E.g. you may of had a life that left you resentful- this life you'll react with resentment until you deal with the reality of being resentful. ( you may not know why resentment is an issue for you but it is your responsibility to deal with the reality of your unresolved emotions.
I feel like we could do that by being extremely kind and forgiving in this life. Towards others and also ourselves. Not feeling burdened by the bad things that happen in this life, but greatfull of those challenges, because they may be clearing old misdeads.
