Hey! I play a Clark original and a brass Killarney D. I've never played instruments before, but I'm in love with wind instruments. For now, I learn by notation, but I'm trying to learn to play by ear. It's hard but I'm keeping at it!
Hi Vivian - congratulations, your submission was selected to win the Humphrey whsitle! Please DM me through UA-cam and we'll sort out a good shipping address. Cheers!
thanks a lot, been playing a native american flute for some years, self taught, by ear, almost no theory, just bought a couple of tin whistles at a yard sale, Been enjoying you videos for a couple of years, thanks, keep growing......
Started serious practice when the pandemic hit. Am in the high risk group, age and previous cancer treatment. I like the challenge and the examples you provide. Hope you will continue to teach. Would love to hear you play live. 78 in Pflugerville Texas.
Hey man! I like your videos, it's really nice to see how you improved in editing and the quality of your videos is so much better after all of these years. The only thing that annoys me is the music in b-rolls. You are talking about whistles and traditional music but the music you use in brolls is like from cheap tv commercials. I'm sure if you change this one single thing your channel will get more authenticity and subscriptions. Keep up the good work and thank you! / I don't have a tin whistle but I'm gonna get one soon. I play a bit on goldie low whistle though.
Thanks for every video you have uploaded. I have learned several tunes thanks to you. I'm currently playing an Oak Whistle looking for a higher quality option.
I've got a Tony Dixon abs plastic whistle in D. I play Amazing Grace every night at 7 pm because in our neighbourhood we still have a shout-out for the front-line workers. My whistle rings out over the neighbourhood. thanks for your videos and congrats on your milestone.
Currently play a Clarke sweet tone in D, nothing fancy but it was the first whistle I bought and have learnt so much using it! Love your channel. Keep making great content :)
I’m not sure what kind of tin whistle I have but I picked it up in Ireland 15 years ago. Your videos have got me playing it and loving the tin whistle :) thank you!
Thanks whistletutor, especially for slip jigs which are just loverlyloverlyloverly. As a fiddler (what?) slowly wending my way on the trusty Feadóg living secretly in my fiddle case, I am so grateful to be amongst the 10,000. A (nearly) new whistle would be whipped out at many a session, be filled with tunes, and get the appreciation it deserves from the many mighty whistlers here (Australia). After they got over their surprise.
Congratulations! That's really great! I'm spoiled with whistles! I'm playing Roy MacMannus, Copelands, Sweets, Freeman, Talmadge, MK, Dixon, and Clarke.
Hi, I have picked up the tin whistle during NZ quarenteen and really appreciate your helpfull videos. Just starting jigs on a cheap and cheerfull Feadog D which for my level is fine and when it goes wrong it's exellent payback at the neighbours who used their chainsaw to chop up firewood from 9-5pm every weekday for five weeks straight.
I have an Oak Classic pennywhistle in D that my husband got about 15 years ago, found recently, and gifted to me when he found out I was interested in learning. Your videos are really helpful. Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers!
I have owned my Feaoog for over 20 years. I have just really started playing again. Really love Irish music, it is my heart. Maybe my Irish ancestors channeling. Thank you for your videos.
Hi, I'm a french musician living in Spain and thanks to you and your amazing videos I've reopened my old dusty instruments case and went back to learn the whistle. I'm playing on various Susato whistles (G, D, C, Bb,...) but I'm planning to buy a Goldie Low D soon and a Humphrey High D... 😉 Thank you again for your excellent lessons and always sharing your passion. Merci !! 😊
I now play a humphrey thanks to you. it replaced a soodlum mello D . Ive been struggling to learn for years, the ornaments never made sense until now.. your lessons have made it so much more accessible that i know feel like im finally gaining confidence on the instrument in just the last 3 months. great videos.
I currently play two high D whistles. If the tune I'm playing has a lot of high notes (i.e., second octave notes), I use a Roy McManus whistle. If a lot of lower notes (i.e., first octave), I use an Eric the Flutemaker whistle. Both whistles are excellent instruments but they seem to play better at opposite ends of the tone range. Thank you for your contributions to the whistling community!
I play a Freeman Blackbird D whistle. It really sings like a bird! I also have a Dixon brass in D and a Bb generation. I am relatively new to Irish traditional music, but I love it and I love playing the whistle. and I very much enjoy your videos.
Hi, Gary! My first whistle was a cheap clark whistle. After watching your videos and your recommendations I got a whistle from Gary and love it. I have all my sons cheap Clark whistles for Christmas 2 years ago. Two of them are actually playing and enjoy whistling. Last June I got a brass whistle from Gary I think the sister to the one your giving away. I would love to give the whistle if I win to my son Chris. He's a new dad and he's been playing for the baby. Thank you for your music and lessons. Gary is a great guy and a skilled whistle player.
I'm working with a Feadog D whistle I got for pretty cheap, but I've been able to learn pretty steadily on it! Also, appreciate the slipjig exercises, I've been obsessed with them ever since I learned The Butterfly and Foxhunter's Slipjig
You have a very helpful channel there, I started with a Feadóg Pro and later got a Sweetone, but now recently got a O'Briain Improved and am very happy with it. Now I can't decide if I don't ever need another whistle or want to start collecting even more.
I don’t have a whistle, but would like one. I have been playing the NAF for a few years and have been wanting to expand my musical experience with an Irish whistle.
Congratulations on reaching 10,000! I picked up my first whistle just a few months ago, a Clark Traditional in D. Something I’ve always wanted to learn and quarantine here in Newfoundland, Canada has been the perfect opportunity. Thanks for your videos....they’re super. ☺️
I’m rocking a Walton’s mellow D. I’ve been playing six months or so and it was your video on tripping up the stairs that got me onto your videos. Congratulations
Congrats on 10k subs man, you deserve more! Currently playing on a Clark sweetone in high d as a training whistle. Been learning a lot of new songs from your channel so I’m due for an upgrade soon. Looking at a Jerry freeman tweaked generation or Gary Humphrey if I’m lucky enough!
I've only been playing for about a year on a Feadog in d, your videos have really helped me in trying to teach myself this beautiful instrument. Thanks so much for the awesome content!
I have Clarke whistle. I’m just learning how to play it. You’re an inspiration not only for playing the Tin Whistle, but also to lose weight. From your earlier to your newest videos, first I thought it was a different person, but no, you lost some weight. Thank you!
I started playing in the last few months and I've fallen madly in love with the whistle. I started on a Clark Sweet tone and now I play a plastic Dixon DX005 pro high D, a Dixon DX006 heavy-walled aluminum high C, and a Howard low D. I've used your videos, especially the exercises, along with Cutiepie and the online school of Irish music to learn. I consider you all my teachers. Your 10,000 followers are well earned, well done.
Hi Sean! I'm a Bagpiper from Dundee, Scotland. I've always loved the sound of the whistle, so I finally decided to pick one up ( a Clarke Celtic whistle ) near the start of our lockdown here about 7 or 8 weeks ago! I'm hoping to join in more sessions on the whistle when I move to university (hopefully next year) so I've been thinking of a whistle upgrade for a while. Just want to say thanks for all your content, its been really helpful as a beginner. Cheers!
Currently playing a basic brass Tony Dixon playing it for 4 years been following you a long time remember your first video when I was playing in school about 11 years of age 😂
10,000 subs is huge on a tin whistle channel. You've helped inspire me make a channel of my own! I record my videos these days on mostly a Jerry Freeman bluebird and that's what I practice with usually. For fun I play my low d Kerry Optima, but I haven't recorded with it yet. All the best, and here's to another 10k!
I bought a couple of Clarke Sweetone D whistles recently as my son and I both needed something to occupy ourselves during the lockdown. Luckily there turned out to be a lot of tin whistle tutors on UA-cam, and this channel is definitely one of the best. Thanks, and here's to the next 10,000 subs. 👍
Thanks for doing this, and for all the awesome videos over the years! I'm currently playing a Jerry Freeman Blackbird. Congrats on 10,000 subscribers, that's amazing!
Hey mate! Been watching your videos ever since I started playing around seven years ago. It's really cool to see how far this channel has come, and I really hope to keep learning new stuff from you for a long time. I really have just a bunch of cheapies haha, my favourite by far is my Gen Bb. Just a wonderful whistle all around, I'd recommend it to anyone who would like a mellow and easy to play whistle.
I switch between a Dixon low D and a Killarney brass D. COVID ruined my plans to stay playing in sessions, but I'm excited to get to the other side of this. Thanks for all your great videos!
Currently I’m playing a Killarney along with a Casey Burns flute. Congrats and thanks for the information you put out there! Have learned many tips, tricks and tunage from you! A pleasure...keep up the great work!
I'm new to tin whistles. I'm currently learning on a Feadog Pro D. I've been using some of your videos as a resource for my learning and appreciate you're sharing your knowledge with us.. Congrats on the 10K subscribers!
Hi, I am currently using a Feadog high D. Have been trying to learn the tin whistle for a while now. Progress has been slow, but slowly making headway. Good luck to everyone entering.
Woot! Your whistle skills have always been great but it’s your video chops that have come a long way! I play Jerry Freeman’s Mellow Dog- C and D. Woot woot!
Congratulations on 10K! Been watching you since not long after you started you channel. I bought a Clarke Sweetone Tin Whistle and learned to play Down by Sally's Garden and Road to Linsodoorvna (I am pretty sure I'm butchering the spelling of that lol) back years ago. Spent a whole summer playing outside learning those two songs and fingerings and adding embellishments. My poor whistle has taken a beating over the years and has a few little dings in it, but it still plays nicely, not bad for a $10 whistle. Haven't played it in a few years and only started picking it back up recently. Learned to play the game of thrones opening song. lol I still don't have the whole thing memorized. Thanks for all the years of great tutorial content for even us folks who just dabble a bit.
Thanks for the videos. They are fun and entertaining and, most of all, they inspire me to work at becoming proficient. I started several years ago with two Clarke Sweetones in C and D. Then I added a Walton's Mellow D. Reading about DIY PVC whistles prompted me to get a Becker D and B flat. I also inherited a Cloos C flute/fife, which has been an interesting distraction! Someday, the flute. With the "lockdown" I am getting serious about learning to play and creating a set of tunes I can really perform. One song at a time.
Sean...wow! Congrats on hitting 10,000 subs. That is a real achievement. Your videos have been a constant source of inspiration and instruction since I started playing about 3 years ago. I've learned beginner techniques and more advanced techniques through your videos and I really appreciate the work you put into them. It's amazing to look back and see how far your production quality has come, as well as seeing your change in appearance. Great job there as well! The whistle I play right now is a Cillian O'Briain Improved Feadog D. It's a fantastic whistle but it requires a lot of breath control and is on the quiet side. The tuning is spot on and it has the right amount of sweetness while still maintaining the character of a 'vintage' whistle sound. I also bought a flute last year...it's a blackwood Olwell keyless Pratten in D. Making lots of progress on flute as well so I really enjoy your flute videos too!
Congrats on the 10K subscribers! I often just play my Tony Dixon D whistle in Brass or Nickel. When no one is home is when I break out the Chieftain Thunderbird D Whistle since it is much louder than any other whistle I have.
Hi. Great channel. I’ve been watching for a few years. I am a saxophone player. I took up whistle a few years ago when I heard Brian Finnegan. I am currently playing a Susato Kildare. I bought a few cheap ones online and found this at a local music store. It gets the best tone of the few that I own. I can’t wait to play that Humphrey whistle. Keep up the great work.
Hi Sean. Congratulations on hitting 10K! I'm currently playing a Dixon DX204 and using lockdown to practice more. Love these videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
The Turkish/Greek karshlimar is also in 9/8. I wonder what other folk music from around the world uses the rythm? I play the Tony Dixon DX005 since I wanted something fairly affordable and rugged but tunable so I can play along to the Grey Larsen practice tunes from his book. I don't practice nearly as much as I want on it as I also play classical flute and have to split my practice time.
Oh man how i would love that Humphrey D😍 Been on my wishlist for a while. I’ve sold all my brass D whistles(Reyburn and Burke) Now I’m playing a Humphrey session Bb(brass) Congrats with 10k!! 🏆
Congrats on 10k! The channel has come a long way; great work! When I play the whistle (as opposed to flute or concertina), I almost always grab my Clarke Meg. For a bit of context, I have a small assortment of cheap-to-cheapish whistles (a modded Clarke original, a few Generations in C, D, and G, and a Susato), but the Meg is my practice/session go-to. Thanks again!
I recently got a Killarney brass in D and I LOVE it! I also have a Susato Kildare in low D with a hole cover because I can't get the stretch down for the last hole. Both are awesome!
Congratulations for 10k subscribers and thank you very much for your videos! I have a Feadog brass whistle that I started playing end of April and since that moment I completely fell in love with whistling 😁
I appreciate your videos! I mostly have cheap instruments: In a smattering of keys, I play a Clarke, several Susatos, a couple Waltons, and I don't play a funky Feadóg. I also play a Somers keyless delrin flute, and a couple Hall flutes.
I only have a generation D whistle at the moment... Concertina is my main instrument, but I feel like playing a bit more whistle again so that would be a great motivation to get a new whistle! Congrats on 10k followers btw, amazing achievement! Best regards from Doolin!
Tunes From Doolin Hi, you are from Doolin, really? You are so lucky it is one of the most beautiful cities, thriving and alive tradition. Kirsten Allstaff my favourite flute player is from there. Doolin is just like a blessing.
Tunes From Doolin that is very kind of you really. People are very kind there :-) I would love to go there again. One of the Best cities I think. I love Ireland So full of life But the Best is Doolin And Galway. I remember driving through the night trying to visit Christy Barry. Lovely place he is such a wonderfull artist on tin whistle And flute. Like Kirsten. 😀 So Thank you for the invitation.
I play a clarke sweettone and a dixon plastic low D. My favourite is however a low G double whistle from Vít Kasparik made from elderberry wood. It is a Czech folk instrument maker and I'm hoping to come across him again at the international bagpipe festival in Strakonice again, because his wooden whistle has the nicest tone I've played so far.
Congratulations on 10k Sean, Well Deserved 😄 The D whistle I’ve been playing for the last few years is a nickel Killarney Whistle, it’s tone can be too sharp at times for my liking 🙈 But it’s a great whistle all the same 😄 I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I’ve checked Gary’s whistles a number of times and they sound amazing. Well done again 😄
Congrats on the milestone. Only been watching for a few weeks, but I've been though most of your library already. Really enjoy your style and teaching methods. Your channel really works well for me studying on my own. I am using a Tony Dixon DX005 right now. Would LOVE to have a Humphrey someday.
My current favorite high D whistles are a Killarney brass and a Dixon DX006. I also have a Dixon low D (DX102) and am trying to get the hang of piper’s grip.
I play a Tony Dixon Trad D brass whistle. Thank you for all your super videos, I've learnt a lot from. Wish you could release also some flute videos soon. Thanks and Congrats!
Congrats on the milestone! I learn so much from your videos. I've had this (dented!) Clarke for 8 years now. I've had other whistles since acquiring this but I gave them away throughout the years thinking that the less whistles I have the more I'll focus on the flute (a polymer Dixon) but that hasn't quite worked out like I hoped it would hehe
Congratulations on reaching 10K subscribers! I have managed to acquire whistles from 6 different makers in my 1.5 years of whistling, but by far my favorite is my Ronaldo Reyburn high D.
I just want to say, thank you so much for the great lessons, they have really helped me with my playing at sessions. Anyhow, I am currently playing a Clarke penny whistle in D, and a Walton’s in D as well.
Hey congrats on 10k subscribers man! I play a mk low D, Kerry low E flat, a chieftain F and a Tony Dixon High D. I have been playing for about 3 years now and it has inspired me to learn irish uilleann pipes and flute.
I've only just started my whistle journey. I play the highland pipes and will be picking up the Uilliean pipes in the near future. I currently play a Dixon high D (pvc) and recently picked up a Dixon low D/practice flute. I enjoy them immensely! Love your work and it's always a pleasure to hear you at the local pub for sessions. Quick edit to note, 9/8 happens often enough in highland pipe music in marches and jigs.
Thanks for all your videos. I'm new to the tin whistle, and it's been great finding someone with such a huge backlog of awesome videos that's _still_ producing content. I (try to) play a Dixon Low D.
I have loved your tutorials so very much , you have been a huge part in my learning and inspiration of irish tunes by memory , i always look forward to your new posts! I have always loved the sound of your whistle and your playing, so chirpy, Irishy and beautiful ! . Congrats on the 10K thats an amazing accomplishment! Thank you for your gift of music to us !! ☘️
Congrats! I started learning tin whistle and tunes with your channel. I hope you'll get even more subscribers! I play whistles made by me, using pvc pipes. I have an alto Bb, A, G, and a low F.
As others have said, you should have more than 10k! I have a classical background (cello) and I started to learn the whistle back in January to fulfill at last my desire to participate in sessions. I play a brass Killarney that I unfortunately damaged a little while trying to clean the fipple. As for 9/8 time signature, that kind of grouping 3+3+3 is not really *that* uncommon, but it's true that we are definitely more used to hear 6/8 and 4/4. As you said, depends on the genre you listen to. Keep up the great work, cheers!
10k is nothing to sneeze at when you think about it! Congrats on the milestone! The whistle I'm currently playing is one I got from a Celtic festival for $5. I have no idea the brand or anything haha
Congrats on 10k! I mainly play my Tony Dixon DX005 (ABS plastic) because I can use it to practice/transcribe songs quietly, but people think it's a recorder when they first hear it. My first whistle was a Feadóg Pro (nickel) in D, which has better volume but a rather unpleasant tone.
Congratulations on the 10K. I started on a Feadog in D. But I wanted something that did not squeak so easily so I got a Tony Dixon in D and love the sound. Would like to get a low D whistle sometime.
Hey, high five for the 10k milestone! I took up whistling during lockdown and bought a cheapo Feadog (D) whistle. I still have *much* to learn and find your videos both informative and inspirational in my learning journey. Keep up the good work! Mike
Hi! Loving these videos. I usually play my Tony Dixon heavy brass Dx204 at home but travel with the Clarke Sweetone because it’s so much lighter and quieter.
Hey! I play a Clark original and a brass Killarney D. I've never played instruments before, but I'm in love with wind instruments. For now, I learn by notation, but I'm trying to learn to play by ear. It's hard but I'm keeping at it!

Congrats! Started following you pre-quarantine as I started taking tin whistle more seriously. For now I’m playing a Killarney whistle in D!
I’ve been watching your videos for a while! Haven’t yet gotten a whistle but I’m saving up for a good one!
Excellent , I' ve been playing for six months , I'm using a Clarke original in D.
I love traditional music, thanks for your help !!!!
Congratis to 10k! I just started playing tin Whistle for some months ago and got a McManus D. You are a great inspiration.
I have a few cheap whistles, but my current favorite is a Becker high D. Thanks for making such helpful videos!
@@almatka1 Yes we are very lucky in Doolin, I know Kirsten well :) Give us a shout next time you can make it to County Clare!
Hello! I started with Walton’s D whistle, then I moved to the Dixon and now play The Sindt whistle. Thank you for all of your help these years!
I am currently playing a homemade copper D. Would love brass! You have helped me so much with your tricks/exercises
Hi! Love the channel. I mainly play an Oak D whistle as well as MK Pro low D. The Oak is almost 40 years old and plays quite sweetly.
Presently playing Overton Low D. Just ordered a McNeela Flute.
Thx for the lesson. Keep up the great work!
I just want to say, thank you so much for the great lessons, they have really helped me with my playing at sessions. Anyhow, I am currently playing a Clarke penny whistle in D, and a Walton’s in D as well.
Do happy I found your channel. I am currently playing a Killarney brass soprano D whistle 👍
Hii, I play a Clarke Sweetone in D. I learned how to play with your channel you have helped me a ton so thank youuu
Congrats on hitting 10k! You’re videos are so helpful! I’m still playing a Clark D whistle but I hope to upgrade eventually! Thanks again!
Hey congrats on 10k subscribers man! I play a mk low D, Kerry low E flat, a chieftain F and a Tony Dixon High D. I have been playing for about 3 years now and it has inspired me to learn irish uilleann pipes and flute.
Thanks for all your wonderful videos they are very helpful for my playing!
I play a couple self-tweeked Generations, clarkes, a Tony Dixon A, and a Chris Wall D. Thanks for all your help over the years!
Thanks for all your videos. I'm new to the tin whistle, and it's been great finding someone with such a huge backlog of awesome videos that's _still_ producing content. I (try to) play a Dixon Low D.
I play a nickel Killarney D whistle, it's an incredible instrument! Thank you for your video lessons, they're very useful!
I play a Killarney D in brass. Love your videos, they’re great for beginners or experienced players too.
Fun idea to see what kind of whistle other people are playing.
I myself am playing a brass whistle in D from Killarney Whistles :)
I am playing a Dixon Pro DX005. Thanks for your videos. Congrats on 10,000!
I've been learning for about a year on a clarke original tin whistle in D. I've found your videos really useful so thank you for making them!
They can be the best.
Really appreciate your videos! I started playing about 1 year ago and play a Tony Dixon DX005 d whistle.
Hey, high five for the 10k milestone! I took up whistling during lockdown and bought a cheapo Feadog (D) whistle. I still have *much* to learn and find your videos both informative and inspirational in my learning journey. Keep up the good work! Mike
I mainly play Dixon whistles. Keep these tutorials coming matey.
Hi! Loving these videos. I usually play my Tony Dixon heavy brass Dx204 at home but travel with the Clarke Sweetone because it’s so much lighter and quieter.
I like your lessons. Thank you honestly for Teaching us. These scales are very interesting.
Playing a Clarke sweettone D whistle. Love your videos, they are awesome!
