Love that you did this because I’ve been curious. After 47 years I finally figured out how to embrace and love my curls a little over a year ago. Both my daughters have curly hair and I love their curls so I thought I should learn to love mine too. My oldest turned me on to the curly girl method and it has made all the difference. I pretty much do many of the things you do but I use gel instead of mousse while my hair is dripping wet in the shower. I also need to try the clip thing. I was using little two prong clips and the one clip seems so much easier. Love you and your channel. So glad to seeing it growing.
I have 4a/b, tightly coiled hair and when I’m not doing a twist out and styling in a wash n go style similar to what you are doing I sit under a hooded dryer to dry. That is better for tightly coiled hair. Air drying will take FOREVER especially for dense, Afro-type hair. And scrunching is not necessary, putting on products in the shower helps, but the curl will form on its own, so you can sit under the dryer right after applying product. And yes I never brush my hair dry, I only brush when wet with conditioner in.
You truly have the most beautiful hair. All your hard work pays off.
Love talking about curly hair with other curly girls! Great video! I find the wetter my hair is when I put the products in the better for me.
I have extremely straight natural hair so none of this video applies to me but I just so enjoy your content I watched anyway!!
Did this routine this morning and my hair turned out great. I've been trying to find my curly routine for over 2 years. I'm not giving up!!
New subscriber & been binging for a while & this video is SPOT ON!!!! To anyone watching I'm telling ya ... This is the BEST ADVICE on treating natural curly hair! TY Mandy!! I've been following most all these steps my whole adult life (I'm 50 y/o). I cut my hair very short a few years ago & have been growing it out lately however, I've learned some great additional tips!! The "towel hold" is GENIUS!! can't wait to try this step!!
Thx for all ya do here!! 🔆
Hi Mandy! I just did what you suggested and bought some of the products you suggested and my hair is magnificent and smells good too! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love your channel!❤❤❤
Your curls are beautiful, your face is beautiful, your heart is beautiful too. 🤗💜🧡💛💚💙
This was spot on. I finally embraced my curls over a year ago and follow the co-wash curly girl method. Now I love my curls! P.S. I adore your hair color - it adds so much dimension!
Thank you! I'm 41 and for the first time I feel like someone gets my hair. Can't wait to try these tips.
I had the same experience! I got a perm when I was about the same age and it never went away. My mom had my hair cut into a pixie cut thinking she would cut off the curl, girl I looked like a Q-tip!!
My method is shampoo roots/scalp first, then rinse; shampoo ends, rinse and put on conditioner; wash body; rinse out conditioner while combing (from the bottom) gently with a wide tooth shower comb. I towel dry it and comb it again (while still standing in the shower) and I immediately add my products (bouncy creme by ISO and herbal essences for curly hair products, both their gel and mousse) and then scrunch it and hair spray it don’t comb/brush it again until I shower/wash it again unless I’m using a sock bun.
My hair is gorgeous afterwards and stays that way for about 3-4 days, can be refreshed with water in spray bottle, additional mousse, scrunching and hair spray. Dry shampoo at the roots if needed after hair dries.
I do NOT scrunch with a towel. I scrunch and let it be. My hair doesn’t get crunchy. I think it depends on your mousse. I also clip up my hair but I use the ones that the ends fold under so the fold rests against your head so the ends of the claw don’t poke your scalp.
Hi Mandy Lea! Great hair video! U answered many of my questions about products and technique. Growing up I had long stick straight hair and I started getting perms at age 17. I finally stopped after the big hair days of the 80s & 90s. Now my hair is gray and I have it colored & foiled. Apparently the gray changed the texture of my hair and it is wavey/curly! Ha! I like it curly but my husband likes it straight. I flip flop back & forth. When I get tired of the curls, I go straight. Also I used to not sweat. Now my head sweats A LOT! Very frustrating in warm weather so I end up w the hair clips & a pony tail. Your hair is beautiful! Thanks so much!
It’s exciting to see your channel growing! Wow, over 10K now!!
First of all, I think your hair is beautiful. When I turned 30, my hair magically turned pretty wavy. I’m so glad I found this video because I fully trust your makeup tips and recommendations so this is super helpful for me in terms of techniques and products because I’m so new at having wavy/curly hair. Thank you!
Thank you. I did your steps and my hair looks great. Maybe I’ll learn to embrace the curl.
Super helpful! My hair is curly/wavy/frizzy especially when it’s rainy or humid! Sea Salt Spray sometimes helps my ends keep the beachy curl look so they don’t go limp.
Congrats on reaching 10K! Super exciting! You go girl 👍🏼
Such beautiful hair 😍 PLUS......CONGRAT on over 10k!! 🥳🥳👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 2020 is going to even beter ❤️
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! I have pin straight hair but my son has absolutely gorgeous mega curly red hair that he is growing out and I watched this whole video A) to help him (he's only 7) and B) because I truly just enjoy your videos!!
I just recently found you and absolutely love to watch your videos! I had wavy hair up until I was 20 (got a few perms, and apparently, it was a PERM! You're hair is gorgeous, and was hoping to find a video like this. Thank you for taking the time to share your routines. Curly hair is so expensive and time-consuming! But looks good if it behaves.
Preach it woman! Never brush my hair. I have naturally curly hair. Used to be tight coils when I was younger. Two pregnancies later and it isn't as tight anymore. I still have coils but it is mixed now. Some loose and some tight. I always apply my products in the shower actually. And I use a microfiber towel. I to use the towel to scrunch my curls. I love the amika hair care products!! Their conditioners are amazing. This was super helpful. Love it. Love your hair woman! And your makeup looks fabulous today and stunning! Love!!!! ❤️💜
I have your almost exact hair texture . I find argon oil, Curls Rock by Tigi and then after it dries Euphora Smooth-in oil is my magic bullet. I'm a Hair stylist and I have tried TONS of different combos and this is my fav!
Soooo helpful. It's great it's basically just airdrying, which I also prefer. Thank you 🥰
Many thanks. I go to work at 9:30am and couldn't stand to do all of that in the am. I take my shower before bed. I have a perm so my morning isn't spent with a curling iron. your curl is where mine is just before I am ready for another perm; however, I learned about some new products and frizz control. Many thanks!
Thank you for making this video so informative!! My curl pattern is very similar to yours so I was hanging on your every word of advise lol. Now I know what products you love for your best curls, so now that’s what I will use! Thanks!!
Oooook. I know this is an older video but I just tried this routine out and it’s soooo good. I just used products I had and mixed my curl cream with a gel for a substitute.
I have been trying to figure out a routine for the last 4 years. And styling super wet upside down in the shower is just too uncomfortable. Styling upright with a brush breaks up my clump too much. But this is juuust right. And this technique is faster than the other two by a long shot. Thank you thank you. Very happy!
SO HELPFUL!!!! 💛 Thank you!
I have fine, stick straight hair but this was SO INTERESTING! It’s like a whole different world of hair care! Very cool.
Gorgeous hair! 😍 Have you tried using the mousse first? I find mousse in really wet hair really helps to create the clumps that later form the curls, and then I lock them in with a harder hold product like a gel. I’m definitely trying the clip trick! Great idea!
Love the quote..." Your hair is like a child the more you try to control it the more it acts out!!!" So funny! I have had curly hair for 41 years. It's a definite love hate relationship!! More love but still...
If I had only known that about hair AND KIDS earlier in life! Lord have mercy!!!
I rarely wear my hair naturally curly but I'm definitely going to try this method!!!
I'm a curly girl and you are lucky I love you currently watching a 7min ad to support you 😂💖
Curls Rock by Toni and Guy is my all time favorite! (You must have bought it a long time ago; the packaging has changed.) Glad to hear other folks recommend it too.
Your idea of wrapping your curls using a stool is genius!
Using the clip is a great tip! I never thought about doing that. I have been waiting for you to do this video forever 😂 I usually just flat iron my hair and wash it once a week but I kinda love my curls when they air dry but the top is just too flat for me. Thank you for sharing your tips ❤️
Totally true! No two hairs are alike! LOL! I have like 4 layers of different types of curls going from sausage curls to slight wavy frizz. "Plopping" has made the most difference for me with that top layer of "frizz" and I use a curling iron to help the wimpy wave areas match up. Thanks for all the tips!
I love this and can’t wait to watch! Your curls are beautiful. ♥️
OMG I was so hoping for this video! Thank uuuu
Editing me: my mum and I both have curly hair, and we were watching this video and writing down every single detail, we will definitely try! I think this is such a wonderful video and I will probably rewatch it over and over when I want to remember a product or even some specific tip! Thank you for doing this video!
That's true! Curly hair does what it wants no matter what we do! 😂 Beautiful as usual and congrats for your 10000 subscribers... I feel so proud of you! 👍💕
I have very curly hair and went through this kind of process for a few years and it was just too much of a hassle. If it had looked even a little bit as good as yours does, I might have continued. I ended up getting keratin treatments every few months. It basically takes out the curl, but my hair looks shiny and healthy. I absolutely love your hairstyle!!
The struggle is real! I like using the devacurl wavy shampoo and Conditioner. I am finding that it helps shapes my curl/waves better but also cleans and moisturizes my hair. I am now trying to find something help give volume! Thanks for the tips.
That is some dream hair! Never straighten it!
I'm so jealous of your gorgeous hair. Mine is so fine and straight
Such a good video! I have the same type of hair and have never understood how to get it looking pretty naturally, thank you!!
Seems you and I have the exact type of crazy hair. Everything you described was like listen to someone describe my hair. I cannot wait to try the products you recommended (all of which I didn’t know about) but even more so the process you go through. Thank you for creating this video.
I’m a UK naturally curly girl ❤️ I had straight hair that was so long I could sit on it until my 15th birthday when I had it cut to shoulder length and it boinged up into a mane of curls, this was 30 years ago and one thing I have learnt is that my hair is the boss 😂
I’m sooo freaking jealous of your hair, lol. I have some natural waves that I’m always trying to accentuate. Any tips on products?
Thanks, girlie🍃🌸
Many many congrats🎉🎊 on 10k. So excited for you. My hair is not curly, slightly wavy, but gets frizzy sometimes. Straight air also tends to get flaaaat
Congratulations on 10k!!! So truly happy for you. Your hair is just stunning. I watched even though I have a pixie cut!😂
Absolutely need to try some of these tips! Thank you!
Your channel is amazing!
Great tips, thanks! Fullness at the crown is always problematic for me since my hair is straight to about the top of the ear. I had bangs for a long time for this reason but recently grew them out & now have the 🔺️ that thick, layered, wavy hair can get. In the 80s I just got root perms or the top layer done to even everything out :) I've definitely learned to *not* brush my hair except right before washing & I just bought a pick style comb to separate snarls without frizz. First day, freshly washed hair always looks pretty good(I'm lucky) but I struggle with 2nd, 3rd, 4th day hair & that's usually when the frizzy/ratty look sets in if I've let it dry natural. I'm so happy to see you used multiple products because that's what has worked for me too--combination of a moisture/style creme & wave mousse by Moroccan Oil. Then I use dry texture spray & curl reviving spray on non wash days. I'm looking for good drugstore or lower cost alternatives since MO is kind of xpensive.
Found this old video and can't wait to try your suggestions. I don't have naturally curly hair but do have a perm that has now lasted almost a year. As this video is now a few years old I was wondering if you still use the same routine and products or if you've updated it in any way?
The clip method is a “must do” for anyone with curly hair. Also love the tips for 3-4 day hair. Always a struggle for me
Thank you 🙏 for doing this video! I’m going to try some of these tips!!
I have straight hair but this fascinated me!
Thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been waiting for this video and it was worth the wait! So helpful....
I had a friend in college who had very long, very thick GAWGEOUS hair. I asked her how she did it and she told me that she didn't wash it every day. Just like you said, wash the scalp areas and let the shampoo just trickle down to the ends. Then condition it all like crazy and rinse well. I have done it ever since and that seems to be the best way to get length. When I had my son 16 years ago, my hair went curly - my stylist said it was hormones. He gave me nice curls and my feet grew half a size.
Thank you so much for posting this! I started curly girl method techniques a couple of months ago and was curious about your routine!
Ugh!! I learned so much. THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for sharing. I have naturally wavy/curly hair and have never known how to style it... Your hair is absolutely beautiful and this vid is the best. Absolutely love your channel. xox
I’ve been doing the curly girl method for 11 months. Curly Susie is a great UA-camr to watch for tips! I’m also in groups on Facebook. My curls came with puberty and got looser with each of my 2 pregnancies. I gave up on my waves because I never knew how to care for them. They are back & look better than ever! PS you can use a cotton T-shirt on your hair. Cheap and combats frizz & breakage!!!
Thanks Robin! Great suggestion! I have lots of old t shirts lying around!❤️️
My wavy/curly hair went away with my first and has started to come back since my second. I am having to relearn how to style my hair since it went from being super greasy to super dry.
I want that haircolor!
Hi Mandy! Thank you so much for this video! Great tips and found that I do some of the similar things that you mentioned. But I learned a lot of new things as well.I have embraced my naturally curly hair over the past 2 years. Are used to flat iron it every six days and that got to be too much I found when I embraced it was so much better! I do something similar by plopping my hair like you do in a towel but use a T-shirt laid on the floor with a similar type process as you demonstrated. That works pretty well too.
Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream is the best I've found..love it. A little pricey, but so worth it. I don't even need mousse
Recently found your channel and now I'm hooked! I've got curly hair too but I blowdry it straight most of thr time.
Hi there, good informative video. I always wondered how you do your hair. I have curls too but for some reason I always hate mine and love the ones others have 🤷♀️ I am a reasonably new subscriber and just wanted to say your videos are easy to watch and educational. Keep’em coming. Thank you!
I’m so happy I found your channel again! I remember watching a video you did 6 years ago (??) with Schwarzkopf Got2B paste. My hair is EXACTLY like yours. My question, what do you do with your hair at night before going to be?
Great tips!!!! Thank you 😘😘😘
Mandy, thank you so much for posting this. Definitely learnt something new from this video. Question. Between washing your hair every 4 days do you comb your hair at all ?
Thanks for the great info. Just FYI the nape is the back of your hair where it meets the neck.
When you have to leave the house with a head of wet curly hair. Yep. 😜🤷♀️
Beautiful hair! Great ideas! I have curly hair too & have found it to be a lot of trial & error. I'm going to check out a couple of the products you mentioned - thank you :-)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Lots of great tips!! Your hair is beautiful...I can’t wait to share this with my daughter!
Thank you so much! I’ve got your type of curl exactly- but I’ve got a short/pixie cut. These tips still help so much. 👍🙌
Hi ! Thank you for the amazing video ! :) How often do you cut your hair?
I have been watching all your hair videos this morning. What are you doing to get the icey color? It looks beautiful ❤️
This video was so helpful!
Also wrlla bounce boost mousse is amazing
My hair is naturally very curly, but is good to know about new products, thank u , I love u hair a u as a person .. I use the Pantene curls ( with the line on pink ) is working very good ..
I don’t think you are crazy. Great tips. I have the same hair which I describe as multi textural hair. Individual fine strands, medium to thick density (thick at crown, medium in the back and sides). Curly in spots, wavy and even straight in other areas and tangles easily. It can be a curl bomb day one and can go flat and limp the next day. When I was young, I’d use hot rollers or get a perm in order to control the curl, shape, look. I am now 64 and don’t have long hair anymore, but when it is below chin to shoulder length, I let it air dry with any number of products including mousse, curl cream, leave in curl conditioner and what works some days will fail me on others. Seldom do I use a diffuser. You are right…resist drying too quickly and avoid touching your hair to mitigate extra frizz. I used to twist sections to define the curl, but that can work against me. Scrunching definitely works best and when I am impatient, I just blow it “straight”. Never salon straight, always a couple of wavy spots especially in the back. And it never stays straight - starts to bend on the ends as the day wears on. So I usually hit it with a curling iron. Oh well. It’s not boring. Ha!
You are definitely not crazy, you have to see how many steps and products i do have to keep my wavy curly hair looking ok :) Same gel-cream step, but then... i use serums and curl enhancers before cream styler products. I like in particular AG Serum which makes my hair softer and balance out all the other products which may make my hair too crunchy sometimes... B&B products works well, but i definitely will try some of your fav gel creams! Since my hair is very fine i use oil in the end instead and very small amount and in the end when my hair is dry, also mosses are not working so well for me, but may be i just need to find right one, usually they dry my hair too much somehow and second day becomes impossible. Other then that many similar tricks with drying and using special towel.. i like micro-fiber towers which can be easily found in any winners or marshals stores. I will definitely try some of your fav products and try your tricks for second and third day. I love using Shu Uemura Wonder Worker, it makes my hair a bit more smooth and less curly but totally get rid of any dry and frizz, pricy but i never found anything working as good as this for me. Thank you so much for sharing this, also you are such a treat to watch, like you a lot, you are beautiful!
You are beautiful. Love your hair. You remind me of my daughter who has a very thick curly head of hair that she had always had trouble controlling. 💚😀
Terrific video with lots of great info. Thank you for the details. Do you color or foil your hair? If so, how do you keep it looking so healthy?
Finding the right curly hair cocktail can take time and lots of trial and error. I use the BTZ creme product mixed with Rusk Wired (after reading Kim of Little Big Town uses that). It's a good combo for me. Thanks for the video!!
Great video. You are so adorable. My daughter has the exact hair as you and I always say " I gave you that hair and now I'd like it back please. "
Sharon Starr I love that. My daughter also has that hair. Red, very long and very curly.
Beautiful!!!
I am probably the only curly who loves crunchy curls…….I wash once a week (sometimes every 2 weeks) 😁
Your hair is gorgeous
I'm a curly girl too! In the last year, I discovered the Curly Girl Method. It completely transformed the health of my hair, but the style doesn't always look great. It's often flat and lifeless, but trying to get volume results in frizz. Do you avoid silicones? I could look up all of the ingredients to the products you mentioned, but it's quicker to just ask you!
Use a good conditioner, don't brush your hair, use an oil when hair is almost sopping wet. Then use a gel cream paste hybrid on mostly the top part/nape and down gently through the ends to fight frizz. Scrunch hair with damp towel. Set curls by coiling hair on top and wrap in a towel. About 10-20 mins later add mousse and scrunch. Put half section up with a clip for volume for as long as possible. Then take out clip and use a diffuser if you'd like to and then clip it back up until dry. I think those are the steps. Did I miss anything?
😂🤣😆
I may have forgotten to mention the step where you do a handstand for 5 minutes while singing the ABCs backwards in two different languages, but I was worried people might think I was high maintenance.😆 Thanks for the comment Nicole! It gave me a good laugh!😁❤️
@@MandyLeaBeauty I swear I only made that comment so I could remember the steps. And btw I tried all of this yesterday and my curls are beautiful! Still going on day 2 even so thank you! I have been struggling with my wavy curly hair for years
Fantastic video!!!! Literally using your technique as I watch! :)
you're not crazy, on the contrary. you're wise :) Thank you so very much! This was super helpful.
Great tips and your hair is beautiful!
My thick hair grew curlier with each pregnancy and for my oldest daughter, it was with puberty.
Once I finally accepted my hair did a 180 degree turn, it made my life so much easier. The frizz was out of control.
I wash twice a week, but have to occasionally use a low poo product or my hair gets heavy. I do brush (aack!), but I'm careful. I find that finger coiling my hair when it is wet makes my curls bounce and easier to brush/pick. I wash at night and plop with a t-shirt (like you) until morning...because I'm lazy and have a 5:30 wakeup. :) It cuts down on drying time in the morning.
Thanks Angela! Great suggestions!! It really is about just finding what works for you!❤️️
OMG trying this tomorrow 🙌🏻 Thank you!
This video is AWESOME!!!!! Thank you!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💜💜💜💜💜
Those damn perms!!! That’s what happened to me too. My sister, still poker straight hair! I can’t remember the last time I brushed my hair lol Very helpful. Thank you Mandy ❤️🇨🇦
hello Mandy ! As a curly team member, I thank you for your tips ! ♥ Unfortunately, my curly hair are very very thin and it's a challenge to find some good products for this type of curls. Have a great day ☼
Have you heard of Manes by Mell? I’ve been hooked on her channel lately. Lots of great tips. Thanks for putting all this info together! I’m one of those curly girls who have been anxious to see it. ❤️
I am a curly girl too! It took decades before I finally learned how to style and use several styling products before I fell in love with it! 61 and loving it!!
Ha ha same
