RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to play all the cards in your stock pile. Shuffle the deck. In a 2-4 player game deal 30 cards to each player, in a 5-6 player game deal 20. For a shorter game, deal each player 10 cards instead. These cards are your stock, and remain facedown except for the first card, which is flipped face up and put on top of the stock. The remaining cards are set in the center of the table and become the draw deck.
There are 4 available building piles that all players use in the center of the table. The building piles must be started with a 1, then ascend sequentially to 12. A skip-bo card is a wild and may be used as any number. When a building pile reaches 12 it is set aside and reshuffled with all other completed building piles into the draw deck when the draw deck runs out of cards.
Each player has 4 available discard piles. At the end of your turn you discard 1 card to any of the 4 spots. Sequential order does not matter in your discard, and you may discard cards however you like amongst your 4 discard piles.
The youngest player goes first. At the start of each of your turns draw until you have 5 cards in your hand. You may play cards from your hand… stock… or personal discard piles each turn. Anytime you play all 5 cards from your hand, immediately draw 5 more. At the end of your turn, when you can’t or choose not to play, you discard 1 card from your hand to any one of your discard piles. If this results in you now having 0 cards in your hand, you do not draw 5 more but end your turn.
The first player to play all the cards in their stock pile wins… Or you may wish to play several games and keep score. The winner of each round receives 25 points for winning, plus 5 additional points for every card in every opponent’s stock pile. The first player to reach 500 points wins.
Alternately you can play with partners. Partners are allowed to play cards from both player’s stock and discard piles, however they may not discuss moves. When you are playing your partner must keep quiet. The first team to play all the cards in both partner’s stock piles wins.
Youngest player goes first is all i learned from this.

True 😂
Played this for the first time in well over a decade the other night, glad we were playing correctly because instructions were not very clear and it took us a while
My mother and I and one of her friends had a couple of friends over for dinner one night. We tried playing this game but we stopped trying to figure out how to play because it was a lot more complicated then we all thought. So that's why we all have decided to just stick the UNO card games
Everyone says DOS is hard to learn while they haven't even seen skip. bo
Most confusing game to learn EVER. I've read instructions 3 times and watched this video and I still have no idea what to do.
Danielle Rees lol this is my favorite card game. He goes a little fast explaining but it's pretty easy. I play it with my 6 year old son. Try a different tutorial
I hope you've figured it out? Come on over and I can teach you, if you haven't. :) (It's super fun)
Seriously? It's my favorite game
Danielle Rees ua-cam.com/video/-Gi-aGxZ_-8/v-deo.html
Same
This was marvelously short and to the point. The rules that come with the game are 'sketchy'
I still can't figure out how to play the game. Maybe I'm just too dumb.
Read instructions and showed this video to several people, still makes no sense to anyone. Something must be missing that would make the game into something a person would do recreationally.
+dennis garber Watched again, makes less sense. Off now for alternative uses for the cards.
This was not a great explanation
I’m still confused
Me too help me
Great instructions!! I played this game years ago. This put everything back in my head. Thanks!!
This is THE ACTUAL way to play skip bo, but whenever I go on youtube and look up how to play skip bo, they ave over 5 different ways of playing... But this is the way I play it
Based on a game you can play with two traditional playing card decks known as "Spite & Malice," where aces are low (1), queens are high (12), and kings are wild cards (Skip Bo).
Great! I have these kind of cards 😏😀😏😃😏😄😏😁
@@DarknessCorrupts Then you'll have no problems.
This is literally like kings in the a corner now that I think about it.
@@eligreg99That is true. You now got me thinking the same thing.
@@eligreg99Actually no. KITC uses alternating black/red suits. You also can move the four non-king piles around to the king corners. There's also no WILD cards in KITC. And you have no discard piles in your personal tableau(you have actually NO tableau). And you start with seven cards, in your hand, and no personal stockpile as you do in Skip Bo. So, please tell me in what way this is literally Kings in the Corner, please? 😅
Totally confused but thanks for the super detailed information
Bro is really happy to explain this game
This is a perfect explanation! Kudos sir! I’m sure all the votes down are from people who don’t get it but you can’t be responsible for people’s cognitive levels! Thanks for the refresher!
This game was so fun!
I played Skippy (as we called it) for about 2 solid years of college (the 80's) with 3 other dudes but I'll be damned if I remember playing it like this. Actually I don't remember the rules we the used but we did have fun. This seems like a lot of extra as my kids would say.
Thank you so much for this! Second time I've came back and used this video 💚
So if the youngest player doesn't have a 1 or Skip-Bo to start with then they just discard like any other time in the game when you cannot make a play.
We play a variation called the RV version (learned at an RV park): 2 rows start with a #1 card and count upwards, 2 rows start with a #12 card and count downwards. Makes it a bit more challenging to keep track of.
Thank you this was war more helpful then the games directions
Awesome job! This was super helpful in reminding us how to play after being a little rusty. Thanks so much 😊
I’d rather step on LEGO!!!😩
😂😂😂
What if the draw pile runs out completely? This happens all the time? Do we just continue without drawing, until one table pile reaches 12 and then shuffle them to play with those few again?
Yes, that’s what you do
Reshuffles
I remember I used to be brilliant at this game when I was a child.
Now I don't get it at all 😐
Same, wtf. I used to play it all the time as a kid. Now I'm confused as to how to play 🤦🏻♀️
Same I also used to play it when I was a kid now I don't get it 😂😆
God bless
Plot twist: The Grown Ups
Let y'all win.
thank you for this it's really easy to follow! I enjoyed playing! 👍
what is the point of four discard piles if the order of the cards don't matter
You can only take the top card
So if you have a skip discarded and wanna use it next turn
Best explanation yet.
Thank you, I think I’m gonna crush this game now !!
Update it didn’t go well 😢
The cards in the middle everyone plays on…do you have the play the same color or do you match the numbers only and don’t worry about what color is previously played.
Numbers only, going from 1 to 12
The colors play no role at all. In my game, all cards with 1 are blue, all 12s red, etc. There are several different colors of cards but all cards with the same number are the same color.
Yes, I only understood this because I've played the game before. I bought it after not having played it for years, read the instructions, and that is why I'M here!! Try another video....it's a really fun game!
Can you slow down your explaining it to fast...
L. Shields you can slow the video down by clicking on the 3 dots at the top right corner of the video - selecting the playback speed option - selecting an option above 1

I, just started playing this and I've become a fan of skip bo
So what pile you made at 1:23 ? Where do the cards go when you can't play more than 1?
Yo, I have that game that I first played with my Nanna and then got it. This game is fun, and it could be used with normal cards do, with say the kings being a skipbo or something.
Just got this game! I'm going to wait till I can think a little better to understand it, but the comments of this video make the game like 100% better! lol
Okay but the way he shuffled the decks 😌😌
I give up
+Arboga Jim :(
Ok we are playing Uno i guess
Not quite .
So when it comes back to ur turn and let’s say u have 4 cards left from ur last turn to I draw another one to make it 5 or do I play with my other cards until I run out
I am a Hands-On learner not, really a visual learner. I have to play the game, as it goes for me to know how to play while someone demonstrates.🤣
That makes sense, a lot of people are that way
Great, short tutorial. Thanks.
I got this first try 6 years later 🤷♂️ smart 😗
Thanks nerdy dude. We are opening a brand new deck from the 80s now.
That’s rude
You shoulda called him Jim.
One thing I have realised is that there is no specific saying is you can put cards from the stock pile onto the discard pile is that allowed ??
ok you have 4 personal discard piles,,,how many cards per pile? why do you need four instead of one?
gypsy269 I would like to know this as well
As many as you put there. The more piles, the more potential cards you have to play.
4 is just what the game allows because you cannot use a card in the pile until you've used the last one you've placed in that pile kindve similar to solitaire. It forces you to think strategically.
what if the youngest doesn't have a 1?
are we only allowed to draw the cards at the top of the personal discard piles? what if i want to pick the card at the bottom of a discard pile?
what about drawing from the stockpile? do we only get to draw one card every turn?
the youngest player starts first but what about the next player? does the next player have to be the second youngest?
what if the draw deck runs out of cards before any of the building piles reaches 12?
Tips for players:turn the whole stock pile so when a card in it is played the next card will be revealed
It was a clear concise explanation but my elderly client and I are still both confused lol
The last time I played this I was in jail lmaoooo
Love the game 😊
When do you yell skip bo? B4 how many cards
So is the skip Bo card just a plain wild card? Or can it be used to skip up to a number u may need?? 🤔
No, it can only be used as the next number in the sequence of a Building pile - you can't 'skip up' to get rid of, say, a 12 when the pile is only up to 8.
How did you put 7 green gard on a 10 red card in your discard piles?
My mom and I played this together today for the first time, we both really liked it! I was worried it would be too complicated for my mom, especially after reading the comments about people saying it was confusing, but we both quickly got into it after just a few turns. Can't wait to play it again on Family Game Night when we have more players.
I can’t believe that I just got the game skip Bo explained by Neville Longbottom
We played just like this, four players. The highest pile we managed to build was to number 4, and then we were out of cards from the draw pile. No one could continue.
My family just had the exact same problem.
I LOVE playing skip bo with my grandma
This game was so fun! That is great~
I learnt this game in the 2DS in a DS game. I liked it.
0:42 into it, already quit.
I remembered how to play now just bought the game a few days ago. I haven't played it since 2004
This game has poorly written rules and makes it confusing. This video made it so much simpler.
i remember playing this with my brother we didnt know how to play so we just tried to play it like uno 😭
So both my wife and i read numerous times the rules that came with the "game". None of us could actually understand how to play...
So i turned to youtube, and it confused me even more. Well at least i have bunch of new Skip Bo coasters now.
Jad Ben ua-cam.com/video/-Gi-aGxZ_-8/v-deo.html
tmi dude
you talk so much
This game should be targeted more for adults because of how complicated it sounds I just do not know how kids are going to understand how to play it. Because my mother and I and one of her friends had a couple of friends over for dinner one night. We tried playing this game but we stopped trying to figure out how to play because it was a lot more complicated then we all thought. So that's why we all have decided to just stick the UNO card games
Discard one per turn. Start with a discard. Until someone puts down a1 or skip Bo the piles in the middle don’t start. You have four separate discard piles in front of you that are yours. So every turn you have can start a new discard pile.
Just realized skip bo rules are nearly the same as speed / spit
Man I just brought this game I’m taking this shit right back I’ll stick to phase 10 😂
This comment killed me. My mom just brought both( phase 10 and skip bo), and I'm still confused on how to play 😂😂
I'm jus gonna give this damn game away ain't nobody got time for that 😂😂😂
Lord Marley ua-cam.com/video/-Gi-aGxZ_-8/v-deo.html
So just stockpile has to be emptied not all cards picked up or put down
Is a skip I card wild?
Yep
For an extra challenge, you can play a version where the cards start at 12 and go down to 1…
Can you only have one skipbo card in a build pile or multiple
+matthew Edwards multiple
Fucking hell im glad i stole this game rather than bought it because fucking hell i cant figure it out. And I thought i could play this with friends while drinking
Why different colors?
What if the youngest player don’t have a 1 to start with? Does he discard to the next player or can he put down any card to start the game with?
The youngest can put down the number one or a Skip Bo card or he can discard one of The five cards drawn at the beginning of the play
Okay so basically the card need to go in order and u win when ur stock pile runs out. Got it
Good job dude.
thank you!
I'm commenting on this and I do play skip-bo with my 10 year old cousin and my grandpa, we pick a card and the highest deals, the dealer goes last and I was the dealer, but your sayin that the youngest goes first and I'm the youngest playing, but whateves. What matters is I like skip-Bo and I don't care how old I am, I play it because it's fun and yeah.
So you’re at most 15 now, remember this old comment?
Thanks Skip Bo you’ve ruined Christmas
I’m having more fun reading these comments 😂
Thank you very much
danke top erklärung ois gecheckt
Thanks I get the game now.
Bro went from looking fresh outta highschool to having a viking beard and humor
So...a way overcomplicated/stupid UNO. Thanks for the video.
If you don’t understand the video change the playback speed to 0.75
“The building piles must be started with a 1 or skip bo.” What if you have none? That is where I’m confusion.
Then you’d discard and the next player will go
The worse part, is that its the only game in county jail :(
It looks like I’m not the only one that came here for a refresher 😂
My volunteer program loves this game
Ok understood 👌
So…. Its just budget uno?
Ohhh that's how you play!? #1 is down put 2 from hand next player throws out a wild skipbo and choose any number instead of counting up. I got it now. Thanks.
What the heck are the colors for? Neither this video nor the instructions say
Did the dog survive?
so not getting it at all!!!!!
+Marvin Arreola :(
Nice try but you didnt explain it well. Make a video of an actual short game and talk through it
always wanted to know how to play this
I bought this game hoping to play with my 7 year old who's pretty smart for her age but this game has too much going on to easily explain to the average 7 year old. So, I'll put it on the back burner for a few years and try it again.
Joke:
What happens when you add an extra O to skip-bo?
Skip-boo!
You should try to teach us blind lost hair
THIS GAME, PLAYED BY THE DIRECTIONS IS BORING AT BEST! (unless you are young or playing with someone young or old)
Try this version... REVERSE SKIP-BO! Its played just as shown in the video but with a twist! Instead of just creating building piles that go from 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 and so on to 12.... try this. Building piles still start with 1 but from there you can play a 2 or a 12. So you can go 1 then 12 then 11 then 10 then 11 then 10 again! What this does it to open up the dynamics of the game. No longer will you be playing a simple game of "checker" but now the new version of REVERSE SKIP-BO is like playing "chess"
I play this and every time I do, everyone who doesnt asks me how to play and what it is. sending this to them every time they ask now lol
