FONTERUTOLI: Tuscan Family Making Wine in Italy for Over 600 Years
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This episode I speak with my friend Giovanni Mazzei, whose family have been making wine in Tuscany for centuries. When friends rent a car in Florence and want to see the beauty of the countryside of Tuscany, I often recommend they visit Fonterutoli, where the Mazzei family have their winery. They also have very romantic accommodation rooms and apartments on this property in the heart of Chianti, Tuscany.

600 years and 25 generations of wine making. I’d say it’s definitely a family business.
Yes very impressive , I also saw a video once about an Italian family that had produced church bells for over 1000 years. There must be tremendous pressure to continue, you don´t wanna be the black sheep that breaks 1000 years of family tradition.
@@larsstougaard7097 LOL! Hilarious truth! I suppose these are big families though so you'll always have someone who wants to keep running the business, and also the business is so big at this stage that if someone hates making wine and loves marketing, it's not a problem they can market the wine LOL. Families like these are also in real estate usually, tourism, you name it... they do it, lucky them!
@@penelopetoniaccini8783 I think the success of a family business has many layers, only 30 per cent of all family businesses make it to the second generation and only 3 per cent last for more than four generations or beyond. It must be a combination of family dynamics, hard work and luck. Much can happen, war, illness, financial ruin etc. The oldest family business in the world is a Japanese one - Hoshi Ryokan - a hotel which is owned and run by the same family since the year 718. It is a business which is 46 generations old! Further, out of the total 5,000 companies in the world that are more than 200 years old more than 60 per cent (approximately 3,000 companies) are in Japan. 🐼🍚🍣🍤
Fonterutoli is a splendid manor on the hills of Chiantishire in Tuscany.
A little touch of Hitory...
The Mazzei is one of the Histrorical families of Florence. A member of the family, Filippo Mazzei, although alomost unknown to the public, he is conidered as an important father of the
Declaration of the American Independece being a close friend to the first 5 Preidents of the United States - George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Jame Monroe and Thomas Jefferson.
Not bad....
Yes! Incredible history! 😊
Grazie!
I love every little detail of history like this. Thank you.
Tuscany is definitely on my bucket list.
It should be! I recommend to combine driving around and seeing the region with taking a cooking workshop. Better that just going in a sightseeng tour if you really want to experience rather than just view it, for first time visitors. ❤️
What an absolutely heavenly, beautiful region. I can't even fathom what it would be like to live there. I hope you're feeling well and everything is going along smoothly with your pregnancy. Baci, Marina
Thank you, Marina. Yes - I’m feeling fantastic! The second trimester is so much easier than the first! 🤰🏼
Wow, simply beautiful! Thank you for sharing. So wishing I was there in person.
Thank you for showing us this beautiful place. Amazingly lovely.
The cinematography!!! 🤩🤩🤩 this video I will watch it again for sure! Absolutely perfectly produced! You knew exactly how to highlight the beauty of that place! I am always so impressed with what you manage to do, putting everything so well together! I am definitely your nr 1 fan! Much love! 🤗 P.S- Tuscany I’m coming soon! 🥂
I love how you always notice the production side of things! 🙏🙏🙏
What a great childhood to grow up surrounded by nature. What a lovely video Kylie, didn’t want it to end. I would love to visit one day😍
Love, love, love it💕💕 Thank you, as always 🙏🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Fabulous. Love the history of the family and the story of the knights
Honestly, there is nothing like the Italian countryside to lift your spirits and just watching the superbly filmed (and edited!) video, it reinforced the power that Nature has to make you really feel alive and connected to everything. I love hearing about family history and I love the ethics of what Giovanni said about not owning the land but just caretaking it for future generations. It is true that it is like something out of a fairy tale and it is so rewarding to know how much this family appreciates their home. I think they made a good move coming back home. Thank you Kylie for giving us such a wonderful treat, I feel like I had a weekend away watching this!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
@@KylieFlavell I agree with one of your followers who commented on you being put forward for a YT award, if there is one. You give lots of different advice, based on your own experiences, you have an amazing way of showing how to bake/cook/present and host dinners, you design and sew your own clothes and soft furnishings and decorations and show us how to turn a tea towel into a stylish curtain! You film, and edit all your own videos and create mini masterpieces from every video (I have not seen an average one yet!) Your choice of music creates nostalgia and that makes your content so irresistible. You showcase detail on every level and it's the details, in this precious life that make their mark. You are humble and kind, loving and generous and see beauty in everything and there isn't another channel like yours that offers so much in each video! I would vote for you in a heart beat if there was an award to be had. I am so glad that you kept your dream alive in your heart, even when things went off track but you are living proof that you create your reality with what is in your heart. There is some amazing work being done researching how the heart has it's own elctromagnetic field that can be measured and it affects everything in it's sphere! The heart generates very powerful frequencies (it is a shame we are not taught this at school) and I am waiting for the time, which I believe is already is in motion, that all people will live/give from their hearts. When you give from your heart it can never go wrong! My wonderful Nonna from Friuli, passed a saying onto her daughter, my beloved mother, that "if you don't give with your heart, then it's best you don't give at all" I have always thought of you as an Earth Angel, you definitely carry a light that is bright and full of love!
@@brandon2912t I’m ‘senza parole’ - without words. Thank you so much, dear Marisa. Your grandmother sounds like a wise and wonderful woman. Sending love from my heart to yours. 🙏♥️
Another beautiful episode. I love the idea of continuity. Taking care of the family heritage with an eye to pass it on to the next generation.
Thank you for bringing such beauty to us all, Kylie.
Sitting here in the states, the history of Europe always leaves me in awe. Their cellar is gorgeous, to think they were making wine centuries before America, was America. That wisteria is amazing, any idea how old that is. Also curious if anyone took you up on the offer to run that beautiful restaurant.

Your video offers such a lovely stroll in a beautiful winery . A few years ago my husband and I spent a few weeks in Greve di Chianti and Figline Valdarno in late October, we visited many wineries and tasted delicious venison dishes with mushrooms and black truffle. I want to go back and visit again those gorgeous town markets. Grazie bella signora.
Beautifully made video!
Gonna start saving for the next year or two, I have to visit!!!
Thank you so much for sharing, Kylie! Love your channel. ❤️

When we were in Tuscany we liked a region Impruneta.
Just lovely Kylie, what a fabulous place to live in....or visit...............Donna in Toronto
Amazing story! Loved it! 😍
Great review 👏
Excellent!
Love this Video!! See you next week, Kylie! ❤❤❤
The tree with the purple blooms along the wall of the staircase looks like a petrified sculpture. Stunning. You have a wonderful eye and technique for filming and you should become a cinematographer for movie films. There are enough women in the field and you'd be great. That is one of the reason I look forward to seeing the magic you'll present and I always seem to learn something new. Graci!!
Thank you!
Kylie, hi...
just woke up to heaven on

Bravo Kylie!

Beautiful Italy 😊
Wow! A dream ❤️
Hi Kyle, I have been waiting with great anticipation as to whether you have had your baby yet?
Beautiful!
Wow !
This is off topic, but I am amazed at your resemblance to the Veemer painting Girl with a Pearl Earring. Check it out!
Bello
Love that orange tree- family tree. Is there some whaere I can get a closeup?
Yes, I love it too! You can find the image on their website Mazzei.it
We have a grand squadra for potatura
When you did the reveal of the sex of the baby I suggested the name Giovanni. I was so surprised to find out while watching the video that Guido's good friend since childhood was named Giovanni. Due to that, who knows? Maybe it might get on your list of names to consider.
If i was there i would visit Beretta, founded in 1526.
❤️❤️❤️
Oh, by the way I voted your UA-cam channel at the Blogosphere Awards 2022!
Ohhh so kind of you!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@KylieFlavell You deserve it.
At least Kylie now that you are pregnant you have another reason why you won't tasting the wine...apart from saying that you choose not to drink. My mother said that sometimes ill-mannered people try to force alcohol onto those who don't, just to make themselves feel better about their over engulgence.
👱♀️❤
Haha! Yes, although I married an ardent wine-lover, Guido never once tried to convince me to drink. Sign of a man confident that he could court a girl with only great conversation. 😂

I usually like your videos but this one felt like a commercial for wine !
Thank you Kylie. You have worked so hard to bring us the beauty of Tuscany and all of Italy despite all the obstacles. We appreciate you!❤️
I was just in that area in October and sampled some of their wine. Beautiful area and can't wait to go back!
Wow! What a beautiful place to go visit. As always, I love your cinematic videos. Thank you for sharing your talent. I look forward to every Friday🤩 I hope you and Guido are doing well & enjoying your new journey 🥰🙏🏼
What a beautiful place and that wisteria is amazing! Your videos always transport me and give me a sense of tranquility. That vineyard and its history is spectacular. I thank you for sharing and now I have another place on my “Must do”.
As usual, you have blown me away with your video. I learn so much about my adoptive country through your beautiful storytelling and your videos. I discovered the place I feel at home a few years ago in Abruzzo. I enjoy learning more and more about the country and the people. I hope you are well and I can't wait to hear more recipes and see your darling child. Best to you and Guido. ciao, Katie
I love it that this family are so closely connected to Nature, not only through their winemaking, but with their wish to enjoy their lives living with the natural environment. Your footage, Kylie, is as usual, just wonderful, though I'm wishing it could go on for longer. 😉😄Thanks again for sharing. 😘
This is just one of the things that I love about Italy and being able to call myself an Italian (by heritage)...the pride of history and family culture. Retaining the authentic and fully embracing what this incredible land has to offer. Such an incredibly beautiful place, which I have definitely added to out "must visit" list for September. It should be stunning at that time! Thank you so much for sharing Kylie.
Every second was a joy to behold! What a stunning winery and beautifully filmed, as usual. Thank you, dear Kylie. Baci xx
You can feel the warmth, see the beauty and smell the wine. Could not ask for a better start to the weekend!
The family is so fortunate to live in such a beautiful countryside. I need to move to Italy❤️💚❤️
My daughter and I are coming in the end of June. This place looks amazing! We will be checking it out. Thanks for sharing.
You should! It’s such a lovely spot for lunch if you rent a car. The few rooms they rent to holidaymakers are really full of charm too.
We came for lunch. It was amazing. Then took the tour and wine tasting. Very educational and tasty. Then spent the night. Breakfast in the morning. What an incredible and memorable time. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous cinematography and location. Fascinating and incredible. Grazie millissimo
