I remember when the Beolab 5's came out, my dad is a autistics engineer at B&O in Struer and has worked there for 50 years. He worked on the 5's and I remember having them at home for real world testeting before they where launched for sale. omg the power of these things is just mindboggling! My parants still have the very same speakers to this day.
One of my favourite speakers of all time, the design is so futuristic and timeless David Lewis designed some amazing speakers for B&0 enjoyed your video on them!👌🏾
Dear Steve, thank you so much for your brilliant videos, I really love all of them. However, in one point i have to disaggree with you: In my opinion it is definitively NOT obsolet to use the Beosound Core for Beolab 5 speakers, as the new Beoconnect Core still doesn't support the SPDIF-connection. (Hopefully it will come someday with the USB-C-Port and an external USB-C to SPDIF or USB-C to COAX-adapter.) And as you mention in your video: The difference between analog and digital is so huge in the Beolab 5s and in my opinion you should use them only with a digital source - an that is where the Beosound Core is the holy grale 😊 Greetings from Austria, Alex
Dear Alex, thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you like my videos! It is sad that the new Beoconnect Core doesn't support S/PDIF digital output. My suggestion is to use a different streaming device such as Sonos Port, as this can provide a volume controlled S/PDIF digital output and it works perfectly with Beolab 5.
Hi Steve! I'm looking into buying these speakers as a replacement for my Penta's. Can I connect them to an amp? (Denon DRA900H) Maybe trhough the pre-amp output?
I love the Beolab 5's and think they are such a beautiful speaker. I'd love to own a pair one day. My only problem is that I would want to pair it with the Beomaster 9500, and I'm not sure if that is a good match.
Hi, that is a superb match, the Beolab 5s will work perfectly with your 9500 system. Please ask at soundsheavenly.com if you need any help with cables when you are ready!
Hi, yes you can use one speaker but they work much better as a stereo pair. I can help with connections at soundsheavenly.com if you are in UK or Europe
I own a and love mine for 20+ years by now... I have a problem with the room correction though. once the top sensor is pressed, the mic extends to position 1 and the 1st frequency starts rumbling. that runs for perhaps 3 minutes but then just stops and the mic is pulled back in and the top led is flashing red. both speakers show the same behaviour.
Ps I was very tempted as a pair of Sonus Faber Serafino speakers ex demo were available at literally half price at 11k . I had a good think about it but the SF were larger than 5s , no room correction, passive so I’d need to spend a few grand on a suitable amplifier to partner , amps built into 5s of course and all my other gear is BnO so there ye go . I’ve read that the guy from Sausilto Audio was playing 5s in a 3 x 2 room !!!!!! He said the room correction accounted for the tiny space . As you say an incredibly flexible speaker something that the beautifully looking SF could not give me . And Beolab 5s are not bad looking themselves , I’m sure I just seen Dan Dare chasing the Mekon !!!
Yes, David Moulton used these speakers in a tiny room to good effect, I think he had 5 of them in his recording studio at one point! Amazing speakers and superb value for money now, I love the retro-space age looks!
@@soundsheavenly absolutely 👍 BnO use Scanspeak drivers as you know well that they are one of the best in the world , Wilson audio use them and their most expensive speaker is at a frightening $850 k !!! So that says something about BnOs components. Sone say 5 is dated but I don’t buy into that , you can’t date speakers if this quality the source may need updating after a good few years but that’s about it .
Hello Steve! Is there a workaround to get a room correction? I have a separate room correction unit that I'm using to get the best sound possible. How would I integrate that in the system? Im thinking of running the wires in the room correction and then out again, into a powerline unit with the other cables.
I got the 5's years ago...they are the best by a country mile. I also have the 50's and they are NO WAY worth 5 times the price of the 5's...TBH, for me, the 5's have the 50's licked, the base kick power is like no other.

Yes, they are amazing, I still remember when I first heard that 20 years ago, I was blown away by the power and sound quality.

Thanks, glad you liked the video! These are great speakers, it was amazing what David Lewis achieved.
I remember when these first launch in Sydney Australia around 2003? and I ordered the very 1st pair..I just love them..the look and sound is brilliant
Yes, they are still amazing, they seemed like they had come from space when I first heard them 20 years ago!

Excellent Steve my Beolab 5s arrive very soon , Rose Gold can’t wait to hear them
Wow, I haven't seen the Rose Gold version yet, really excited to see a picture when they arrive!
Awesome!

great video thanks Steve, i'm sure Beolab 5 sound great but i couldnt look at them in my own home, all the traffic cone speakers are not my thing
I agree the style is not to everyone's taste, but they certainly sound amazing!
Hello Steve, many thanks for your valuable input to the B&O world, can this speaker used as a stand alone? In the Kitchen for example?? Thank you

Sorry I don't know about faults or repairs, I just make cables! Best to contact a B&O repair agent, I'm sure they can get them sorted for you.

Steve, the video would be better without the background music. Other than that love my 5,s, keep the videos coming
Thanks, I will note that for future videos

Im thinking of running the wires in the room correction and then out again, into a powerline unit with the other cables.
Hi! Yes, Beolab 5 has room correction for the bass, or I can help with adding external room correction devices at soundsheavenly.com

Yes they are still great speakers, amongst the best I have heard!
