  • The Exe Champagne Challenge is a "fun" race that takes place every September (but not this one).
"Moana" is a Wharram Tiki 30 owned by Rory McDougall.
We did the route of the race anyway, Exmouth - Brixham, and returned the next day.
    Date: 21st/22nd September 2019
Crew members were Simon and Jamie and Nick.

How wet is the boat if you're sailing to windward? Do you ge alot of water in your face when steering with moer wind?

It's not my boat so my experience of sailing it is fairly limited. However I have been out on it in 20+ knots and it seemed pretty dry, most spray blows to leeward. Plus the central pod provides shelter.

@@nickmartinxxx thanks for your reaction. There are two of these very interesting boats for sale. I'd like to do North Sea crossings ans would like to know how it behaves in windy conditions with waves. Could you ask the owner to comment?

Love the boat. Would you take the Tiki 30 Across the Atlantic? It looks like you used the straps like the Mana uses. Do think this is as or stronger than using lines? Thanks could you make some videos of the living accomodations in the hulls and pod.

Yes, it's a beautiful boat but it doesn't belong to me, I was just one of the crew, so can't promise any footage of inside. Sure, the owner, Rory McDougall, would be fine with taking it across the Atlantic. I think he plans to replace the inner webbing straps with convention lashings due to the higher stresses at these points. Hope that answers your questions.

I think an aluminium mast would be more durable, immune to rot.
