Venice has a bridge right next to it and that's the only way in. That plus cannon towers means that the place is basically unloseable for the player lategame lol
Pike and Shot is not for everyone. It is a very deliberate style of warfare, more like chess in some ways. I enjoy it, but there is no doubt it can be boring as crap for some.
I was always felt displeasure at the fact Total War hasn't gone fully into that era, but as best described by yourself, it would not be palatable for many. I've always needed to get my fix from ether prolonging a campaign into late game Medieval, or trying to savor what's left at the very beginning of Empire Total War.
there´s also a mod called 1648 Total War which covers the Thirty Years War. But it seems to be made by Germans and as such much of it is in German (things like Documentarys as Video messages) but if i recall it right you should be able to play it if you ignore most of the historical informations.
saw that it was a venice campaign and was like "Yay! He's doing mine!" Then I remembered that I didn't make it to the 15th century before my reliance on merchants (it was an RP campaign) betrayed me :(
I'm curious, why doesn't Legend use keybinds to issue commands, or even pause? Pauses I can understand if he's used to legendary difficulty, but not using backspace to halt orders or R-key to run? Reaction time goes way down. Or is it because clicking commands gives a better idea for the viewer of what he's doing?
I know you dont want to "win" the campaign in this series but this situation with so little turns remaining would be an interesting challenge to see you do
What I find the most suspicious about this campaign - he hasn't uncovered a lot of the map, yet he is at war with almost everyone (one potential reason could be that the Pope called a crusade against him and everyone jumped in, but that wouldn't explain Novgorod). However, you can see that his fleet has traveled quite a bit - I think he probably just sailed around and blocked everyone's ports to start wars.
Worst case he put time into making a disaster happen because he did play otherwise he never had armies with 9xp units and his rankings never really changed.
If you play on Very Hard and stay this small and weak this is what your campaign looks like after 20-40 turns, AI always dogpiles the weakest guy on the block. You may not have seen it happen before because it's a pretty easy game and you are ahead of all AI by 20 turns (I usually am myself).
What to do in Shogun 2(fots) when half of the realm's navies is by your shore and you don't have a navy. Playing as Tosa and have conquered all 4 other settlement on the island. At this point, I been beating back naval invasions after another. :(
Restart and rush explosive shells (the first naval tec iirc), one of the strongest techs in the game. With that you can win naval battles fairly easily in early-mid game.
The AI in battles in most TW games is just garbage... how many times have we seen an entire army getting wrecked by 1 or 2 general unit just by flanking manouevers... I mean where is the challenge... and that it's not when the AI seiging army just sits there doing nothing while he is getting hammered with tower fire... it's just ridiculous.. and not to mention that most of the time when the AI charges, he does it with his general heads on and get wrecked everytime.... The cavalry in general in this game is just OP and general units are really just what you need to win... quite silly..
Legend do an only Merchant campaign, only merchants allowed, no troops, no generals (a part from the faction leader), and no other agents and similar stuff
If i got $1 for every time legend sais "I f*cking hate restrict camera" in this series i could by myself a new car. But he's right f*ck restrict camera
@Legend I really liked your comments on the merchant question. It was really great how you voiced your opinion about the merchant in such a clear and direct way. I guess CAs final solution to remove them was somewhat inevitable. Would you care to talk about other topics like this one?
Where did you get this statistic that you have to kill 85% of an army in order to destroy it? From my finding, it takes the destruction of some 86-90% of any single unit in order to ensure that it doesn't come back.
I think if you attempted to verify this yourself you'll find it correct. 85% but go for 86% just to be safe because sometimes you've killed 84.9% but it rounds up. The individual unit doesn't matter. I've had whole units of cav run away without taking a single casualty but get wiped out because every infantryman in the army got captured and executed afterwards. The only exception is that if the army is commanded by a proper general, as in not a captain, you have to kill that general as well. If you don't kill him then even if you get 99% kills the army will still survive, unless retreat is impossible for them. This theory has worked time and time again for me without ever failing.
@@LegendofTotalWar It might just be for Empire/Napoleon then as I'm sure in both of those games I can recall a single unit getting away resulting in endless pillaging campaigns by said unit.
Not all total war games use the same annihilation conditions. Could have agreed with you right away if you mentioned Empire/Napoleon. 85% numbers is just for Rome 1 and Medieval 2.
Not trying to bitch about it but could you maybe have the thumbnails relate to the game in the video? I don't really watch any of the new total war vids but do watch all med2 disasters. This disaster campaign idea was awesome btw.
This campaign smells like turtling to me. It's such a huge problem how many guides say you should build up and turtle. It's a huge disservice to the noobs. Here's a pro tip from a strategy game lover: turtling is ALWAYS the wrong strat, no matter the strategy game, if you see someone claiming to be an "expert" but they recommend turtling DO NOT trust them. Every good strategy game (read: not civ 5 after the Brave New World expansion) requires initiative, map control and rewards the player who gets these two things the fastest.
The only game I can think of that rewards "turtling" in anyway is 7 Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries and turtling in that game in my opinion refers to relocating the villages you capture back to a central area so you can defend your villages and weapons factories a lot easier. It also means you don't need as many troops to defend your stuff as well since the computer tends to spread out so enemy attacks tend to only include forces from one area at a time or multiple forces from different areas that will arrive in waves. As a result a concentrated force will either have a numerical edge in a battle or have the ability to weaken one wave of troops heavily or even completely before the next part of the attack wave hits. In fact, the only time turtling in a more traditional sense works in that game is if your playing on a sea map and your the only kingdom on your island either via your starting position or because you relocated to an island not inhabited by a computer controlled kingdom. After all, the player can use their knowledge of the tech tree to quickly research cannon equipped ships and blow up enemy ports. After all, you don't have to worry about being able to effectively defeat your enemies if you can ensure they'll never be able to reach you in the first place.
Just out of curiosity: You sort of read "Ajaccio" like "Aya" in Maya and "Cho" in Chore So Aya-Cho would be pretty similar to the actual thing You most definitely don't give a shit but still, if you ever go to holiday in Corsica for some fucking reason you'll be good

I remember when I played as Venice once and since I was in the middle of the map the entire world was at war with me... Good times good times...
Yeah the more factions you are at war with the more souls you can harvest
1:49:56 I haven't seen the trait lord of terror before
You must be new here.
I really enjoy the later period campaigns only because you rarely play that period.
Its nice to see you command fully professional armies.
Absolutely loving this idea, a refreshing change from the done-a-million-times let's play
Huge fan of your content Legend, I can and do spend hours watching your videos. Always entertaining. Greetings from Germany!!👋👋
At the end of the episode you should toggle_fow so we get too see the whole map
Ah, the legendary cannon towers. The pinnacle of game design by the CA. Because it totally makes sense for the AI to just stand there and take it :)
Venice has a bridge right next to it and that's the only way in. That plus cannon towers means that the place is basically unloseable for the player lategame lol
26:46 I find it very hard to believe 74 crossbowmen can hide themselves out of sight of an enemy army by standing between two trees
54:00 I just noticed it was raining ever so slightly, explains why the musketeers were so bad. tbh
Your videos hit me just in the right spot.
With love from New Zealand.
Could you do a serie where you never recruit ur own faction army's but only buy mercanery's 🤔🤔
Imgud this need sum upvotes
I think you'd end up in bankrupcy by turn 10
nah, with Legen'ds tactica, his blitzkrieg would be swift
I'm not 100% but I think in his Blitz campaign he only hired mercs
In RTW2 with Carthage and the right tech upgrades it's quite cheap and awesome doing a merc only playthrough
Mason's Guild Headquarters, though...
That's impressive.
The way the advisor interrupts himself is hilarious.
"I think that's the dream, killing the pope" - LegendofTotalWar 2018
Why do I love these disasters so much?
Left with capture 39 provinces in 40 turns, to be fair completely doable but not for someone who got themselves into that situation
Even for experienced players thats a tough task at this stage of the game because there are stacks everywhere

Dylan Derouin you should try out the Italian wars mod for med2 it’s based in Italy in the late 15th to 16th centuries.
That's exactly what I needed to hear to brighten up the day. I'll be looking that up and installing that right now! Thanks

Dylan Derouin no problem hope you enjoy it!
Loving this series, nice to see someone doing some original and high quality Total War content.
My only question is how do you make the cavalry speed away like that? When I order them they sit there, looking around like idiots.
saw that it was a venice campaign and was like "Yay! He's doing mine!" Then I remembered that I didn't make it to the 15th century before my reliance on merchants (it was an RP campaign) betrayed me :(

I have a great sentiment for Venice because it was my first faction which conquered all map in Medieval 2 😎💪
*Legendoftotalwargasims* ahhhhhhhh... 2 hour ep..
You know that you can press the rally button and your general pauses to do the animation meaning they don’t run out ahead when you charge?
I know you dont want to "win" the campaign in this series but this situation with so little turns remaining would be an interesting challenge to see you do
Only thing I use playing against Mongols and Timurids

so ... interested in vampire coast DLC campaign? a shame they couldn't release just before Halloween
the first thought that came up to my mind when seeing this vid was " *WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON* "
He protecc, he attacc and he saves the day yet again
I felt that mass sieging at the 1 hour mark
Oh well, time to play some Medieval 2 I guess
Legend, what buttons do u use to move ur battle camera? Casue for me its impossible to use the arrow keys
*When you realise this campaign is basically the Italian Wars, but one Century sooner.*
Legend - what's your favorite era in Medieval 2 (Early, High, Late, Early-SS, Late-SS)
The Swiss guard is walking all over Europe while the Pope stays in Rome undefended. AI is a bit weird in Total War sometimes.
I'm not sure did Legend know about the captain-exploit or could it have slipped his radar? Always flank from right is all I say... ;)

Keep on going with this sheit its so cool lol everytime something different
ah so THIS is what sallying out looks like!
Love your work, and respect for it, always!
Love these thumbnail pictures
why did the holy romans AI just eat all the cannon tower shots and not charge and use its siege at any point?
because they weren't assaulting yet, legend was technically attacking, via sally out.
You turned the Swiss guard into Swiss cheese
I have a question. Do you take only vanilla factions into consideration or do you also un-fuck custom factions like the Papal state?
just no mods except for ss6.4

I love medieval II so much.
How did you fill "the mad" character on your doge ?
Legend do an only Merchant campaign, only merchants allowed, no troops, no generals (a part from the faction leader), and no other agents and similar stuff

How does he keep stainless steel from crashing all the goddamn time?
Swiss Guard? More like Swiss...Charred!
Could you believe ive never played the mediterranean factions in SS apart from the byzantines? Why not play Venice... or Genoa? Hmm..
after 181 turns still in Venice
You should really play Planet war mod for medieval i would love to watch that
Disband the Fleet and you’ll be cash positive or at least closer.
these guys just declare war on everybody before sending the savefile XD
Why are the alcohol ads all over this video for me? I don't drink silly google.

Gregory 85% of army destoys them all even if a full unit manages to get away at the end they should be gone

you should have disbanded all your ships at the beginning to save money
Gonna reach 100k soon
It's amazing how you resurrect disaster situations every time!
30:54 EPIC xD
Lmao, pope really care about Florence-
Bro made it to EU4
Contact your local doge today and raise anti merchant awareness!
u should do an honor challenge to show the haters u can play without ai tricks to the haters once and for all
Soon to a 100k
Just out of curiosity:
You sort of read "Ajaccio" like "Aya" in Maya and "Cho" in Chore
So Aya-Cho would be pretty similar to the actual thing
You most definitely don't give a shit but still, if you ever go to holiday in Corsica for some fucking reason you'll be good
where merchants? no merchants? just call it a loss, you cant unfuck disasters without op merchants.
How many spies bro? HOW MANY *SPIES?*
love this
When you see his old financials, you know it's a staged campaign. You don't go from 2 million in cash to no cash, one city, 2 family members lol
The pope did IRL lmao
but yeah, still looks like a fun game. You usually don't get to play the "early stage building up" thing with gunpowder troops
remember a shit assassin started ww1 there is always a chance :P
You misspelt cluster fuck
Bolognaise sauce, anyone?
181 turns lol
the fleet in venice had an army i think so
It was a single cavalry unit.
the way you pronounce bolonga every time you say it, you hurt my soul
LOL
Hi
Wilhelm II German Emperor herro
Oy vey! Stop invading me!
