It was never a coup as Wagner, a security company which started after they got their first assignment in Syria depended on Russian Defence Ministry to supply them all the money and weapons. Prigozhin may have other ideas.
Putin allowed it to happen to see who is involved. Fortunately only a handful of misled followers.
They were misled to believe that they were marching to arrest Sergio Shoigu the Minister of Defense on behalf of Putin. That is why Putin gave them to options, to join Russia Army to fight Ukraine or go in exile to Belarus.
The mutiny may have traces of NATO DNA.

That was what Russian expected to happen. Prigozhin move last week was the perfect bait to the West. But no response from NATO/UK/USA. They just stunned. So, now Prigozhin was perfectly put in Belarus, next to NATO border. Even celebrated by the MSM. What a wonderful deception played by Putin, Lukashenko and Prigozhin. No coup or rebellion...😂😂😂

The way that Mr. Putin handle the Wagner situation is called leadership and a good one at that. A master chess player that he is.
He defused the situation without given the enemy the opportunity to destabilize the country and plunge it into a military crisis that would've given the enemy the upper hand they haven't achieved in the war zone after months of confrontation.
As far as those that instigated this botched coup in the middle of a war to save the country, they will all be exposed and I'm sure they would be dealt with in due time for traitors never achieve a happy ending.
Shame they've chosen to die in infamy instead of honor.

Well, a) many (Russian) people wondered (even before all that event) why Putin didn't act and did nothing to stop conflict between Wagner and Mistry of Defence.
      b) Belarusian president Lukashenko took honour to his name, telling that idea was his to negotiate and not kill Prigoshin, and Putin agreed with that. Lukashenko told in same event that he told to Prigoshin that he will be killed if he continues to Moscow, and that Belarus is also ready to deploy its army to defend Moscow against Prigoshin.
I can see lot of mistakes Putin did. One was trusting the West, he really believed that USA and EU can be trusted. Only suddenly he started call those leaders as adversaries, instead of "our friends in west". Just last year. And I think he should acted much earlier in Ukraine, not allowing them to brainwash people for 8 years to become more extreme and more nazies, and anti-russian. He also stopped his army in beginning of the escalation of Ukrainian civil war, just to show good will. And people paid that in blood. He is not god-like genius who makes only good decisions. But also not tyrant as west tells him to be.

Good points but I think he did the best he could. Unfortunately, his adversary is called U.S.A.
Imagine if Ukraine conflict could have been ended by diplomatic means early on?
Olaf Scholz and Macron were running around trying to prevent the war. Erdogan tried to organize the negotiation. What did the U.S. do? They never show any desire to negotiate at all because they plan even before Maidan coup in 2014 so that we end up with this war.

Hi, just a note about Wagner and the rule of law. When the nazis started attacking the Donbass Republics, Russia could not get involved automatically without drawing the ire of the US and Europe. Putin established the Wagner PMC (troops drawn from serving Spetnaz brigades) to fight with the Donbass Republics. This also allowed Russia to support other countries that ask for it, without the legal hang up of Russia getting directly involved. The reason why Wagner PMC and the Chechnyians have to sign contracts is the Russian constitution does not allow for Private militaries (mercenaries) to fight on Russian soil, Once Russia recognised the Donbass Republics, they are now states within the Russian federation. The economy, Putin is a creature of law, he abides by the laws and constitution of Russia, he could not just take the businesses off the oligarchs, no matter how they got their hands on them. Remember, he has a PHD in economics and a law degree, everything by the book. This SMO has opened everything up for Putin and his government. The power of all Russian oligarchs has been taken from them, by the West. He has allowed those oligarchs back into Russia but now those oligarchs must keep their money in … Russia. Private and international investment has skyrocketed in Russia because Russian oligarch money can only be spent in Russia. The Russian military complex is running smoothly, they make weapons stock’s according to the states needs, unlike the West, hence why Russia is far out pacing military production compared to the West (the US and NATO and the West). You can see the BRICS strategy is straight out of Putin’s PHD thesis, “

It's funny how some people like you still fantasise about NAZI Ukrainians and at the same time more and more antisemitic Commentaries about Selenskyj and other Ukrainian politicians pop up. Here in Germany we have some right wing and NAZI demonstrations and guess what? You see a lot of Russian Flags with the NAZI flags. Last week there was in Germany an attack on a House with Ukrainian Refugees, with a flaming device. The attackers also painted some signs on the wall. A Swastika and a "Z". The commentaries in Russian state media about drowning Ukrainian Kids, the fantasies about destroying whole Ukrainian cities, the Putin speeches, which are mostly just rewritten Goebbels speeches, the swastikas seen at fighters from the "Wagner" Group (you know why it's called "Wagner" Group, right?), the swastika tattoos of Putins personal friends like Evgenij Nikitin (He was fired in Germany because of that,) demonstrate one thing: The NAZIs are Russians in this Conflict. Even the Russian state Flag is a NAZI Flag. It is the Vlasov Flag used in WW2 by the Russians, who fought for Hitler. But don't worry. Russia will lose. And to the term "Vassal-State": We had one. It was East Germany the DDR a Vassal of Russia. West Germany and now Germany made a lot of decisions in favour of Russia and not the USA. (That's why we ere stupidly so dependent on Russian Gas.) remember the two Irak wars? Germany didn't line up with the US. Same with politics in northern Africa. So altogether I don't think you have even one point. And by the way: Nobody here is afraid of a cold winter. Gas prises are down, the reserves are full. The economy in Germany is growing. Stockmarket goes up. Russia is going down. All fine.

The definition of a coup is what had happened when Prigoz was marching with heavily armed Wagner military towards Moscow. The Q is did he intend to topple the current Russian government. I think he did, there was nothing in his videos published to suggest otherwise, and he was paid for it.

Putin returned majority ownership of natural resources corporations to the state, but with private stock trading on exchanges, so it is semi-gov business. Russia produces its own aircraft , Sukhoi Superjet 100 and has prototypes to produce it without western components to start in 2024. Russia is not neo- liberal utopia, state pays for a lot. Just look how it is rebuilding Mariupol... 43,000 construction workers...free apartments... Russian state is paying for it.

Clearly that Pregozhyn guy wanted to decapitate the government, not to replace it. Something is brewing on the highest echelons of power in Russia. And clarification is needed, the Wagner group is not a mercenary group, it responds to Russia's foreing policy at a low cost, low level of training in the classical military sense of strict following of the chain of command and it's become a rogue actor on several fronts. My guess is that Puting is not being appreciated by the Olygarchs and the russian olygarchs resent being cut off from western finances and they may be behind of this turmoil.

Similar issue in UK. The government announced that they were u-turning on the raising of the retirement age - proposal was + 2 years.
I was delighted at that decision until I realised the reason for the u-turn. Because the avaerage life expectancy has declined by 6 years!!! And we do have a public health system (although it is partly privatised and substantially under-funded continually for last 13 years).
So the problem is not only in USA.

The most annoying thing about the last Putin's announcement was that he was comparing the revolution of 1917 to Prigozhin's betrayal. Proletarians' revolution can be called betrayal only by bourgeoisie and recently he frankly called himself like that (bourgeois).

About this post, I agree it’s one of the most illuminating. Eugene being the one with the illumination this could have been denser if Brian didn’t have to occupy so much question time with obvious preludes (common mistake among UA-cam posters). Hope this will be taken as a well meaning suggestion. My general comment is how Putin has taken calm and calculated decisions in critical moments compared to emotional trigger reactions by the west (eg Xi is a dictator comment when Blinken failed to bend the Chinese to American will or the glee in Brussels and London over Prigozhin’s misadventure). I can imagine how that glee would have turned into horror if the one time chef got hold of the largest nuclear array against the west.

What I don’t understand is why Putin allowed prigozhin to remain with the soldiers on the front, festering until crisis. Either they allowed it to happen or they could not prevent it by removing him. There’s no way Putin gov did not see this trouble brewing.
I think prigozhin was frustrated as the head of Wagner, but having to obey and rely on the MOD. He seemed to never leave the front so he was seeing a lot of death and was unable to run operations and logistics as Wagner would like. And then the MOD announced that they were absorbing Wagner and this would make prigozhin irrelevant, loosing power, influence, and money. Perhaps his March was not a coup, but rather a blackmail attempt to keep Wagner and give himself more power in the gov and over the way the war is waged.

@53:00 it has nothing to do with ideology. The Soviet model was the best they could do under a war economy. Under Stalin they managed exponential growth with great sacrifice. Putin and the Economic planners around him seem to be worked Ng in that direction. Nabiulina focused on austerity not because of liberal leaning but to curtail rentiers in preparation for an economic war.
Last year Macron started complaining loudly that France has to revert to a war economy. One thing he's not doing is cutting down rentiers to size. Instead he's putting all the burden on the working class.

I wonder if and when the Ukrainian people will ever awaken to the horrors that the US and the west are doing to them. The late great Bob Marley said in one of his songs: (your worse enemy could be your best friend and your best friend your worse enemy). Are they taking the time to consider their future options where this war with Russia is concerned? And here comes the next big question: How are the people in Taiwan viewing these developments? Are they taking notes? If the US and the west are incapable of protecting Ukraine how can they protect Taiwan from China if it comes down to hostilities?

My theory as to why Prigozhin did what he did, was simply because of his arrogance & ego. Also of importance to remember is this. Just a day after this move by Prigozhin, a mysterious amount of aid to Ukraine, in the form of monetary aid, could not be accounted for, what was this money for, a big payoff to Prigozhin???? Wouldn't surprise me one bit, that he was paid to do it by American secret intelligence agency. Because this kind of thing, is the type of thing that America does all over the place. Bribing dictators, or as I call it, rewarding dictators who pander to US interests, just like Pinoche of Chile, & others like him, a US puppet etc etc.
The reason why it failed, is because of the Belarusian leader stepped in, to defuse a situation that could've ended with bloodshed. There's one thing that I've learned from western foreign policy. The west likes to pit two political sides against each other in other countries to the point of starting civil wars & conflicts, just to destabilise a country, to set ground work for a foreign coup. Just so the west can install their pro-western puppets, it's the exact same thing with Hong Kong, with Taiwan, North/South Korea, India/Pakistan, getting the picture yet???? The west has been using divide & conquer, destabilising other regions around the world for decades & has NOT stopped doing this disgusting act, it's like the west is addicted to this dirty tactic of divide & conquer. When I say the west, I don't mean every single person, I'm only talking about the leaders, the msm in the west, so for people in the west, don't be offended, because I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about your stupid western governments & msm.
