  • Building a Bamboo 'Shishi-odoshi' water feature for the Koi pond, using recycled bamboo from an old sun chair. The water comes from the outlets of the greenhouse which circulates & filter pond water in the aquaponics system.
    Shishi-odoshi "Now"
In a Swedish forest, by a koi pond where tranquility whispers,
Shishi-odoshi finds a new purpose, a guardian of koi,
Frightening away herons and predators with its rhythmic song.
    Shishi-odoshi "Then"
In the land where the cranes dance and cherry blossoms drift,
Whispers of nature find their voice in Shishi-odoshi,
The deer-frightener, the boar-banisher, guardian of the harvest.
From scarecrows that stand silent watch, to clappers that echo through fields,
And the humble sōzu, a symphony of balance and surprise.
In a garden's embrace, where tranquility reigns,
A sōzu whispers secrets of water and wood.
A bamboo tube, segmented and pivoted with grace,
Waits patiently, its heavier end nestled upon a rock.
A gentle stream of water gathers, a silent promise,
Until the weight shifts, the balance breaks-
The tube rotates, spills its liquid song,
And with a crisp knock, the cycle begins anew.
Originally, these sounds were born to startle,
To send deer and boars fleeing from tender shoots and leaves.
Now, they linger as part of the garden's soul,
    Their rhythmic dance a meditation,
A blend of sight and sound,
An ode to harmony and nature's timeless flow.
