- We are all reeling after yet another senseless shooting that took place at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen people lost their lives and more than a dozen are hospitalized. Donald Trump gave a speech addressing the tragic events saying that no child or teacher should be afraid of their lives while at school. Jimmy agrees with Trump but in order to fix this SOMETHING has to be done. We need real laws that keep assault rifles out of the hands of people who are going to shoot our kids. These Congressmen and lobbyists don’t work for the NRA, they work for us. If you want to help go to www.everytown.org and write to your representatives. If they don’t listen, vote them out.

Even though this happened 2 years ago and I’m not living in the USA, it still makes me so sad know those 17 kids died for nothing, they died in pain, at such a young age. they had futures, they had families, they had potential to be something, grow up, meet someone, get married, have kids and then watch them do the same and die having no regrets in life. And it was all taken away from them because of one monster. Those children and teachers with be in our hearts till the end of time.
Same here. That’s exactly what I think about. I was only 18 when it happened, just graduated high school. And I remember thinking “that could literally be me”. And to this day I still think I about how much they had ahead is them. The goals they had, some of them had great goals and plans for their future. Some people them didn’t but didn’t live long enough to find out exactly what they wanted to do in life. It just sucks. They were barely about to start life.

Age restrictions also vary on what type of firearm you're looking to purchase but yes like ethereal said, if you can go off to war at 18 then it is perfectly reasonable for you to be able to have the ability to protect yourself and your property at the same age.

It's heartwarming when I turn on the TV, to see those hundreds of shipments of thoughts and prayers being unloaded in Florida this morning. I'd also like to take time to thank all the volunteers that have shown up early and work long hours distributing those thoughts and prayers. Everyone touched by this tragedy has a hard road ahead, but I hope when they look at one of the thoughts and/or prayers that they received, that person knows that there is a stranger out there that personally gave it to them from the kindness of their heart.

I’m reading these headlines seeing the shooter had a “troubled pass” not teen who made several threats and got expelled school and was already on the FBI’s watch list.

That is incorrect. In most states you need a driver's license or state ID in order to get a gun. Not only that if you are younger than 18 you can't even buy one for yourself. Even if you are older than 18 you are limited to shotguns and rifles. Once you are 21 you can finally purchase a handgun. I really recommend you go to your local gun shop and ask questions. Don't just listen to people who have 6 digits worth of money who can hire people with guns to protect them. Go out and see for yourself what you need to do in order to purchase a firearm. Btw handguns require a state and federal background check.

If you don't have free speech, you aren't a democracy anymore. As it is the second amendment it seems to have been the second most important right to the founders. Atleast the first 10 amendments shouldn't be touched.
BTW the U.S. is not a Democracy, its a Constitutional Republic. The founding fathers knew that guaranteed rights of the people were more important to a free society then a country ran by mob rule.

Here in Los Angeles's school districts, we have police officers inside the school at all times during school hours and also we have a patrol car circling the around the school. I never felt intimidated by their presence. Instead I felt safe during middle school and high school

I voted for him and I'm a lifetime member of the NRA and I by no means like to see these shootings happening. I also am not gonna react on emotion and start crying to ban guns of any kind. You used to be able to buy an ar15 and pay $200 for the NFA tax stamp and convert it to full auto before the ban in 1986 and not one of them have ever been used in an act of crime. There's an estimated 175k registered full autos in civilians's hands in the USA. Not one used in a crime. Why didn't we see school shootings like we see today back then? Easy, we didn't have the media technology and social media like we have today. There's an endless stream of video and opinions from all across the globe and these sick people see that. They then go out and try to outdo the last person and make a statement. They know they'll be popular and get the attention they want. The whole world will know their name, face and what their farts smell like and it's all streamed 24/7 while the next individual plans his attack as he watches the hysteria. They feed off of that. It's not the President or the NRA or gun laws that promotes this. It's the media that promotes it!
