here's a pronunciation guide, just read the english word homophones in your natural accent Car-Car = Kākā (Ben nailed it later on) Car-Car-Poor = Kākāpō Care = Kea If you'd like some help with Māori pronunciation I'm happy to help. (It hurts my ears LOL) I've been following Ben on 7DOS since the start, nice collab.
Amazing photography along with your doco, I am in Orewa NZ and could not believe seeing a Kaka in my neighbours very tall Coastal Banksia about a month ago, so wonderful to see !
They are fabulous birds. I had one bird very recently fly straight at me twice only to swoop back up into a tree. Quite mischievous. This individual also landed right behind me on a bench with a nut in their mouth, only to drop it a moment later. The bird then stayed with me for about a minute, and when it took off, the wing slapped my left hand! :)
@@HenrythePaleoGuy Hi Henry, I feed Tui and Waxeyes ....plus numerous others in my garden, and they were all screeching and chasing the Kaka... also screeching ! so happy they did or I would never have seen it.
YASSS one of my favorite shows is back, and it has Ben g Thomas! wow man, your hanging with the big boys now. You totally deserve it. Also yet another interesting bid i have heard nothing about. New Zealand has so many cool birds. Great to see these guys are actually doing kinda ok for a change.
I guess so XD And very true, Kaka are recovering at the moment! :D Unfortunately, from the way the votes are going, it looks like we'll be back to looking at birds on the brink once again.
Hello Henry. Thanks for your awesome job! I have a request :) It would be AWESOME if you would make a video explaining thd differences between paleognathae and neognathae. I have many times tried to go through the wikipedia articles and really understand how those guys differ, but there is so much anatomical terminology with so many unknown terms that I give up every time! Would be great if we would have a simplified and intuitive explanation with pictures showing the differences etc. And one more point: I think there are no such material online for dummies like me, at least I haven't found any, so a video from you would be a GREAT contribution. Thanks in advance!
I started this series to showcase my countries unique bird life since I feel like they all need more attention than what they get, and it would be great for more people to learn more about our endemic wildlife. It is really specific, but that's the whole point, I guess.
@@Forestguardian well first they are named for there cries, not because they names have any other meaning in the polynesian language. And I just said that the same words have this silly meaning in german. Wich is like that tve birds are called this way a fact.

i heard having parrots for pets isn't a good idea because they're so smart, social, and long lived it's like trapping a person in your house alone. maybe if you could afford a parrot community and keep them in an open space somehow
Why don’t you get to make a suggestion creating a UA-cam Videos that’s all about an Extinct Parrot Species, called the Chatham Kākā Parrot, also known as the Chatham Island Kākā Parrot (Nestor chathamensis) coming up next for a days or a few weeks?!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍
cool vid....It is important to pronounce this birds name correctly, beacuse "kaka" means "shit" in Maori but Kaakaa is the bird so pay to lengthen out that "a" when you are talking about the bird
"Kaka to mean poo is often assumed to be Te Reo, but it's not. Kaka/caca does mean s*** in many languages throughout Europe, the Arabian peninsula and Indian subcontinent though." "Kia ora. Kaka in fact is the slang word we use for the word tiko."
Informative video. It's great your shining light on our native species. But could you please work on your pronounciatuon of Māori words. Unfortunately, you are currently butchering them. Taking the time to ask locals or learning the phonetic vowel sounds would help you alot. Otherwise, great video
Thank you! And yes, I've realised my pronounciations are not always to the levels they should be at. I hope to make all future videos free of this issue. :)
The tree Rata sounds similar like Car Car but instead you say Rar tar my ears hurt you saying these names incorrectly please just google the words in the Moari Dictionary on line and listen to the way it is pronounced then write it out the way you hear it instead of reading it with an english mind and falling back into mispronunciation

I cant believe there is a bird that sounds just like "caca" lol
Do people breed these birds? Can you own one in the United States?
No, as far as I know. They are vulnerable, so I woudn't recommend it. They belong in the forests.

They are too distinct enough, I believe.
