David, this bean that you have seems to be the species Mucuna Elliptica, within the same genus as the stinging velvet bean in your other video. Very awesome indeed.
I grew an Entada plant once. They are legumes, so the pre-treatment you gave them was spot on. Rubbing them on sandpaper or a file works well too when breaking into the seedcase. Mine didn't last long as the climate was too cold. But, as luck would have it I live in the tropics now and picked up a few seeds for my local beach today. Thanks for the video mate.
I can't wait to get my food forest growing and producing properly. Still learning lots. Would be nice to just grow some random stuff and see what happens!
I've found a bucket full of sea beans in the last 40+ years. I can be at the beach within 2 hours by car. I was looking at a sea bean today and realized I have NO CLUE what kind of tree it comes from, how do I grow this big damn seed? I searched on YT & found your video first. Let's see what happens with my big beans... I'll report back if it works! I have a garden I work on everyday for fun. Half the stuff I grow are things I don't eat. It goes to my neighbors or my wild deer friends. I do it because I'm retired & love playing in the dirt to pass time... Thanks hoss!
Any follow-up on this video? It's been like 5 years, what happened with the plants? We often find these beans here in South Florida and always wondered what they turned into...
I'm would very much like you to follow that bean back in time across the water (you never know it may have been at that party in Jamaica a while back), through the sea of time to where and when the ritual took place that caused said bean to enter the water. Just a thought but would help my understanding.
I bought some seeds that look some like yours. The name of my seeds is Entada Rheedii or african dream bean which going by the name i would think will make one dream a lot if eaten.
So, do you know the fruit of the sea bean? Are they edible? What do they look like? Or - are you holding back so you have another topic for a video, hmmmmm?
It's not useful for any edible or medicinal purpose, so far as I know - and nailing down the exact species has proven impossible to me thus far; however, I am going to grow them and see what they do. For science!
They're not edible, apparently, but they're so beautiful I can't help but grow them. Puppets are a great idea. I already made them a simple mancala board.

Congratulations on the good find! And you bet. I start almost all of my leguminous trees the same way, via nicking and soaking. Hasn't failed me yet.

They make a most beautiful vine called "Jade vine", because it's flowers are colored turquoise.
That sounds great. I recorded their progress today and will post on Monday.
Thanks David!

Awesome!! I have done some myself. They got really big but they never went to seed and then died in the winter.

It's actually the same thing, they just go by sea beans
Sometimes I feel like a sea bean adrift in life. Where will I end up? ;)

Wow I've been looking for a sea bean by the name MUCUNA BENNETTII
STEVE ORTEZ The flowers of Mucuna Bennettii are a beautiful red orange color!
can you make a video update on the sea beans please?
Sea bean! Sea bean!
can you prune them to grow in to trees instead of vines?
I doubt it. They are super vigorous climbers.
👍🏻
Who doesn't like spreading their seed across the world? They should be called Genghis Khan Beans.
Nice

Ohh those are cool looking! No eats? No eats....
You could make acorn puppets with your children, instead of acorns. :D

Would make perfect eyes for a tropical snowman!
