    From Wikipedia.
    In 1964, the Royal Air Force specified a requirement (Air Staff Target, AST, 362) for a new fast jet trainer to replace the Folland Gnat. The SEPECAT Jaguar was originally intended for this role, but it was soon realised that it would be too complex an aircraft for fast jet training and only a small number of two-seat versions were purchased. Accordingly, in 1968, Hawker Siddeley Aviation (HSA) began studies for a simpler aircraft, initially as special project (SP) 117. The design team was led by Ralph Hooper.[1]
    This project was funded by the company as a private venture, in anticipation of possible RAF interest. The design was conceived of as having tandem seating and a combat capability in addition to training, as it was felt the latter would improve export sales potential. By the end of the year HSA had submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Defence based on the design concept, and in early 1970 the RAF issued Air Staff Target (AST) 397 which formalised the requirement for new trainers of this type. The RAF selected the HS.1182 for their requirement on 1 October 1971 and the principal contract, for 175 aircraft, was signed in March 1972.[2][3]
    The prototype aircraft XX154 first flew on 21 August 1974 from Dunsfold piloted by Duncan Simpson, Chief Test Pilot of HSA (Kingston), reaching 20,000 ft in a flight lasting 53 minutes.[4] All development aircraft were built on production jigs; the program remained on time and to budget throughout.[5] The Hawk T1 entered RAF service in late 1976.[6] The first export Hawk 50 flew on 17 May 1976. This variant had been specifically designed for the dual role of lightweight fighter and advanced trainer; it had a greater weapons capacity than the T.1.[6]
    The RAF Red Arrows depart the 2014 Royal International Air Tattoo, England, in a colour scheme that commemorates their 50th year.
    More variants of the Hawk followed, and common improvements to the base design typically included increased range, more powerful engines, redesigned wing and undercarriage, the addition of radar and forward-looking infrared, GPS navigation, and night-vision compatibility.[7] Later models were manufactured with a great variety in terms of avionics fittings and system compatibility to suit the individual customer nation; cockpit functionality was often rearranged and programmed to be common to an operator's main fighter fleet to increase the Hawk's training value.[8]
    In 1981, a derivative of the Hawk was selected by the United States Navy as their new trainer aircraft. Designated the McDonnell Douglas T-45 Goshawk, the design was adapted to naval service and strengthened to withstand operating directly from the decks of carriers, in addition to typical land-based duties.[9] This T-45 entered service in 1994; initial aircraft had analogue cockpits, while later deliveries featured a digital glass cockpit. All airframes were planned to undergo avionics upgrades to a common standard.[10]

    Another good one! Nice work on the light lenses. Those lights really boost the realism of the model.

    just to add, Ive done something similar for RC planes, a budget version ;)
    With a wooden mould/piece, place it in a PET-plastic bottle (for example a used coke bottle) and put it in the oven, it will shrink and form around the wooden piece. Just thought I'd share, its a good trick, even though it might not be a good method for the very top of the line jet builds like Lighter Side Of RC is making... but for small, cheap, balsa planes, its sure it neat, and can make for a nice custom made moulded plastic piece :)

      Thanks for the tricks! Ultimately at the end of the day it's nice to have as many tricks and methods as possible. If I wanted to do it even better I could have used my vacuum molding machine but that would have required a blank to be made of each lens and this was quicker and easier.

    Hi jon, special congratulation for the custom wing light lenses! I would be so affraid to damage the wing with the heat if i had to do that! Of course you always have the best guy to help you, our friend trusty 👍👍. Pay a special attention with the heater gun, we knows a hotdog is always good but what about a hotcat? 🤣🤣👍👍.

    Hello Jonathan
    Once again you did a very good job on the jet and put a lot of your now-how into it. The fact that the parts (out of the box) do not fit as they should is very unpleasant. Keep up the good work.... Greetings to the cat

    Great work on the wings, Brings back memories of mine. I do remember that I had to get a new pipe from Skymaster for the use of my K 320 turbine. Anton or John mentioned that a larger turbine would need a different pipe. So they sent me a new pipe to handle K320 and it was indeed a different diameter at the back. Perhaps email Skymaster to confirm.

      @thelightersideofrc  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Sal. I questioned that as well and they confirmed that it is the pipe for the 300 that was included with the kit.

    Just enough complication to make it interesting. Quite a bit to the wings in the way of work. Liked the idea re the Nav lenses nice easy simple. One I dom like is the battery operated Heatgun by Millwalkee use it all the time. Nev er thought I would. Also liked the way the wing ailreon and Flap covers worked out. Keep at it now. Carry On.😁😎😷

      @@thelightersideofrcI have the 5ah ones lasts well over an hour on the new battery and about an hour on a slightly older one. Had a professional Sign and Vinyl person out who was out doing 1 to 1 scale Flying machine using old corded heatgun. I said try this she loved it. When she finished she said right off to buy 2 of those. Can,t get better than that.

    Seems like your lense making process works pretty well but vacuum formers are really easy to build and use. Just have to make a mold and then you'll always be able to recreate lenses for different models. Or in a case like this you can just use the piece of the fuse you cut out as the mold. Its pretty easy to make a professional looking part. Not to mention all the other parts you would be able to make in house

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  Рік тому

      Thanks Jake. Agree totally. I made a vacuum machine about 2 years ago so I could do lenses for my Aviation Design Diamond Build. On this one, because it's a one off I went the easier route.

      I pick it up in sheets from our local supplier called "Industrial Plastics and Paint". I can't remember the type of material but it was what they use for clear vacuum forming.
