I grew up in the 50's and 60's and we were all average, No white privilege, just hard working Americans.
Part of the problem is that until the mid-1960s, black people were not treated fully as people in most places in the US. Forgiveness for ancestral oppression comes hard. And while human beings should not blame ancestors of people for their grandparents' sins, the Lord visits the iniquity to the 3rd and 4th generations.

My dads hands shook so bad he could not hold a cup of coffee without spilling it...battle fatigue is what they called it back then.
My Dad was same way. And still had shrapnel in him when he passed. Would've been 93 this yr.
Battle fatigue is life long. Maybe the memories fade a bit over time day to day. Living quietly, seeing God’s creation helps.
I had an uncle who was severely wounded during WWII,and only on his deathbed, reveled some of the horrific things he experienced. But even as a child, and without him ever speaking about the war, I could tell that when we visited, there was something off about him? Only decades later, when he told his stories, did it become crystal clear why he was the way he was!

I am 62 years old. I graduated from RHS in 1980 and I say that only in reference to my post. My High School Principal was Mr. Thomas Hagy. He was there when they stormed the beaches of Normandy, D-Day. During my U.S. History Class on the anniversary of D-Day he came to our classroom and told us all about what happened. I was honored to have known this great man. We owe them all a debt of respect and gratitude for what they did that day for our Country. We owe all our Men and Women of the Armed Forces our respect. My own son is a Veteran. I might know them all but I owe them all for my freedom. God Bless the U.S. Military. Thank you all for your service.

My father and two of my uncles were in the Navy. My father was a radar man and after the war he went to MIT on the GI bill and became an engineer. My uncle became a minister in the Four Square church my other uncle stayed in the Navy for 30 yrs

My Uncle Dickey was a brave "M"arine. He fought in World War II. My 'Father was in the "A"rmy. He bravely fought there too. My Uncle Johnny and Brother Jessie were "N"avy brave and true. (M.A.N.) am I forever proud to be a member of their family too.

My Uncle was in Army Air Corp. He did alot of nose art. He also was contacted by Disney. Grandad was a farmer, and wanted him back on the farm. My uncle became an architect. He designed a prison. He also was also a Boy Scout leader. Some of his Eagle Scouts were still visiting him in his 80s. He also came home with shaking hands, however, when his pencil on the drawing board his hand was steady. He taught alot. Thanks, Mark, for sharing.

My Grandfather and his brother-in-law both joined the Navy right after Pearl Harbor.
My wife's father and Uncle also joined the Navy right after Pearl Harbor.
