I've got a 2004 model. It's my oldest and it'll never leave my collection. Fantastic guitar
Awesome! Thank you for the comment
Nice I have an 05🤗
I have an ‘03 or ‘04
@@JohnSmith-gu6ii Ye, me too
I have the 2017 version of this guitar and I also use the Thomastik .011 flat wounds.
After that there aren't really any upgrades that are required but you can always adapt these guitars to suit a new style or preference. One of the great things about this Ibanez line is that it is a great guitar to modify.
Great playing, especially your take on "Wave".
Thanks for the nice comment and sharing your experience! Cheers
I just got an AF95FM with an ebony fretboard. The first thing I did was put on a set of D'Addario EXL110W strings. This set has a wound 'G' string. I like a wound 'G' string to get that classic jazz tone. I'm 71 years old and I've played guitar since 1961 when I was 9. Over 20 years ago I bought a Guild X-500. That was a beautiful guitar. My AF95 isn't a $3000.00 Guild but it is a sweet guitar. I highly recommend.
Nice! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience! Indeed I see a lot of experienced players using these guitars, specially for gigging and playing sessions. I also wouldn't feel like bringing a $3000 Guild to that shaddy gig at the local pub, so the Ibanez comes in quite handy in this regard.
Very helpful. Thank you for the best Ibanez AF75 review on internet:).
Thanks for the nice comment! Very encouraging
Great playing. Antonio Carlos Jobim was a genius.
Totally! Thanks for the nice comment!
Man i am obsessed with this guitar shape, what i really love the most is how aesthatic that big pickguard looks floating there like a master architecture building, i got myself an AFS-75T and it's one of the best purchases i have ever made in my life, great video my man.
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad to hear you're having fun with the guitar. It's a great instrument!
Awesome Review and great playing!!
Thank you kindly!
I have a newer AF75 made with basswood. Replacing the bridge with ebony and Thomastik 13’s really brought it to life with great jazz tone and more acoustic volume.
Thanks for the nice comment and tips
Thanks for the great demo! Well thought out and very informative.
Thanks a lot for the comment! Glad it was helpful
Great playing, and great review! I like your suggestion of adding flatwound strings!
Thanks! Glad to be helpful
Oh boy, so beautiful your playing guitar!
Thank you for the kind comment!
Very good review video!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great Review man!

Great presentation, thanks for that. Already whant to buy it.
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice and detailed presentation.
Thank you very much!
I Have a AF75-BS-12-01, just played out today and love this guitar. Playing lead agents some minor cords. It sounds great playing straight into a board or playing into my Fender Blues Junior.
Thanks a lot for the comment! Indeed lots of people seem to enjoy pairing this guitar with a Fender Blues Junior
Maestro review! 🤩
Thank you kindly!
I played this guitar today at a guitar center. It's gonna be my new guitar for sure
That's great to hear 😊 hope it inspires you as much as it inspired me
Nice review. Helpful.
Thanks a lot for the nice comment!
De maravilla qe buena musica sigue subiendo mas videos
Gracias Diego! Sigo trabajando en más videos siempre que tengo tiempo livre ;-)
Good review and demo, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
There's one for sale in the neighborhood, brown sunburst
very good ! thank you for the video. Obrigado :)
De nada ;-)
The Bedroom Jazzer... nice.
Nice work, thank you
Thanks for the kind comment! Have a great day
yeah, I have one of these, blue. plays good.
Very good review! You covered all the right topics and played the examples exceptionally well. I love these guitars even though I own some high dollar jazz guitars. I have owned 4 of the Ibanez AF75 guitars and still have one. Great finish, great neck and excellent fretwork rivaling two- and three-thousand-dollar guitars. Fairly decent tone with the stock pickups. Tone and volume controls should be replaced. I think one of the best made guitars under $500 US.
Thanks a lot for the comment and glad to know the video was helpful. Yes, I agree with you, they're really well made and sound incredible for the money, but indeed electronics would be the first thing I'd upgrade
Your rendition of Wave gave me chills. Super awesome phrasing
Thanks for the nice comment ☺️
Great Guitar. It's on par with my Gretsch.
Can't remember last time I played my Strat. Say no more.
cool video, i'm gettig one nxt week. havnt even played it. from australia
Niiiice! Hope you'll enjoy it
I liked that u used Brazilians songs, so good
Obrigado ;-)
great video! keep on jazzing! ;-)
I'm glad you liked it :-P
Good video bro
Thanks for the support bro!
Love this! I have the AF75 is Whiskey Burst also with Thomastik 11 gauge flats and my other F75 Flat Black with Thomastik 12 gauge flat wounds. For me the 11 gauge sounds better! Yoiu play really good man! I also use pentatonic most of the timew but now learning other scales such as mixolydian as I really want to learn jazz. I run mine through my DV Mark IV amp. Really admire the way yoiu play! You have a new subscriber! Cheers!
Thanks a lot man! Yes, the strings make a huge difference. Playing scales is a great way to start, but ultimately you want to nail the chord changes and understand which notes to play to describe the changes and accompany the chord progression. It's a tough job... also working on it
@@TheBedroomRocker1 well , it's not totally wrong to mix in some scales to connect arpeggios or single notes of the chords.
Scales are the highway, arpeggios are the exit ramps
Just today removed my AF75 from its case and tuned it up. Sounds pretty good and I agree that the pickups, especially the bridge, can sound pretty bright. Still a nice feeling guitar and fun to play. Glad I have one. FWIW mine was made in China in 2004.
Thanks for sharing
It sounded expensive to me. I like it. Please do more videos....
Thanks for the reply! I'm working on it ;-)
Excellent review, Clear concise comments, highlighting the Pros and cons, what you would change, and what with. I was originally looking for reviews for the Ibanez AG75G BS Artcore. Have you had experience with this Ibanez? I would like to hear your opinion.
Thanks for the comment! I don't have experience with the AG75, but I'd assume it's of similar quality and pros/cons as the AF75. I think the AG has a bigger and different body shape with a shaper cutaway, so it should be louder when played acoustic but more prone to feedback when plugging in.
Similar to my Ibanez ag85 except mine has a Florentine cutout. Yours sounds better.
I have the 22-fret AF75. Now it seems they only produce 20 frets. I share almost everything. I changed the bridge to a rosewood one and I feel much better especially in acoustic there are no annoying metallic noises and the guitar has more volume. It also seems that the pickups are more defined I have put alnico 2 pickup and push pull on volume to switch into single coil
Sound great!!!
Yes, I bet changing the bridge could make a good difference to this guitar. It's actually a good mod platform as they're relatively affordable (even easy to find them used) and then slowly invest in better parts as you go.
I have the 22 feet as well
I have been looking at this guitar for a while, I definitely enjoyed your video. Is there a way you could tell me every song you played in this video
Thanks for the comment! It sure is a very nice guitar! The intro song is "so what" and the bossa nova in the middle is called "wave"
Great review!
I own this (but the left-handed variant, which sadly is no longer produced..). The review here focuses on jazz, and for that the suggested strings and pickup upgrade might well make a lot of sense.
But this guitar is also excellent as an "all-rounder". It's loud enough without amplification so you can use it as an acoustic for practice. Well setup it is excellent for blues (and that is my main use of it so I have D'Addario EXL-110 (010-046) strings on it). I run it into a 15 watt Fender Blues Junior, and I think that combination takes pedals fine (although this is not my best competence..).
If you get one of these you should definitively have it properly set up to fit your preferred string, genre of music and style of playing. I have mine set with a low action and its playability is excellent in my opinion.
I agree with the reviewer on his comment on the tone controls - nothing, nothing, nothing.. then BOOM! Reviewer says this is no that much of a problem for jazz, but for eg blues it is a bit disturbing. I am considering getting help from a electronics-competent guitar technician to see if this can be bettered without changing the overall characteristics of the pickups.
Sideshow: If you own this and want to play Chicago style blues on it into a Fender Blues Junior, then try to find a T-Rex Atlanta overdrive (and don't "dime" it but set it moderately). The T-Rex Atlanta seems to be out of production, but I am considering finding a used one just to have a spare/backup. That's how good I think it is!
Thanks a lot for the comment and detailed tips! Regarding the pedal, do you mean T-Rex Alberta? I haven't found anything about Atlanta, but I use a T-Rex Alberta II overdrive and it's an amazing pedal inspired by the legendary tube screamer
@@TheBedroomRocker1 Yes, the ALBERTA and nothing else. Mea Culpa! I have my eyes on the alberta II, drooling... Playing with the amp on bedroom settings i hope I can set one channel to stand in for a just slightly driven amp (just barely breaking up) and the other to something a bit more distorted.
Tl/dr rant: I also have an MXR DynaComp in the chain and I think the two works excellent together. Add a barely noticeable chorus (like you can't distinctly hear it, but when you turn it off you notice the difference and something missing) which I keep constantly on a lot. Chorus is like perfume - a miniscule amount can improve things, but add too much and it turns your stomach inside out ;-)
Sometimes I punch in a phaser to get something different. A TC Electronic Flashback delay set to minick a tape echo machine, a TC Electronic Polytune and a power supply to feed it all sums up my essential pedal board. Off board I might use a volume pedal, and a very old, very wonderful, Morley wah.
Honest review.
Thanks for the nice comment
You bet.@@TheBedroomRocker1
Muito bem! Obrigado.
Obrigado pelo comentário e um ótimo dia!
Happened across your site while browsing hollow bodies. Very well done. What is your music background? Formal, self taught?
Thanks a lot for the nice comment! I learned with a private teacher for some eight years starting back in high school, but I never had a formal music education. For the past years I've been mostly self taught and looking materials on the internet. For Jazz, I joined a Facebook group called "Play Jazz Guitar". It's led by Matt Warnock and he's a pretty good teacher. Every week there's some basic material for free and exercises/challenges/tunes. All the tunes from this video were originally recorded for the weekly challenges. If you want to buy additional material like tutorials and deep dives into standards, they are also excellent! Check it out: facebook.com/groups/playjazzguitar
I'm selling mine to a deserving mate - he's gonna love it. Great value and I've set it up with Chromes 12-62 flatties. 😜
It's pretty cool to sell a nice guitar to a buddy 😀 hope he enjoys it
It's actually an Archtop Acoustic-Electric
Great review! Does it sound good with no amp? I really like hollow body electrics that can be played as an acoustic guitar.
Yes, it does sound good acoustically. It's not a high-end archtop guitar with a solid top and it's also not a huge acoustic box, so it's not as loud as an acoustic guitar. However, I very often play this guitar acoustic only while sitting in the sofa and relaxing and also for practicing late in the night
@@TheBedroomRocker1 Yeah I'm just wanting the general acoustic sound but not an acoustic guitar. I know acoustic-electrics exist but I really just don't want one for some reason. I much prefer hollow bodies over acoustic-electrics. Thanks for the fast reply!
My AF75 has the tailpiece that is not as ornamental as this one. I've only seen a few with the tailpiece like mine. It's the same general shape but doesn't have crisscrossing bands.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I think there is at least two versions of this tailpiece
Very nice archtop, but the finish, top third of the body has too much black, which should be sunburst, otherwise great guitar. (Thanks for your valid points about the strings & pickups, though it sounds pretty good as is.)
Thanks for the comment, but the color scheme is actually quite traditional for archtop guitars like old Gibsons
Thanks for this, it was interesting. Can you please explain why the Ibanez website says it’s made of Linden (basswood, I suppose) but you, and various websites say its Maple?
Thank you for the comment. You are right about it... I took the specs from Thomann's website and it says Maple, but indeed Ibanez's website says Linden, which is basswood... I'm gonna see if I can find it out. I am not very good at identifying wood types. Since this guitar is manufactured since 2002, there is possibly that woods and specs changed throughout the years
Thanks for your reply, that was quick. It looks as though the newer version is now Linden wood I guess.
Lovely! Is there a link for the backing track the last section (minute 530 onward?) Will really help!
Thanks for the nice comment! That is a famous jazz / bossa nova standard by Tom Jobim called Wave. Just search on UA-cam and you'll find plenty of backing tracks for it ;-) enjoy the jam!
Hi. Great video. but model AF 75 is larger than the model AG75? Thank you
Yes, that is correct. The AF has the traditional full body dimensions while the AG is slightly smaller, but they both have the same depth.
how does this gutiar sound with effects ? like chorus, delay, tremolo or reverb ? I really like this guitar, I like playing guitar with clean tones :) thanks for the video !!
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I use this guitar predominantly for clean dry tones. I haven't tried many effects to be honest... I tend to use amps with Reverb (Peavey Classic 20MH or Victory V40) and it sounds good with both. It also sounds pretty good with my Mooer Ensemble King Chorus! This is an excellent and cheap chorus based on the Boss CE-2, but with the addition of a volume/mix knob
@@TheBedroomRocker1 Thanks for your answers!!! I heard that this types of guitars do not pick up the effects very good (if that makes sense) so I was considering this guitar or maybe a semi-hollow ibanez
Hello there! Nice review! What would you prefer between this and the gretsch g2622t? Seems to me the latter has a richer sound than the former. What do you think of that?
Thanks for the comment! I haven't tried the Gretsch, but they are quite different beasts. The Gretsch is a semi-hollow construction, which means that it has a center block that helps to prevent feedback. It also has the Broad'Tron pickups, which are a modern and more versatile take on their classic Filtertron pickups and the Bigsby. I think it's a more flexible instrument that is going to be better suited for rockabilly, country, and also handle more gainy blues and rock tones quite well. On the other hand, Gretsch tones tend to be too bright and sparkly for jazz. The Ibanez is a straight full hollow body guitar designed to produce mellow and woody jazz tones. It really depends on your style...
@@TheBedroomRocker1 Thank you so much for the precious answer. To be honest I am not a jazzman and I don't intend to play jazz (for now), but I really like the sound of jazz guitars. I was originally attracted to single coil tones, but I felt something was missing, in terms of richness of sounds (also I don't love the strat and tele aesthetics). Bu then I discovered the gretsch and I think maybe that is the right guitar for me. I am also a newbie in the guitar world, so there's still lots to be known.
@@TheSaladino97 You are welcome! I would only recommend this Ibanez hollow-body if you are really going into the jazz direction. I am not a jazzer as well, so I would not spend loads of money on a jazz guitar and jazz boxes can get quite expensive... this Ibanez is a life-saver in this sense. The Gretsch is surely a much more versatile guitar. I do not have much experience with Gretsch, but they look cool and they're renowned for their excellent quality-price relationship. Another possibility is to look for any model inspired by the Gibson ES-335, which is a semi-hollow construction with a center block like the Gretsch ... I think the Epiphones ES-335 Dot are quite decent and the Sheraton II as well. As a beginner, I would also recommend you to look what your favorite guitar players are using... inspiration is very important as it is what makes you grab the guitar and practice
@@TheBedroomRocker1 With that in mind I thought of the Ibanez AS-53, but then I just heard the quality is not that good anymore. Really a shame since the Ibanez brand had such a good reputation. My AF75 is built like a tank, love it and never had a problem. Great video and playing.
2:26 Acoustically it's rather loud, sounds like they must have used a strong solid top, but mine has special made Feedback Free Pickups.
Thanks for the kind comment! Which pickups are you using?
@@TheBedroomRocker1 Mine are Feedback Free EMG Pickups
Are you using those 11 gauge flatwound strings for this demo?
Yes, I am. Thanks for poiting it out. I should have made it clearer in the video
Is this guitar good ?
I m looking to now
Used one $300
I really like and recommend this guitar. It's also great value-for-money.
I have literally been on the internet all day trying to find out the purpose of the 4 knobs cannot find "any" info on the Ibanez Semi=hollow.. I usually play acoustic. Its like everyone assumes you know which is the volume control and which is tone for the four knobs. No one explains it as if you are new to the this guitar.
That's a good point. They're usually the same in most electric guitars. You get 2x volume and 2x tone controls (1 for each pickup). Tone control switched up gives you a brighter sound, while turning it down gives you a more mellow and dark sound. Besides that you have the selector switch that switches between neck pickup, bridge pickup, or both pickups together. I hope that helps. Cheers!
Im a old band guy who played drums for 45 years in bands but always dabbled in learning guitar,,alway get frustrated because i dont have long skinny fingers,,friend said find a guitar built on a goson size scale and it will be easier to play especially if i have it set up properly,,,i have a offer to buy a used af75 for 200,,hes been asking 350 but after no cash in hand offers he accepted my 200 offer,,going to pick it up tomorrow...hope it plays well and is easy to make those dreaded bar chords i have trouble with
Best luck with the new guitar! The setup is indeed very important to get a butter smooth playability
yeah, /seymour duncanm bentedetto.
Those pups sound like p90s
It's a rockabilly guitar not a jazz guitar I have one orange
Yeah, it can definitely do some rockabilly as well!
No, the obvious choice would be Super 58s. They are good enough for George Benson, Pat Metheny and John Scofield. They are good enough for you.
Yes, these pickups definitely have some of a reputation although I've never tried one. They're not as easy to find though...
This is all fake !! I have the same guitar and it does not sound at all like this when I play !! I want my money back ! 😉
hahah thanks for the comment!
in some cases it's not the guitar, its the player🤷🏽♂️
Listen Ibanez: no more guitars produced in China. China supports the war in Ukraine .
USA is the biggest supporter look how much money we give them. Besides Mr bank account and business in china trump said he’ll end war before he’s elected so should be over any day now ….. lmaoo what an idiot that big baby is
