesn't seem to automatically change when I fill in the other details,I have to do it manually. Anyone got any tips/tricks to fix this? Thanks
Thank you so much for this!! I have a question about the Expenses spreadsheet. For the "Inventory" column, is that where we would put our monthly sourcing for inventory? It's the "Purchased Inventory +" part of the equation of COGS, correct? I just want to make sure I am filling this out correctly. Thank you for any help!

I zero out the sold price and adjust the shipping based on the situation (ie did you offer free shipping- then the shipping you paid stays in place. Did they pay for the return shipping or did you? Adjust accordingly). Then copy the item and add back to your inventory list.

Personally I list it 1 time at the bottom and type in the quantity next to the words and multiply the cost times that amount. When you sell an item copy vs cut the line and manually reduce the qty and cost column each time.
Thank you for the spreadsheet! I subscribed. I'm confused about the ship fee. On my Ebay transaction details page it doesn't show a ship fee. It shows item price, ship price, total times 12.55 percent minus 30 cent final value fee. Your ship fee calculates 12.5 percent. Is that still correct?
Thanks so much for the sub 😊 You may need to adjust the percent based on the category. Also this was created over a year ago, so some of this may have changed since then.

Thanks for the spreadsheet. It’s perfect. 😀. But We are little bit confuse how to deal with file when customers they are being charged taxes. Are we adding the amount the item that was charged before taxes on the “sold” Column or with taxes? Then we add an extra Column for taxes?
Whichever way you account for the taxes just understand that eBay is paying taxes on your behalf to your state, so you never receive that money and you do not have to pay sales tax on it again at tax time.
Thank you for your reply. 😀. For my understanding by looking at our new sales report from eBay, we (sellers) have to factor in sales tax. Which is what the final value fee is based of right ?
So with that being said. Should we add the total amount of the item that was sold for with the taxes into the Column of “sold” to get an accurate profit on excel file ?
@@mymusic7544 yes to capture the correct fee, but another column needs to be added to expense the tax. I hope that makes since. (This was created prior to all the sales tax things were put into place)
First off, thanks for the video and spreadsheet! I subscribed to you just for that! And now for my question. What would happen if you got audited and used this method? Is there enough proof that you didn't just fabricate the numbers for cost/sold etc? Is there any secondary method you do in case that ever happens? I'm thinking to make a second bank account only for business transactions of buying/payouts and also saving every receipt I get. As for yard sales etc, I guess there is really no way to document that other than irs trusting you.
That’s a great question, and I would agree that a separate bank account may be the best route to go. I used to use PayPal for this purpose, however much of that has changed with eBay switching to Managed Payments. You may want to speak with an accountant as well for their guidance.
@@TipsnTales Okay thanks for the info! Yeah I'll probably end up going that route and contacting a tax expert if I need any help. Thanks again for the video, I just finished listing my 200 items on ebay to the spreadsheet haha.
Thank you for a great spreadsheet. I am just little bit confused with the column “Sold $” . This price includes also sales tax? For example I sold the item for 5$, buyer pays 5$+ tax (example 40 cents) and also he pays for shipping 3$. In the column sold$ will be 5.40 $?
I do not track tax because eBay remits this on my behalf. This is your choice if you want to track. I would advise adding another column just for taxes. Thanks for watching!
Just researching before getting started in earnest. Thank you so much for sharing such a great resource. May I ask how you record transportation costs? Is that separate? Thank you again! I sub’s robed to your page! 😊
Transportation costs would be recorded under expenses separately. I would suggest keeping a mileage log separately as well. Thanks for watching and for the sub 🤗
@@TipsnTales Thanks so much. That’s what I thought. I kept a notebook in the car when I bought and sold books. I stopped because it became so common to buy and sell books in my area. If I buy and sell-I want to branch out. Retiring from teaching in two years and I know I’ll want to do something different and fun. 😊
Thank you so much for the spreadsheet AND the tutorial! A couple of questions... your ebay fees are set at 12.5%. How do you account for categories that have different ebay percentage fees? Also, how do you keep track of mileage and home office deductions? Are those on separate sheets? TIA for ANY help you can give me,
Unfortunately over the last few years eBay no longer has the flat percentages anymore. So the only option I know is to manually change the formula for each sale 😔 I track mileage and home office expenses through Godaddy bookkeeping software. It’s about $10 per month and comes in handy for on the spot tracking. Thanks for watching 🤗
I like this spreadsheet. I will be using it this weekend and start an actual inventory. Thanks. But i have been unable to find a video about how to charge for shipping. Most times i dont get the profit i really want due to cost of shipping to me. Ex: I sell mostly bed linens and cost of a pallet maybe $200 but shipping is almost $300. Very difficult to make a good profit. Any suggestions? Bedding sells for me. I tried clothing and electronics. But very slow. Bedding moves quicker Thanks
I have a video on how to create a listing on eBay that talks about setting up shipping (around 9:45 min mark). Also have you considered selling on Poshmark? Their fees are higher but they handle all the shipping costs etc. ua-cam.com/video/m8m86FsQE7w/v-deo.html
@@TipsnTales yes. I do 3. Ebay. Mercari and poshmark. Yes poshmark is good. It's just mercari. Maybe its the ppl on there they will offer you low offers for brand new items🤔
How do you account for the different selling fees for different categories? You mention 12.5%. I sell clothing n shoes mainly but I believe that is 11.5%. Other categories have different amounts. I read a comment below which you stated to change then formulas but since they’re are varying categories (as you’re buying n selling as you go along)how do you handle that?
You may need to manually change it for the different categories you are selling in. Unfortunately it’s not as straight forward as it used to be with eBay. The other way would be a separate spreadsheet for each category but personally I think that would be worse.
Good morning. Thank you for your prompt reply. I have another question. So you said I can manually change the amount. However, you said the the fee is already formulated. My experience with Google is that if you manually enter it will override the formula. So if this is done will the next line down calculate? Also. I’m not understanding how it knows the calculation to populate if you are not telling it what platform it’s sold on. I don’t see where you assign it a specific sold platform. Thank you again.
Yes, that is what column A is for. I list the ones that haven’t sold down below all of the months. When something sells you can cut and paste it under the month it sold in.
You can, however ebay pays this on your behalf so you never receive or pay this out of your business cash flow. But if you want to account for it make sure you account for it as both income and expense. It’s also best to ask your tax advisor :)

@@TipsnTales thank you so much for the answer!
Is it possible to add the ad fee in
You will need to just add another column. Not everyone uses ads.
A question from a total newbie. Is the postage and tax you paid on the product included in your cost?
Yes. Anything you paid to obtain the item for sale should be included in the cost.
@@TipsnTales Thank you!
@Tips & Tales Thank you so much for getting back to me and for the information! Happy new year! Liz

@@TipsnTales yes. I do 3. Ebay. Mercari and poshmark. Yes poshmark is good. It's just mercari. Maybe its the ppl on there they will offer you low offers for brand new items🤔
@@TipsnTales plus all their fees + shipping adds up
How do you account for the different selling fees for different categories?
@@maroman131 I meant you would need to enter the different % manually in the formula.
How can I change my selling fee %% to 11.5%???? Not 12.5%
You would need to change this in the top formula box for that column
Thanks so much....
Glad it can be helpful!!
do you have a decription of item?
I’m not sure I understand what you are asking? I don’t record the description of the items except on the listing itself.
Is there a place on spreadsheet to type a brief description of the item your have up
Yes, that is what column A is for. I list the ones that haven’t sold down below all of the months. When something sells you can cut and paste it under the month it sold in.
This is probably a tax advisor question, but can you include sales taxes you have paid for an item you are selling?
You can, however ebay pays this on your behalf so you never receive or pay this out of your business cash flow. But if you want to account for it make sure you account for it as both income and expense. It’s also best to ask your tax advisor :)
Do we deduct the “tax collected by eBay” ?
I do not track this. eBay collects and remits this on your behalf.
How do I download it
The instructions are in the video
Hi, there is any way to change the from dolar to pound? Thnak you!
You should be able to. If you right click the box there is a format option. Then select currency and change the symbol.
@@TipsnTales i will try, thank you!
