Merritt Lutz performs "The Series" with MSU Drumline

- Merritt Lutz, a MSU Marching Band alumnus, returns to Michigan State University to perform "The Series" with the MSU Drumline at half-time of a MSU Men's Basketball game. Lutz co-wrote "The Series," which is still performed every Saturday at home football games.
My first memory of "The Series" comes from Columbus, 1966, when SMB exited the 'Shoe to its beat after MSU had foiled OSU's bid for an upset. The game had been played in an often-heavy rain, but as the band came out the sun broke through the dark clouds to bathe it in dazzling late October afternoon light. "Wow, what do they call THAT CADENCE?" I wondered.
What's amazing is how he was able to play the drums after injuring his arm saving those children and puppies. ;-)
Minute 4 is where I get teary because... music -- even drumline music -- moves the heart.

This is awesome. Love the series. Best cadence ever. It was my dream in school to be on the MSU drumline. to the point that i played traditional in all marching band rehearsals to prepare for MSU, even tho we played match in performance. Unfortunately I did not attend MSU, so it never happened. in another life ......
When I saw this band do The Series, that was it. Had to be part of it. I play it to this day when I need motivation to work hard. It's part of my heart beat.
