I think " I Knew You Were Waiting ( For Me ) " by Aretha Franklin and George Michael needs a major shout out because it truly is one of the greatest duets by two of the greatest vocalists of all time. This was the duet we didn't know we needed ..until we surprisingly got it. No one at the time could have imagined or thought of the Queen of Soul dueting with the pop superstar and growing icon George Michael...except thankfully the legendary producer Clive Davis. Their respective highly renowned strong vocals blended so beautifully together perfectly with great lyrics and the music... it was truly absolute gold.
@@BrandyStaples-d8l There is also when George sang " Love's In Need Of Love Today " with the legendary Stevie Wonder. George at only 21 impressed Stevie so much with his voice that he immediately gave George his permission to cover any of his songs . George would indeed later take advantage of having Stevie's blessing to do a awesome cover of " As " with Mary J. Blige. Stevie would habitually joke about his blindness and one was " What !...George Michael's white ? ! '' like he didn't know that fact whenever it was mentioned to underscore how much R&B flavor George had to his vocal's.
Honorable mention should go to “On My Own” by Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald. What’s even more remarkable is that they recorded their respective vocals three thousand miles apart! Michael in Los Angeles and Patti in New York City!
I met my husband in 1988 when I was 16 years old. We got married when I turned 18 after I graduated high school and were married for 28 years until he passed away three years ago. I always thought Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship was one of the cheesiest songs, but he loved it, and he always used to say it was our song. Now whenever I'm driving in my car and it plays on the radio or I'm in the grocery store and the song comes over the loudspeaker I sing it out loud and feel like my husband is with me 😊
It was on the soundtracks of many awesome brat pack 80s movies 😢. Your husband was a great man . That song was his reminder of your love and your lives together. He knew he has alot of people who said you guys were too young to make such a decision many thought you were gonna fail. But hahaha 28 years of awesomeness though he had to journey ahead of you remember that " nothings gonna stop you" he was always by your side and though he's gone he will always be by your side.
I met my second husband in 1969 in college. Don’t want to go into why we didn’t end up together then, too long to go into. We both married other people and I didn’t see him again for 16 years after my husband died at 37 and he was getting a divorce cause his cheated. In 1989, we married. We should have always been together and “Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now” was so appropriate as one of our two songs for our wedding. The other was, “ Heaven” by Brian Adams. Been married for 36 years, and he is my everything, wonderful man. We are in our 70’s now. So sorry we missed being together until our 40’s. We raised my 3 and his 2 kids together, it was difficult bringing our families together, but just like the song, nothing was going to stop us from being together this time!
Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville Don't Know Much (But I Know I Love You) is a beautiful love song. It's probably my favorite and Ms Ronstadt is my favorite female artist.
Oh boy. I took my 3.5 year old son to see that movie while my wife was Christmas shopping for him. When that song came on he tried so hard not to cry. The whole theater was full of little kids bawling their eyes out.
For those of us that are Peter Gabriel fans, we are also Kate Bush fans. Those of us that are Kate Bush fans are also Peter Gabriel fans. Great pairing, great tune, of course. “Don’t Give Up” is unique to both artists.
What Have I Done to Deserve This by Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield is such an amazing song and duet that you should really talk about especially since it helped restart Dusty’s career and the history behind the song is fascinating.
some songs are judged by how high they chart, some by how much money they earn. But this song is usually judged by how many teenagers in the 80s lost their virginity while it was playing.
Made SOOO much better by the intimacy of the love affair between them. Of course, made more poignant by Nicks' "Sara" about the failed affair and their child that she aborted. She never had another.
Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - (i've Had) The Time of My Life. The contrast in their voices and how well they blend is amazing. Plus it’s a fun positive song 😁
I'm surprised that it wasn't #1. Chuck out "Don't Give Up" and "Nothing's Going to Stop Us" since it's a single band/group, move "Under Pressure" to #2, and have "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" at #3, and then you have a great list. Add in "Islands in the Stream" and "Somewhere Out There" as honorable mentions to make this an awesome list.
I know this will be controversial but 'Islands in the Stream' will always be a touchstone for 1980s radio and two of the most unique voices across several genres
It’s a great song but I wouldn’t consider it one of the best of that time because, when I hear it, I hear the Bee Gees much more than I hear Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth, David Bowie and Bing Crosby. I've been listening to that at Christmas time my whole life. ❤ Not exactly 80s but will always be my favorite. 80s kid here.
Crosby HATED doing it when he found out about Bowie’s sexuality just before they recorded it. While he himself was an abusive drunk, he apparently drew the line at bisexuality! He was a pro but hated every minute of it.
"Under Pressure" is one of those songs you can listen to, over and over again, and never tire of it -- A true 80's classic! Many years ago, someone had posted a track of only Freddie and David's voices (no instruments, just the studio voice recordings) -- all I can say is 'WOW!' It was refreshing to hear their pure raw voices, no enhancers or modifiers, just clean, raw, powerful voices -- incredible!
My mother saw Belushi on SNL and thought it was Cocker--and she was a RABID Joe Cocker fan. She once met him after a show and asked for his autograph and took my brother's expensive fancy art pen for it. Cocker signed, decided he liked the pen, and kept it. She demanded it back and his bodyguard stepped in front of her and told her that if Joe wants it, he can have it.
Barry Gibb and Barbara Streisand duet on a song called "Guilty" from her album of the same name is one of my favorites. BTW I love opposites attract, lol!
Some of my favorites: Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin - Separate Lives - 1985; Philip Bailey & Phil Collins - Easy Lover - 1984; Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram - Somewhere Out There - 1986. Just a few faves!
Oh man, I'm a 69 year old grandma and David Bowie and Freddie Mercury are 2 of my all time favorites. AND Under Pressure is one of my all time favorite songs.
I always wondered if this song would’ve improved if Wilson and Reno had switched parts in the chorus. It bothered me that the much-stronger voice was singing harmony.
A lesser known classic from 1978...Stumblin' In...a guy I never heard of Chris Norman and Leather Tuscadero of Happy Days Suzie Quatro...am I the only one who remembers this great duet?
The live version on youtube is awesome, such chemistry between them. Suzi Quatro really stepped out of her box on that one, one of the greatest duets ever.
My Top 5 Duets or Collaborations 5. Elton John and George Michaels Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. 4. Ann Wilson and Mike Reno Almost Paradise 3. Elton John and Kiki Dee Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2. Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty Stop Draggin My Heart Around 1B. Multiple Artist We Are The World. 1A. Ozzy and Lita Ford Close My Eyes Forever
I worked for my dad framing and remodeling homes in the richest part of Dallas, The Park Cities as they are called. We would eat lunch at a small Dairy Queen, a small hole in the wall, just across the street from the SMU campus. They had a juke box and I would play Under Pressure every single day we were there eating. That song should have landed at number one back then in my opinion. David Bowie and Freddy Mercury paired together like a good giant Idaho potato and a Texas T-bone steak. This song was pure magic for me and from two of my favorite artists. It seems those times have faded off into the distant past somewhere, but then the Professor of Rock revitalizes it and brings it back to life. Thank You Professor Thank You
In my opinion, I think all five were excellent choices, Professor. I would probably would have put “Up Where We Belong” as #1, but your five choices hit the nail on the head!
@@1796Patriot As much as I love Tom Petty, I think her duet with Kenny Logins (Whenever I Call You Friend) is a stronger duet. Both of them challenged each other.
Loggins and Nicks. "Whenever I Call You Friend" Singing along on full volume while car dancing is just such a happy moment of music for me. I think it came out in 77 or 78 though. Not sure? I would have been 7 or 8 at the time. It just makes me super happy, ok?😊😊😊❤😊😊😊 "Don't Give Up" was such a beautiful and magical moment in history. ❤❤❤❤ Most incredible and perfect choice for #1. I can't imagine it being anything else.❤
So many great duets in the 80s, but the "Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing and "After All" with Cher and Peter Cetera are always two that immediately come to mind.
Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. It seems a lot of folks think it belongs on the list. I was surprised it was not your number two.
Faith No More's Mike Patton and their keyboardist Roddy Bottum covered that live and it is on youtube. Even though they are a metal band they have covered a lot of pop songs.
"So 80's, it hurts!" 😆 Love it! Yes, as soon as he said, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," I immediately thought of "Mannequin." Now, I want to watch that movie again.
@@analuisahering2043 Hollywood and Rambo were the best parts of that movie. Not taking away from any of the other actirs... Spader and Getty are amazing in everything they do (no one does corporate evil like James with the Boston Lockjaw accent). But Meshach and that dog stole every scene they were in.
@@jpack85 my niece and I played this EVERY SATURDAY and SUNDAY when my dad took us to his favorite diner that he'd been going to for many years (he became friends with the owners and all of the waitresses, too). As soon as we came in, our favorite waitress Chris would yell to the whole diner "Coffee George is here with the girls!"😂😂😂 Everyone knew to expect to hear this duet and a few other favorites at least 3 times. Lol! Wonderful memories, and thank you for reminding me of those times. 😘💖🫂👏👏👏
Don't Give Up is such a tender song. I've listened to it thousands of times when I've felt like giving up and sung to others when they've felt the same. I love the way they embrace each other and the symbolism of the eclipse in the background. Damn. I'm crying now
I'd forgotten just how powerful Kate's performance and the video is. You can't just casually watch the video, it's mesmerising. I was so envious of Peter Gabriel when I saw that video back when it came out.
Kate Bush was PERFECT with Peter Gabriel. Remember, she sang the chorus "Jeux sans frontières" on his top 10 hit (except in the US of course) "Games Without Frontiers" from his 3rd solo album "Peter Gabriel" in 1980.
Although not a duet, I have to mention my favorite trio because I suspect there aren't enough of those to warrant their own category. This trio is called The Trio, comprised of multi-genre musical titans Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and Dolly Parton. Their 1987 cover of "Those Memories of You," a tune first made popular by bluegrass and country legend Bill Monroe in 1950, combines tight harmonies and traditional instrumentation into a perfectly authentic recreation of the old, classic country sound that---even before 1987---had nearly vanished from country radio. Due to Linda's illness, we won't get to hear these voices together again this side of heaven. In the meantime, I'll keeping going back to those memories, my memories of these wonderful artists, to tide me over.
@@ProfessorofRock Hey, Adam! You brought up that this song was inspired by the jumper incident. There is actually another song that Peter Gabriel did about the incident that's even more sad than this one. It's called Home Sweet Home. It's about a struggling family where the wife and son jump out of the window because of financial hopelessness. Despondent, the guy takes the life insurance money and bets it all in a gamble. He ends up winning big, and has all the money he would ever need... but no family to share it with.
Leather and Lace holds a specific memory for me. My older brother, who had already been through one marriage and a nasty divorce finally found someone. When his fiance' was coming down the aisle with her father, instead of the traditional bridal march a string quartet played a magnificent arrangement of Leather and Lace. Just recalling it brings tears. Made more poignant by my brother's untimely death in 2009. The power of music made manifest.
Was thinking of her for this and Tom Petty on Stop Dragging My Heart Around. Also, not 80’s, but one of my favorites ever is a Stevie with Kenny Loggins, Whenever I Call You Friend.
If there's one song guaranteed to make me cry, it's "Don't Give Up". Even the few seconds you played there of the track and the video, had this grown man welling-up. It's so inspiring and beautiful. They make a perfect pair, although I can see how it might also have worked with Dolly's voice.
Kate Bush was PERFECT with Peter Gabriel. Remember, she sang the chorus "Jeux sans frontières" on his top 10 hit (except in the US of course) "Games Without Frontiers" from his 3rd solo album "Peter Gabriel" in 1980.
I'd mention "Separate Lives" by Marilyn Martin and Phil Collins (surely one of the best), "Easy Lover" by the two Phils (Collins and Bailey), and an oft forgotten one "On My Own" by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald. Others have mentioned some of my other suggestions, so I'll leave it there.
Separate Lives was down right depressing. It may have toped Against All Odds for the most depressing Collins song. Don't get my wrong it was a great song, but if I listened to it too many times I think I would skydiving without a chute.
Fun list, but “Endless Love” needs the boot in favor of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, “Leather or Lace”, or “If I Close My Eyes Forever”. Take your pick.
Endless Love it is, growing up I heard that song everyday and at every wedding and singing competition until Whitney Houston made her way into public consciousness.
I enjoyed your list of duet selections, but I'd like to mention two Peter Cetera duets from the '80s. "The Next Time I Fall In Love" (1986). A duet with Amy Grant "After All" (1989). His duet with Cher
The duet came after Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand each recorded it separately in the same key. A DJ mashed them together and suggested the record it together as a trued duet. They did and the rest is history
Dont give up is an amazingly inspirational song. This collection of songs got me thru when my grandfather was dying, when I was in my early 20s. He was dying of gamgrene, and it was a 9 month long process. Im tearing up just remembering that time in my life. I'd visit my grandfather 2 times a week and beg him to get his leg amputated. He always refused. Arthrosclerosis. Finally, one day, he said that he had the same pains in his arms, so are the doctor's going to amputate those next? And then he confessed he also had the same pains in his head, so then what? I had to finally concede my gramps would be gone. The docs said 3 months, but somehow, he made nearly 9 months, and still, when he finally passed, I was devastated. I listened to "So" during that time while driving home, the long way, down dark country roads all while bawling my brains out. Sigh. That song, Mercy Street, Red Rain, and In Your Eyes still gets me in the feels. That song was also my first introduction to Kate Bush, of whom I also became a big fan.
Professor, I eat this stuff up when you talk about chart performances being a teenager in the 70s. I was a huge fan of Casey Kasem’s American top 40. Thank you for your videos trivia and interviews. I love it.
Of all the songs on your best duets in music history, the only song I can agree with is your (and mine, too) number one selection, Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure. I can remember starting my 10th grade year. Reconnecting with my friends (most of them had spent the summer abroad), listening to what they recorded off the radio where THEY’D been, discussing each other’s summer adventures when Under Pressure starts to play on the stereo. We’d been listening to each other’s mix tapes while talking. I stopped mid sentence and just LISTENED! After 20 secs, I ask her “who’s playing?!” “David Bowie AND Queen!” My eyes widened and my mouth just DROPPED! “Wait! They did a song TOGETHER??” I was ENTHRALLED!! I first heard David Bowie sing when I was in 8th grade and had become a HUGE FAN! Then, I remember hearing Queen sing from my same friend. She had played me Night At the Opera the year before. So when she told me who was singing, we both just LOST IT!! LOL, those were the days… Under Pressure has been a NUMBER ONE FAVORITE SONG ever since! And yes, I was FURIOUS that the base line for my FAVORITE SONG was now being played for some UGH RAP SONG! Uncredited, and scarring me FOE LIFE! Now, because both songs start the same, I HAVE TO WAIT before I change the channel! Yeah, I cannot STAND that rip off of a song!! To this day, whenever I stumble onto a station playing that TERRIBLE song, I say under my breath “What a JOKE!” And then change the channel! LMAO… NAH, I’m not that judgmental, I’m just STILL PISSED OFF that some construction worker who had dreams of being a… Rap star? RUINED MY FAVORITE SONG! LMAO!! Oh, and Don’t Give Up also lives on my Favorite songs list..
Best: Queen & Bowie-it has held up over the years. I find something new each time I hear it. There is never a bad time to listen to it. It has never gotten old. I love it!❤❤❤❤ Worst: You don’t bring me flowers-ugh, it even hurts to write it.🌪️☠️
Theres a movie from last year called Aftersun that I can't recommend enough. It has Under Pressure on the soundtrack in a very critical scene and it deploys it to absolutely devastating effect.
Leather and lace Don Henley Stevie Nicks. I haven't heard the list yet but I hope it's there. Also Endless Love, Almost Paradise, On My Own, Under Pressure. Whenever I call you Friend.... so many great duets in the 80's probably the best decade for duets. Surprise the 80's were the best for so many genres. Can't wait to hear your list.
I was very lucky to see ‘Don’t Give Up’ in one of its very few live performances by the original artists, at Earl’s Court in London on a Peter Gabriel tour. A rather pregnant-looking Kate came on as the intro played to rapturous applause. I’d seen Peter Gabriel a few times, with Genesis and solo, but this was the one and only time I saw Kate Bush play live.
Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now… My and my daughters song. ❤️ She was about 6 at the time. We would ride the greyhound bus together every two weeks or so, stopping midway for lunch. A jukebox in the restaurant, she always picked this song. I changed the word lovers to love when I sang it. Still do. This precious memory will forever be treasured by us both. 19th birthday, she was able to come into bar that I dj-ed in. I put on the song, we danced and cried. Sweet memories…
The 80s had the best duets. Stevie Nicks had two great duets. Never Let You Go, The Time of My Life, Seperate Lives, Baby Come to Me, Almost Paradise, On My Own and a curve ball with two guys Easy Lover.
My #1 duet of the 80's has to be "Don't Give Up". When it came out, I was first blown away by Kate's vocal. Ugly American that I am, I had never heard of her. Then every time I played the song, an uplifting peace overcame me. I was the afternoon DJ at a local radio station, and I got in trouble for playing it out of the Program Director's rotation. So for a couple of days, I had to play it in rotation. Evidently enough calls came in, missing it, that he came in and moved it to the top of the rotation, where it played more often throughout the day. This song has seen me through some pretty tough times. When I hear it, that peace still overcomes me.
My choices for Top 5 Duets from The 80s!! 1) Meet Me In Montana by Dan Seals and Marie Osmond!! I don't know why this song wasn't a HUGE crossover hit!! I played it for my Pop music loving friends and they always loved it!! 2) Islands In The Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton!! Another song everyone loves!! 3) You and I by Eddie Rabbit and Crystal Gayle!! A perfect wedding song!! 4) Don't Fight It by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry!! Two powerful voices working together!! 5) I Couldn't Say No by Robert Ellis Orral and Carlene Carter!! The best duet no one has ever heard!! Those are my choices!! Please don't criticize them!! You don't have to like them!! I just wanted to share my opinion!! Have an amazing weekend Professor Of Rock!! Cindy Snow
Love love love Under Pressure. Few that would have made my list: Don't Fight It - Loggins/Perry I Knew You Were Waiting - Michael/Franklin Ive Had The Time Of My Life - Medley/Warren It's Only Love - Adams/Turner You've Got The Look - Prince/Easton What Have I Done To Deserve This - Pet Shop Boys/Springfield With Starship on the list, sort of open the door to groups? Could toss out quite a few there.
@@nelrock3641 I love your list, and you're right, if we're doing bands there's going to be a LOT of duet types of songs. I'm wracking my brain but I KNOW there's at least one with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac.
Great list. Somebody has to mention Aretha and Annie Lennox. Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves. And didn't Sheena Easton duet with Bob Seger? We've Got Tonight. Thanks people and Professor for the twists and turns down memory lane.
@williamcalderini6370 ohhh yeahhh. I LOVE The Chain! Honestly, I don't think I've heard a Fleetwood Mac song that I don't like. Grew up with them since my older sister started buying their albums way back. 💖💖
“I’m cuude, I’m cude! She said I’m cuuude!” - Rudolph so happy he starts flying … just before his “coach” embarrasses and abuses him. Love that TV special, and especially the lovely “There’s always tomorrow.” But wow, it shines a light on the normalization of abuse and bullying at the time. We’ve made some progress, but not enough, IMO.
I adore Don’t Give Up. It’s so moving and bleak. It suits both those singers perfectly. The 80’s saw a very hard time in Aus with 12% unemployment. There were a few protest songs recording that time. The line with him standing on the bridge is powerful. Under Pressure is wonderful. The beat is perfect. Freddie’s voice soars.
There are many duets from the 80s that I love ("Solid" by Ashford and Simpson, "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey, "Dancin' in the streets" by Mick Jagger and David Bowie), but the one that always blew me away, because I never expected it, and that grabbed my attention and forced it to focus on the voices and emotions of the singers was "Sisters are doin' it for themselves". A modern anthem for women where the incomparable Aretha Franklin worked together with Annie Lennox and David Stewart to create magic. I loved that song as a child who didn't understand the English language for the energy it brought, the same way I love "Solid" for being so comforting and reassuring and of course "Don't give up" which you've already mentioned. But when I turned older and learned English... that's when the song took on a whole new dimension for me.
Ok this is a subject I can really get behind. I love duets! I’ve put together a playlist of just duets, and include ones that I don’t even care for. I am particularly fond of Don’t Give Up, it’s an incredibly moving song that always makes me cry. Simply beautiful. And I absolutely agree with your opinion regarding the worst one! I hated that song when it came out (high school for me) and could never understand why it was so popular. This right here was a great video! Thanks Professor!
Vanilla Ice trying to explain how "Ice Ice Baby" was NOT a rip-off from "Under Pressure" is still one of the most diabolical interview segments I've ever seen. 😳👀😂😭
It’s not so much a duet as a guest cameo but Aimee Mann singing on “Time Stands Still” from Rush is one of my favorites. I had my first kiss as this song was playing. Brings back GREAT memories.
I knew #2 was going to be nothing's gonna stop us now. And I have never pretended not to like it. I love it. Listen to it regularly and, in fact, scream it at the top of my lungs.
"The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes "Don't Know Much" - Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville "Everything You Do (You're Sexing Me)" - Fiona & Kip Winger (kinda sorta similar to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around") Honorable mention: "Candy" by Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson, written in 1989 and released the following year
Endless love, ugh! You have no idea how much it took for me not to immediately leave this video like I always changed radio stations back when Endless Song was incessantly played. This is a testament to how great your videos are! BTW Up Where We Belong is classic beauty and beast match up perhaps only surpassed by the incredible duets by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
My favorite duets from the 80s 1) Don’t Fight It by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry 2) Almost Paradise by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson 3) Secret Lovers by Atlantic Star
The first album I ever had my parents get for me was the Starship album with that song on it. I played the hell out of it. I'm suprised that cassette tape is still here. Yes, I still have it.
I am 80 and was at Woodstock, well the week after😢😢. But just to be on that history making property was enough. I knew the older lady who owned the property, she was my landlord. She was proud to have a part in history. Mrs. Fliesher I love you❤❤❤

For those of us that are Peter Gabriel fans, we are also Kate Bush fans. Those of us that are Kate Bush fans are also Peter Gabriel fans. Great pairing, great tune, of course. “Don’t Give Up” is unique to both artists.
Rock on!
Hate to break it to you but not all Kate Bush fans are Peter Gabriel fans.
@ And you’re perfectly correct. Not my point at all. By no means do I mean each and every single person.
They are exactly our type and we will continue listening to them until we die.
Hard to believe that Dolly Parton was first choice for Kate's part!
What Have I Done to Deserve This by Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield is such an amazing song and duet that you should really talk about especially since it helped restart Dusty’s career and the history behind the song is fascinating.
Very good song

"Since you went away, I've been hangin' around..." Such a good song 😁

I concur…we weren’t worthy of that duo…still not🤭
The quiet, intimate tenderness of "Leather and Lace" by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley.
I couldn't agree more, love this song!
@NorthernKitty: agreed! It’s one of my favourites!
some songs are judged by how high they chart, some by how much money they earn. But this song is usually judged by how many teenagers in the 80s lost their virginity while it was playing.
Great great song!
Plus it’s a fun positive song 😁
shocked this didn't make the list, I think its better than all of these besides Under Pressure, you forget how beautiful Jennifer's voice is.

Excellent choice.Written by the Bee Gees
That was one of "the songs" to have back when it was first released. I remember recording it off the radio to my cassette player!

My favorite!!
Crosby HATED doing it when he found out about Bowie’s sexuality just before they recorded it. While he himself was an abusive drunk, he apparently drew the line at bisexuality!
He was a pro but hated every minute of it.

...&... from 1986 - Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald "On My Own"
Me too- One of the best ever!
I love those vocal-isolated tracks.
I agree 💯. It's a great song, and one I can listen to over and over again. Never get tired of hearing it.

@ just means he was a good sport.

Mike Reno (Loverboy) and Ann Wilson (Heart) "Almost Paradise" from Footloose

I always wondered if this song would’ve improved if Wilson and Reno had switched parts in the chorus. It bothered me that the much-stronger voice was singing harmony.

Yup!
My fav duet of the 80's: "With You I'm Born Again" - Billy Preston and Syreeta

As I once read on Pitchfork about “Under Pressure”: “a song so awesome, even Vanilla Ice couldn’t kill it”.

"After All" (1989). His duet with Cher

Ive Had The Time Of My Life - Medley/Warren
It's Only Love - Adams/Turner
You've Got The Look - Prince/Easton
What Have I Done To Deserve This - Pet Shop Boys/Springfield
With Starship on the list, sort of open the door to groups?
@MarleneJonesCannon YES! Aretha and Annie.
You're also right about Sheena and Seger.
I can't believe I've forgotten so many wonderful duets!
@@badkitty4922 The Chain for one. (Off the top of my head)
@williamcalderini6370 ohhh yeahhh. I LOVE The Chain!
Honestly, I don't think I've heard a Fleetwood Mac song that I don't like.
Grew up with them since my older sister started buying their albums way back. 💖💖
I can watch Rudolph anytime, I own it on Bluray, LOL! Never forget "Bumbles Bounce!"
I have Abominable slippers 😂
Good selection! I was surprised that Islands in the Stream wasn't in there, but there are so many duets out there that it's hard to pick just five.
That's true!
....I smell a Part 2, cominnnnnn' ...... ; )
One other honorable mention I'd add is Tears for Fears, featuring Oleta Adams, Woman in Chains. Something about that one just hits me in the feels.
Love this song!
Yes!!
This whole video makes me want to do a whole 80’s week for of movies and music. You really couldn’t find a better decade to have lived!
Vanilla Ice trying to explain how "Ice Ice Baby" was NOT a rip-off from "Under Pressure" is still one of the most diabolical interview segments I've ever seen. 😳👀😂😭
He definitely would have had more fun hugging Dolly for the length of the song.
Ha ha ha!
.....boing! ....No, make that, *BOING-BOING!* ....ha-HAA!
Ahh, you don't give Kate proper credit sir....babooshka?
😂😂😂😂
It’s not so much a duet as a guest cameo but Aimee Mann singing on “Time Stands Still” from Rush is one of my favorites. I had my first kiss as this song was playing. Brings back GREAT memories.
Friends and Lovers by Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring (Robin Thicke’s mom) is a forgotten duet gem. Featured on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.
That song made it to #2 on the Hot 100 but you never hear it anymore. Hard not to sing along with it.
I love Don't Give Up!!! I always listen to it when I get depressed. Really lifts the spirits.
I knew #2 was going to be nothing's gonna stop us now. And I have never pretended not to like it. I love it. Listen to it regularly and, in fact, scream it at the top of my lungs.
Kate Bush is everything! Thank you for including this in your list. ❤
"The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes
"Don't Know Much" - Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville
"Everything You Do (You're Sexing Me)" - Fiona & Kip Winger (kinda sorta similar to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around")
Honorable mention: "Candy" by Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson, written in 1989 and released the following year
Your tastes are MUCH MORE aligned that the "Professor" on this one... I cannot say that I even cared for his top two picks
@@glenmcdonald375 At least he didn't include "Ebony and Ivory."
@Sebakeng Thank Goodness! Lol
One of my favorite songs is “Almost Paradise” by Mike Reno (Loverboy) and Ann Wilson (Heart).
It's so good!
"Don't Give Up" is such a moving song. Brilliant vocals by Kate Bush. Heartfelt. Pleading.
if you remember drawing naughty bits on an etch-a-sketch, this channel is for you.
Ha ha. Definitely !
...hell, I drew naughty bits on the FRIDGE! ....'cause I broke me Etch-A-Sketch, to get to the SAND! ...ha-HAAA!
I broke my Etch because I wanted to make thermite. I was successful and I was a very scary kid.
Nope, I don't think I ever did that. I guess I'm boring. lol
@@MomLAUI was too busy trying to make a perfect star 🌟
“Easy Lover” - Phil Collins & Phillip Bailey
My favorite duets from the 80s
1) Don’t Fight It by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry
2) Almost Paradise by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson
3) Secret Lovers by Atlantic Star
I love don’t give up, it seems to really pull at my heart every time I hear it. And their voices are just so amazing and cries pain
The first album I ever had my parents get for me was the Starship album with that song on it. I played the hell out of it. I'm suprised that cassette tape is still here. Yes, I still have it.
A journey back to the 80s? Count me in! I'll bring sandwiches, let me find my Swatch watch and I'll pick you up in my DeLorean.
Or the British version; I’ll pick you up in my Sierra Cossie and we can listen to the music through my Pioneer stereo cassette player
You had me at "sandwiches."
I am so IN!
@@stephenbrown4211 Ha ha
@@Whisper_292 Same!
Thank you. I love Starship’s “Nothing’s Going to Stop Us Now”. I’m also glad they swapped parts. Grace Slick was able to show off her powerful voice.
Paradise by the Dashboard Light!!!!!!!! On the cheesy end, I've Had the Time of My Life.
And time of my life is also Jennifer Warnes.
I am 80 and was at Woodstock, well the week after😢😢. But just to be on that history making property was enough. I knew the older lady who owned the property, she was my landlord. She was proud to have a part in history. Mrs. Fliesher I love you❤❤❤
Don't Give Up. Sensitive but not cheesy. I could listen to those two singers all day.
