    just picked mine up, damn weather in the north east has been too cold to ride, and have been watching reviews to pick up anything about the bike. Coming from a zx6r there is no comparison in sheer violence and acceleration, not to mention the build quality.

    Great review, Tesla road and that whole area out there is a blast. This is where I take my KTM SD 990 when I don't feel like going to the coast (Alice's hwy 84. hwy 1 etc).
    P.S Carnegie Forever!

    Luckily this bike is priced out of MOST inexperienced riders price range. This is a bike that will kill people very very easily. I mean most bikes, particularly liter bikes, can kill an inexperienced rider without them even knowing what happened but this is a different level. This is a newbies death machine and an experienced riders playground.

    my next bike in oct. Ive been on this road with other SBRers but on an f4i sadly. been to Carnegie too. this road and many like it are WHY im moving back to Bay Area. you made the right choice with the 1290 . Any thoughts on adding full race exhaust ?

    • @calmoto9073
      @calmoto9073  10 років тому

      I think a slip on is the way to go. There's a small European company, Wings Exhaust, that builds a very nice can at a very nice price with a very nice tone. I would also bypass the cat for reduced weight....the bike has tons of power. Welcome back!

    How comfortable is this bike to ride? Sort and long distances. I had a lean over but am looking for something more comfortable and forgiving on the body.

    Were you somewhere in the Santa Monica Mtns? Like around Malibu, Lago, Snake area? What road is that? I'd like to try it solo as well... Doesn't seem like a busy one. Love the 1290 btw... I want to sell my GSXR 600 for one.

      For me, and this contains zero judgment, it's the 1290. The BMW won every shootout, but the KTM just puts some stank on it:)

    So how does this compare to the s1000r? I had the opportunity to ride the 1290 and thought it nice. The suspension was too soft for me but I only rode it for 20 minutes. I didn't have time to dial in the suspension.

      The BMW seems like more of a Gentleman's bike. The KTM is more comfortable, but more aggressive; it has more testosterone:).

    can you elaborate on the comment you made about the traction control vs the triple ?
    the best TC is one that is hard to notice. You don't want to know its working when it does. Is it that you notice it working too much , to often , slows you down when it shouldn't ?

    • @calmoto9073
      @calmoto9073  10 років тому

      The KTM's TC is awesome and not at all intrusive when you're riding hard and keeping a pace...it really works. That said, I like to ride wheelies (I suck at it) and the TC won't let me. I have to turn it all off and I'm not comfortable doing that on 180hp. The SP3 is more fun as a Hooligan because it's not as intense and doesn't need TC.

    • @joecuppa6926
      @joecuppa6926 10 років тому +1

      Cal Moto ah ok got it. We all suck doing wheelies at first . but you'll get it with practice . 180ps is allot of power to play with for sure. Thanks for all your videos . nice to see contributions like yours

    I am looking at the triple r and the s1000r how does the super duke compare is it a everyday rider cause I need a bike that's fun functional and a everyday rider pulse to go canyon riding on the weekends but is the price tag worth it I guess I am asking?? Chad Munday in vancouver wa...

    • @calmoto9073
      @calmoto9073  10 років тому

      I'm a huge fan of the Speed Triple; it's the funnest of the three to me. I wish it had 15-20 more hp, but that's easily attainable. That said, the 1290 is the most comfortable, and probably the best of the bunch. You should ride a demo, they're out there.

      First question before you buy any of those bikes is what is your experience level? If you don't have many years of riding under your belt as WELL AS proper training - motorcycle riding class is a must, then you should not even consider a liter bike. Liter bikes turn noobs into organ donors. I ride a liter that can wheelie in 1,2,3 without even clutching it up and I'm telling you if you don't have experience a liter will most likely kill you. Fact.

    Although I praise KTM for making great new bikes I still don't trust their reliability and dealer support sucks here in Ohio. Here is a long term test where the guy said the 1290 super duke had all kinds of problems one being engine pumping out coolant: www.motorcyclenews.com/news/first-rides-tests/2015/january/jan8ktm/

    • @Inspirikus
      @Inspirikus 7 років тому

      That was one bike or two bikes...every vendor have an issue occasionally. Even Honda had their share of oil leaks and what not...
      Its mechanical it is electrical...so it can brake down. You should not be put off from getting one because one guy had an issue. I know from first hand S1000R for example shitload of complain for coolant reservoir, fairings fly away, kill switch get stack after washing, cruise control micro switch get fucked up if you change levers...and many more. I had this bike for 3 years had 3 recall done to prevent issues but it never left me on the side of the road, it never gave me any issues during the rides...So yeah shit can happened but this should not put you off from buying the bike that makes you smile every time when you go for an ride...

    Cal Moto what is the situation with the rear hub issue. I am only now becoming aware that KTM has reportedly delivered the 1290's with rear hub play.
    There is a lot of discussion regarding rear hub play in forums as well as the KTM's own site, www.1290superduker.com/cms/.
    Are you aware if KTM acknowledges there being an issue, is it being addressed?
    Many thanks,
    Wm.

      When he's going down a twisty road constantly on/off the brakes? If he was inexperienced then yes, I would definitely not advise it but, for anyone with a bit of experience who isn't gonna grab a handful of front brake, it's more effective.
      Sorry I know this is an old comment but had to be said!

    1st of all, SuperDuke won every comparo I saw, granted neck and neck with the Aprilia, and second of all the Z1000 is not in this conversation any more than the Honda CB1000R is, you viewers are whack-a-doo. But that's the fun of UA-cam

      In same league as the SuperDuke:
      - Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory
      - BMW S1000R
      NOT in the same league (but still good):
      - Street Triple
      - CB1000R
      - Z1000 (boring bike)
      - MV Agusta

    Beautiful bike but for the 10,5 I paid for my new z1000 I'll take that at almost 7k less than this bike any day. After mods my Z is downright nasty. Dollar for dollar there is no better naked in the world than the Z1000. Plus I can do stand up wheelies in 1,2 and 3 without even trying although I don't go around doing them cause I'm not a squid.
    But if you are rich and have more money than sense to throw at motorcycles than go for this bike.
