  • Quick video of the Packard Bell D160 from 1995/1996. Very similar to the Multimedia M400 I had growing up. I show you the boot process, the cd-rom drive, and the installed programs in the start menu. I love these vintage Packard Bells and their trendy cases ..

A friend just gave me this exact computer! He requested I wipe the hard drive so I did and installed Win98SE. That cool Packard Bell CD-ROM drive did not work so I had to replace it. The Cirrus Logic integrated video wasn't sufficient for me so I installed an 8MB PCI 3D card. Yours looks 100% stock and original! These machines remind me of the metal battery operated toy robots we had as kids...with the floppy drive and that little Seagate HDD clicking and grinding. Great fun!

      It's scary - I was 7-8 years old.

I have been trying to recall the GUI from an older computer, it was a path that had clickable icons along the path, one being the netscape navigator. It was sort of like the Packard bell navigator GUI, or shell replacement, but instead of a house, it was a path.
I am beginning to think that either I have memories from an alternate reality, or I dreamed it!

Those types of interfaces were popular in the 90s when computers were this amazing thing that you were encouraged to run your entire household around the family computer. It sounds familiar to me as well.

Computers were so much simpler before, and there were no stupid random updates that showed up all the time. Also, do you have a CRT monitor? I have one that I found and got it for free because I wanted one.

Very nice! I actually still have my old Packard Bell Legend 2440 and it still works. Oh btw, word of advice, turn off the light when looking at the monitor. Anyways, awesome trip down memory lane. ^.^

Got a 486/75 in 1996 with the same chassis.
Nobody remembers a chassis whoch was pointing opposite sides?
