Very informative! Thanks for taking something that could have been fairly convoluted and making it easier to understand. Line 6 should put you on payroll as they're missing the boat on how to make this pedal usable for their valued customers.
This vid game me a lot of info. I just got my POD HD 500 and don't know beans about it. I'm a big Shadows (Hank Marvin) fan so I'm trying to create a good Shadows patch. I really don't think there's much to it but its more than I can do right now. Hope you come out with some more vidz on the HD500.
Great advice and philosophy on set-up strategies. I was glad to see that the best way is the way I started with the amps first. It may take longer but eeking-out all the performance you can with the simplest number of devices is the way to go. One of the compelling reasons for buying this POD HD500 was that it had all the amp modeling and I was running through a great stereo system; versus trying to buy a guitar amp and fifty-odd pedals; I saved SERIOUS money!. So-Seriously, thanks again dude!
The amps are modeled...so they are simulating the sound of the real amps. Adding two amps allows you to combined the distinct sound characteristics of each amp. You see they run into a mixer and combine both sounds back together...just like you would if you were using real amps and mixing them back together for a live PA.
A lot of videos are showing how to work the hd500 from the board itself. I really think a computer should be hooked up to this thing not loose your mind scrolling through the menus on that small screen. A good tablet on a stand works too!
Hi, great video! The sound quality of HD pod is really satisfactory and I think i'll get one for live gigs. Please, I need your help - i want to know if you can use mic input, amp and FX for vocals and in the same time use line in with amp and FX for guitar? Can you save presets that have settings for both vocals and guitar? I can't find this information anywhere, so it would be very helpful for me and others singing guitarists if you would answer. Thanks!
Hey, awesome tutorial! One trick I've come across from many famous artists is splitting the amps by a fraction of a second to give a much fuller tone. Have you tried that out with the Line 6 POD HD500?
@Alexiaden93 I've done that with a stereo delay and then offset one side. You're right, it does make the tone wide and full. Do you have another way of doing it?
Good job and thanks. Can you make a preset for B.B. King tone and SRV. I would appreciate it. I am glad you confirmed to me this can handle high distortion but I want soft tone and also fat, mean, heavy tone but not so distorted. At least the SRV tone.
look at it from a real live perspective. If you were to put FX before an amp that will effect the sound only from the guitar and that is how we have always done it but the option for after the amp gives us more to play with. Imagine you have your sound that you like and you mic your amp. On that mic you put your effects and you will get a different sound because you are now effecting the whole sound. . Try it to get different tones and effects.
Hi, it it posible to at the looper only to one Amp? So that the Playback of the Loop only gets out on ONE channel "left" maybe and than play a Solo on channel "right"? Like a Simulation of two Guitarists! Is that posible?
I’m sure this is a stupid question but will this work on an iPad as well as a computer or does it have to be a computer? I just purchased the HD 500 X and have an iPad but no laptop or computer. Thanks for any advice
ok i just bought a pod hd500x and really dont get it yet at all!! I am going to ask some stupid questions! how are you getting the sound out of this? is your guitar plugged into the pod, which is USB'd to the laptop and then the sound is coming out through your laptop? told you it was a noob question!
The way I normally use it, I plug headphones to the POD headphone jack, Connect USB from POD to the computer. In your computer audio settings, select POD as both input and output device. Now, you can listen to the guitar directly from headphones. Also, the recording software on your computer (if any), will pickup the final POD output. Any tracks you are playing on your computer will also be played through your headphones.
I had trouble also. haha I have a Mac. So, you have to download all the software first. Using the line 6 monkey tool. Once you see everything is up to date, you change the audio on your computer, so the audio output and input are set to the device. You have the device plugged into your PC or Mac with the USB. Make sure it is in a main USB port. Then, plug a guitar into the device and an amp. You change all the settings for the device, through this program. I mean, you can if you choose. I like it more through the Mac. Easier to see. Then, when you change the sounds in the program, they will change on the device. You play guitar and hear the sound you made through your amp.
Great video. When I plug my HD500 to mi laptop, I can't get it to "sound". How do you hook it up so you can hear what your modeling? Do You have a program like pro tools, or logic to actually hear the HD500? Thank you.
Surprisingly yeah, most of pod's stuff doesn't work as a stand alone sound device. I normally just pull up fl studio, change the sound driver then make one of the inputs pod and all is well. That's what I've found to work.
This is the same as all the others on amps and effects. It is titled bringing in the variax. Whole video had about 30 seconds on the title. Would someone please do something different and talk more about using a variax with the POD in the mixer section.
Crunchy tone! I get that when the power cord falls out of the back of the unit. 8 weeks for service. Guitar center should be more clear when they want to sell you a product and warranty. Right now LINE 6 HDPOD500 SUCKS BALLS CAUSE OF A FACTORY DEFECT!!!! IN 32 YEARS I NEVER HAD A PWER JACK ON THE BACK OF ANY EFFECT PEDAL GO BAD, BUT LINE 6 THOUGHT THIS WAS QUITE ALRIGHT TO LET THRU QUALITY CONTROL AND LET ME DEAL WITH IT. RIGHT KNOW LINE 6 SUCKS!!!!
Just got back into my HD500 after too many years away and this was a great video to help me get back into the swing of creating sounds. Thanks man!
Great tutorial video--very helpful. And no distracting background music is an added bonus.
Best demo I've seen for the POD HD 500. I would like to see more demo like this one.
Wow. Just bought this. Didn't know this software existed. Makes everything a whole lot easier! Thanks!
This is the coolest vid I have seen yet on the Line 6. I am usually anti line 6 but this has me thinking again.
Thank you, that was a nice intro to the POD for me. Will buy one in the next few days
Im learning to use the HD500, this video taught me a lot, thanks a lot!!!
Thanks for the helpful video, you've got a great tone going!
Good stuff bro. I learned alittle more today. Using pod farm for a year now. Thinking hard on getting 500 hdx.
Awesome video. Very well explained
very good tone.

Nice job btw
@ken322able No reason why not. It has vocal presets, so that's a yes. If you want to put reverb or something on a drum track, just disable the amps.
Very good video...Thanks.

Thanks for the video! What’s the best way to memorize the patches with all these pedals and switches? How do you guys do this?

@killerpickerful You mean a real amp and cab or in the HD500

Actually I'm struggling with the same at the moment. Did you find a solution you could share?
Péter Deák sort of - what is your exact question?

Do you make your presets with headphones or through an amp?
How do you save the preset so you can easily recall the settings?
do you have any idea what the amp parameters do ?? master , sag, hum, bias, bias x ???

Thanks a lot! I tried FL studio and it DID work!
Keep on rockin'!

can i get a simmilar tone with the pod hd 400?
This is the same as all the others on amps and effects. It is titled bringing in the variax. Whole video had about 30 seconds on the title. Would someone please do something different and talk more about using a variax with the POD in the mixer section.
Where and how do u get that software???
And how much does it cost??????
PLEASE I NEED AN ANSWER!!!!! Thank you
How about Keyboards?
You can download it directly from Line6.com website, downloa section.
why can't i download line 6 edit
funny you say not to turn it up an make mush but that's exactly what you did.

To.much gain man. Can't get the clear notes .place a compressor and lower the gain to 45% . Then you can get a good tone
