Brilliant - what a great watch and far better use of my time than doing the ironing!! Happy New Year to everyone :).
Thanks to all the camera team weather on boats in helicopter s or in the office for bringing us these great images. The unsung heroes of the race starts whatever the weather !
incredible camera work in that weather
Ckass 40 fantastic great coverage, thank you!
merci
Class 40 absolutely rock! So much more relatable, than the other classes. Thanks to Pip and Andy!
They're becoming nicer with each year.
Totally agree with you !
I agree. Beats the crap out of AC boats!
Una delle più belle partenze cha abbia mai visto. Gente con la vera passione del mare. Scatenate i cavalli del Class 40!
Fantastico start! Good Wind ti everybody!
Thanks for the fantastic coverage
Fantastic to have Pip join, and lovely to hear Andy's voice again too
Superbe les gars....bon vent à vous.Jack
So exhilarating! Such sailing Warriors.
Amazing filming from helicopters!
Enjoyed the coverage and sailor’s input.
Brilliant commentary as always from Pip and Andy and Alec! Thank you
Fantastic coverage,thanks to all involved❤
stunning footage and commentary, the speed of the ultims, impressive, but the class 40 (start about 44min) and first mark rounding (60min) including mark touch, 2 collisions and a ripped mainsail. I feel for them, very intense!
Merci pour votre suivi du départ, moi français nous avons plus aucunes nouvelles des infos positives de ce style , merci encore pour the free, Ollivier.
Watching from New Zealand. Thanks for the race coverage.
Fantastic footage, great commentary. Thank you for putting this together
great pictures - and Pip is so good to hear.
Breezy day to start a 7500-mile race! 😮
Many thanks for your excellent coverage! It's impressive to see the Ultimats flying with TWO REEFS in their mainsail & just a STAYSAIL... It's also quite interesting to see the class 40 where you see boats with two reefs going as fast as the more adventurous who took only one reef in their mainsail 😮😮😮
Good job 🎉guys ✊
Sure looks like a lot more than 20 knots out there. Wish they had boat speeds, esp for the Ultimes.
Can't believe, that some of these experienced skippers touched the mark and hit each other, looks like an Opti race with 6-year-olds.
Really poor boat handling on several boats, like they were surprised to be at the mark.
Hey Claude. You wanna buy a rubber dinghy? We have hundreds of them over here. Vive la France!
I'm with you marcus, class 40 boats are like moto3GP motorcycle racers...... VERY close
class imoca
Great to hear Andy back! Got to know him thru VG reporting which was excellent. Hope he covers the next one!
I'm a little surprised the ama arms are not wing shaped with lift built in. The foil shape will be the most efficient, and building in some lift from the wind should help the boat to ride higher in the water. At the speeds they are moving, + the wind speed, I'd think the lift would be noticeable.
This is one of those sports where it more fun to participate than to observe. Wake me up when it is over, bye
Nice Targa fleet . 🇫🇮
Will there be a better start time for Imoca? The big stormes are coming....
aaah
I would like to see the class 40 yachts go up against the Sydney 40's in the Sydney Hobart Yacht race
Some really bad mistakes at orange bouy why risk being too close in wind, waves and current!
Indeed! And most of them quite unnecessarily.
Pirelli especially seemed just a bit too eager. Interesting also to see these 40s flying at unreal speeds, but then during a tack they are immediately dead in the water and take some time and leeway to pick up speed again, time and space some of them didn't allow for when rounding the buoy.
Also the crash at 1:02:19; seems like a classic port/starboard, but actually caused by a failed tack by Corum, who found themselves back on the original bow but unmaneuverable and with ballast on the wrong side. A real shame for the other guy who did nothing wrong, could not help this accident and also not avoid it, but will have to retire with (at least) a torn mainsail. Hopefully he can re-join in Lorient.
Commentators missed the collision at 1:01:40. God knows what some of these boats are doing.
looks like pirelli did not re round the buoy after hitting it
Are you on YB rmRaces too for us to follow?
what do sponsors get from financing these boats
Association with epic human endeavour, the fortitude and skill of the sailors and of course cutting edge technology.
why arnt maxis in this, they would smash this weather.
Merci encore , sauvez nous de Macron, au secours. Ollivier.
Can't the commentators see the pictures?
Well, clearly they could. But they did miss the unfortunate Class40 that was 'mounted' had a ripped main.
Parler français pour des Francais
Genau!
