Ah! You mention Frieda's High pitched yodel, and it is so familiar I knew exactly the thing. I have a neighbor who has a lovely schnauzer that is quite sure my dog is her best friend in the world, despite a preponderance of dogs in the neighborhood. She may catch the idea were out from 400 meters away and let loose that sorrowful sound the whole way dragging her owner till she can reach my dog.
I picked up 3 POB-used books just a few weeks ago, The Commodore, The Fortune of War, and Desolation Island. The Cottage Homes book is wonderful, I love it!
That Hammett anthology is a lot nicer than the one I have! It was a shame that the Thin Man movie used a terrier and not a schnauzer, still adorable though.

When Steve goes to the Brattle all his fans say 2 things "OMG it's Steve Donohue" followed quickly by "you really don't wear pants......."

The artwork in the _Cottage Homes_ book is right up my alley! What a find! 👏🏻
A really nice haul. The pictures in The Cottage Homes of England and Private Palaces are lovely

I don't know if you were aware, but Helen Allingham was the wife of William Allingham whose poem you read a day or two ago.
Patrick O’Brian read a long 👀 👀
It helped me, thanks ✌️
Cottage Homes of England does not appear to have a robust spine.
