- Twice a year, in January and November, the setting sun aligns perfectly with MIT’s 825-foot-long Infinite Corridor. Planetary scientist Richard Binzel describes MIThenge as “a major cultural moment on campus … when the heavens and MIT seem to align.”

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of hands-on problem-solvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.
The MIT UA-cam channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video. - Наука та технологія
In the 1970's I roller skated the halls of this place as a child of a tenure engineering professor.
It truly is a magical place.
What are u doing now ?
@@aryantomer1126 he roller skated to the Sun

As long as the Infinite Corridor, or any structure for that matter, aligns within a certain directional range, there will be two days a year where the sun lines up. This isn't an unusual phenomena, nor was this the intent of the schools layout. New York City has Manhattanhenge every year in May and again in July, where the sunset is directly in line with the numbered streets. It's just the general nature of the Sun's drift relative to the Earth's horizon during orbit. I wonder when this became a "thing", since it was never this big of a deal when I was there. I mostly remember a couple of days per year when it was really annoying walking back to the dorms after class because the sun was shining in your eyes the entire way, but back then I was also a cranky, overworked, sleep-deprived student. I like how they are celebrating it now, because it gives you something to anticipate instead. I also like how they recommend the third floor, because it is usually empty and the crowds of students there won't block the students needing to get to somewhere else on the main floor.
Is there astronomy in MIT?
@@satvikvarun6386 all sciences are covered at MIT
there is a downtown-centric version of this in manhattan which they call manhattanhenge
You can thank that neil guy for hyping up the sun and its alignment.
I think lots of cultures have built monuments like this that highlights solstice alignments with decent precision.
nope.. but americans sure like those mythmaking moments and stories..
We don't care much for solstices at the equator... I live on lat. 6 lon. 3
This was so much fun to watch when I was a student back in the mid-1970s. MIT is such a special place! I encourage all current students to explore as much of the institute as you can! People (students, faculty and staff) and all the amazing facilities, bottom-to-top! ❤
Just curious, What you do nowadays?
MIT is just another name of perfection.lots of love for this place🤗
I graduated from MIT in 1969. I remember this,
@Yaxshimurod Aimway abc
@Yaxshimurod Aimway hi which country you are from
@Yaxshimurod Aimway it would be difficult from any country out of USA, MIT don't select on the basis on sat score or any type of other exam except usa
Beautiful! My son graduated from MIT about 2 months ago in Mathematics and Computer Science!
MIT is synonymous with greatness. What a wonderful place!!
Entering MIT is like entering heaven
So the vice versa must be true.
@@harip.2814 It seems that institutes like this have been coming into the limelight since the past few years.
But there's not so much mention of MENSA.
Not long ago those in some position of affluence/ authority would be asked if they considered themselves, as privileged people!
The questioners, inquired as to how they could prove their own worth when it came to earnings!
Some times visiting entertainers or performers get booed, no matter how good their act is!
Some of the inmates of such institutions say that "it's just one of those things!
I hope to pursue a Phd from this institute one day!
Same
🤣
You might but you need top IIT degree for that
Yes i want that too
@Mrinal Dhami it's not about the tag. It's about the exposure and btw IITs are known for thier rigour and intellectual pools so it does help. Less due to its tag but more due to the opportunities it gives you
I'm telling you, MIT is *literally* the future.
MIT always makes me think of creativity and productivity
Would love to do a PhD with them. Literally a dream come true!
People keep asking me why I'm obsessed with MIT?
> from now on this video is going to be proof of it!
Name me any institution on earth which is so pragmatic to what they teach? Even institution's corridor aligns with MIT's latin motto - "Mens et Manus" meaning "Mind and Hand"💯🙌🏼
That's'a great video guys, thank you
This is amazing, just like MIT!
I'll be there for the MIT henge next week!
Are you in the MiT family ? I'd really appreciate if you could tell me what exactly do you do there ?
@@thegeniusgamers5273 I'm a postdoc at MIT
@@CampusMania You are a lucky one to be able to see that heavenly view at MiT. Hey hey I've watched your videos. I'm a new subscriber.
what a nice guy...thanks for your explanations
I love MIT!
My cousin Nancy Hopkins just retired a few years as the Amgen professor at MIT ; she now has started a new company even at 78 called Boston Biotech Working Group to support WOMEN to bring ideas to Venture and Capital companies to go public because lack of support ; only one at MIT has gone public by a woman even though 50% of the Phd's are awarded to woman ; the ex Female president of MIT has joined the effort too
Learning and researching at MIT is itself a Heaven 🌫️💝
Great job.
Incredible!
This is beautiful.
The sun loves MIT!
So MIT has adopted a Primitive Early man culture and proved it is most advanced
It’s like a message from the heavens…
For me to work on my FUN Form

That's cool. And Yeah location makes more special to MIT University.
When people say that college is overrated or college is irrelevant I always ask, have you seen stuff done and taught at MIT????
I hope my kids go there when they get older.
It's November and I don't see any uploaded infinite corridor UA-cam video
Man I love this place. Makes me happy knowing there are people who are as obsessed with science and facts as much as I am.
It's my dream college hope I can study there one day
Well Said,really.!
now that is MIT
Hope to go to you one day for a PhD in astrophysics, ill work hard and hopefully ill get to see the MIT-henge one day myself :)

Someone is trying to drive tourist traffic to MIT.
I'm sold. How much are tickets?
Should have named it after New Grange in Ireland

i am from rural village of india , my big dream is to study in MIT..
This professor reminds me of Dr. Connors from the 2012 Spiderman movie
@2:33 Eastern Standard "Time" ?
Did they show it to us, the audience??
It would be something if it was more grand

Maybe not the presenter’s field of expertise, but why no mention of the miniature amphitheater? How’s Legal Seafood, they still up and running?
In India, over 1800 years old Temples made from Hardest Rock on Earth Granite... Has more sophisticated alignment and synchronised Architecture with the Solar and Lunar cycles...
This is overhyped...while those are forgotten...
My sadness knows no bound ...!
Same thing is in IIT Bombay . Infinite corridor. 🤣🤣. Ya I enjoy there very much btw
shape of aaa atoms and atoms striking each other generating black hole. spinal tap
you don't need MIT to become Elon Musk, Albert Einstein is not from MIT either. So beautiful architecture!
I love MIT sure hope they don't catch covid
Boost your engineering knowledge here💯💯🇺🇸
I don't know how are you sir. I should visit Indian temple it's located in karnataka Hampi . You will never forget after visiting it.
I will go to MIT
I thought MIT was the michigan institute of technology until grade 9. Well it doesnt matter since im not going anyway
2:05. Okey. Legit curiosity. Does the MIT teaches to measure things in feet, inches, etc.? No metric system at MIT?
An architecture that has the shape of the golden ratio is transparent to the "true Light"... This true alchemical light is the dark matter, which creates gravity by pressing all physical matter (darkness)...
> In French : Une architecture qui a la forme du nombre d'or est transparent à la "véritable Lumière" ... Cette véritable lumière alchimique est la matière noire, qui crée la gravité en pression toutes les matières physiques (les ténèbres) ...

Dr Erik Selvig… alignments coming… you have your pants on?
👍🏻
All this is okay but I was a bit disappointed when you rejected Peter Parker and his friends' application 😂😂😂
825 feet == 251.46 meter. I kind request to our US friends overseas; Could you at least just pick a single unit system rather than expressing so many things in more than one unit. Use yards. It is super close to meters; 1 yard is almost 1 meter. Then you can add metric multipliers, most of which you already know from bytes on computers. 1 kilo yard per hour is almost 1 kilometer per hour. 1 centiyard is a almost 1 centimeter. Just pick one. Preferably yards.
moral of the story is ciggarate is injurious to health .
The only thing I truly respect in USA is MIT.
IIT is great..
good joke🤣🤣🤣
yeah, IIT is great for its entrance exam but not college
in terms of college MIT is better than IIT
FOR EXAMPLE ,
A boy called Chirag Falor got rank 1 in JEE advance 2020 and he refused to join in iit rater than MIT
THERE ARE MANY STUDENTS WHO LOVE MIT
I have read that MIT is best for Astronomy research and physics. 😍
Is it true?
I want to study in MIT 🤓
Do we have Msc courses also? Or only Phd .
And, if I want to join, is there any exam?
Currently I am in Bsc 1st yr.
