I remember first hearing this version done and it was just mesmerizing and incredible! Cook’s rendition will always be a favorite and should have a place in history as one of the best covers ever done!
A cover of a cover, but the cover that David rips off was itself an original, done by an original. Chris Cornell's cover was a complete departure from MJ's classic, Chris brought his legendary pipes, and his great weariness and pain, bluesman that he was, and CREATED something new. David Cook's cover is more Chris Cornell Billie Jean karaoke than anything original. Unsurprising that the reality show beat has very little in the way of creative art happening, glorified karaoke that it all is. Big pipes do not a creative artist make. Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson, exceptions to the rule, came to the medium fully formed artists.
Bs. He couldn't possibly write his own arrangements for every song on Idol. He did his own for a couple. He has written many of his own songs before and after that show. That show doesn't define him

For me this is the most beautiful version of the song , very impressive performance !
Wow strong voice and best version ever ❤️
you're the one who came up with another style of Michael Jackson's song to bring a great.
One of my favorite versions...
This is a cover of a cover. It's David's cover of Chris Cornell's cover of the original.
Nothing will ever beat the original
Who's the guitar-man, Jeffrey B. Scott or Neal Tiemman? Great, the voice and that guitar...thrill me!
This was recorded during Idol (very quickly, like over a weekend!). Studio musicians.
Thanks for the answer!
I remembered the solo and came back for listen.. Exquisite.
"ThrillS" me, beg your pardon.
Late 2023 and this hit hard! Make DNA test mandatory at birth. The pain is palpable. My God!
