Hi Zdenka, I have the OM2, OM3, and now the OM4. I have played with the OM4 now for about a week and done all my usual shots with the OM4 and found the stronger gyros made a great improvement when moving quickly and roughly. Also I use extra specialty lenses and once balanced the OM4 handles the extra weight very well with no shaking. That alone is worth getting the new one. I really like the magnetic mount because I am constantly moving the camera from gimbal to tripod, to mono pod/selfie stick. The battery life seems to be a lot longer even with the stronger gyros. PS Keep up the good work and I like that you do not talk as fast as most Vloggers. Its mush easier for us to understand your message.

There's a trick to removing the phone from the gimbal. Hold the OM4 at the top end of the base and use one finger to hold the bottom motor steady. Use your other hand and wrap it around your phone. Pull on one side of the phone and voila! Works every time with little to no stress to the OM4!

I might upgrade. I hate having to connect the OSMO 3 and then put it back on my phone, and then take it back off just to do an adjustment or upload a video USB.

I just ordered this and also have ordered iPhone 12 pro. I have bought and returned two other gimbals because I had so much trouble using and learning them. I have watched so many of your videos and am glad to hear that you say it’s a good beginner gimbal because for some reason, learning how to use these does not come easy for me. No matter what mode I’m in they always seem to drift one way or another when I’m following my subject; usually one of my kids at the skatepark. So I am praying that when it arrives, everything works and I have learned enough from your tutorials to make decent videos of my kids. Thanks!

I am glad you mentioned that Android has limitations with Mobile 4 app/functions. I have the Samsung Note 10+. I am a newbie with gimbals and purchased a couple of them on Amazon. I couldn't use them, because my phone is too long and won't rotate all the way around so I returned them. I saw the Mobile 4 and was excited about the magnetic clip, I hate stretching phone clamps, the super easy auto calibration and the recording features. Now I am disappointed some of the Mobile 4 app features won't work with my Note 10+. Guess I will contact DJI to inquire when there might be an app update for Android. Your review is the only one I've seen about the Mobile 4 that informs the user about the Android issue, and I've watched a lot of Mobile 4 vids. Thanks so much for your honest review.
Update 9/17/2020: I contacted DJI about the Mobile 4 app and Android issues. The tech did confirm some features will not work with Android and seems to be across the board for all Android phones. I asked if he knew when an app update for Android might be available. He said there isn't an update planned for the near future that he is aware of, but to keep watch on DJI's website for an announcement if an update should become available. I was so excited about the Mobile 4 and was disappointed to hear this. This is a deal breaker for me. 😌
Great video! For me the OM 3 is just fine and since it's cheaper now it represents a much better value IMO! I actually prefer the more traditional clamping method for the phone on the OM 3.
Probably that is my regret because I bought osmo 3 like 3 weeks before 4 came out so I paid like 139 and now it is around 119 for the combo 😅😅

I think that the biggest upgrade between the Osmo Mobile 3 and the OM4 is the convience of the magnetic mount system. You can switch phones and attach lenses easily, and you can also switch between phone use and camera use easily. For the former, this is very important if you want to capture moments before they pass by.

Just a heads up: kind of together with OM4, Filmic Pro released an update which now finally supports all Osmo Mobile Gimbals, OM1 to OM4, including OM3 which had long been overdue. I think I will keep my OM3 for a while, OM4 is less of an update, but the magnetic clamp sounds convenient, it perhaps makes it easier to remove the phone when you need it...

Krisztián Hildebrand Thank you for this note. I was looking into Filmic Pro support for Osmo when buying DJI OM4 and was upset that at the time it still only supported Osmo 1 & 2. It’s great that Filmic finally updated their app!
I am not 100% confident about OM3 support, there are minor glitches still, eg when using the selfie camera, OM control buttons are reverse :) Otherwise a great step forward.

Thank you for this review. I just bought the Osmo 3 a month a go and was wondering whether it was worth the upgrade. Although the magnet feature is cool, I was more interested in the new features such as the 3 picture Pano Clone-Me. I just opened my Osmo 3 and all the new features are there. 😁

Filmic Pro has been upgraded to have greater functionality with DJI Osmo gimbals.
Sadly, not really. With the Mobile 3, happened some development tool changes, so they still work on upgrading the app. Many phone manufacturers make their devices closed and limit the functionality of the cameras to the stock app in the OS.
Yeah, we picked it up, too, and didn't find it to be much of an improvement over the 3. And the clips/magnet won't work with even our basic protective cases, so we got a little caught in being an early adopter on this one. Glad we just tried out the one.

Yes as it was filmed in automatic mode as most users would.... that is a result of variable frame rate

I went from OM3 to Aochuan Smart XR and then to OM4. For me, the magnetic phone holder is the charm! The phone snaps on and off with no fidgety balancing each time! That, and it works with Filmic Pro. Very cool! 😎
Thank you Zdenka. OM4 is my first gimbal and so far I find it is easier to operate than others I tried. Appreciate your tip to gently remove phone from magnet. Agree that phone holder adds weight to phone and makes it awkward to hold. Taking it on and off is a pain as it has to by carefully aligned For optimism benefit.

Hi! I am Sanjiv from India again. Kudos for being honest, unlike many shallow reviewers, with this new gadget. My biggest complain with it is that there is no button to cycle through different modes. You have to do through app. Unbelievable! So buyer is now stuck with native app!
Secondly, a very powerful feature of gimbal is fully locked mode, which enables fake crane shot etc., but DJI decided to minimise its use, so they gave a trigger button for this. One has to keep it pressed to avail the FL mode! (Other makers associate trigger to Sports mode ).
I would be very surprised if this model succeeds.

Most fair review. Yes agree about "for beginer etc..". I am trying to believe that thay put detachable phone holder to accomodate the single phone users. That they still can do answering the phone call while use the gimbal without thinking of rebalance it after or do answer the phone with the gimbal still attached 😁 (that is smooth 4 ofer based on some reviewer). But... use strong magnet? Wow, i have many issue on magnetic things getting close with my cell phone. Start from decrease of signal reception and blackspot on LCDs. And now strong one?

This is the first review that I've watched that even bothered to mention the difference between IOS and Android in the mimo app, having had the OM4 for just under a week I can now stop searching for settings that aren't there! I've now filled in my return to Amazon for a refund. Not being able to shoot in manual mode is a total deal breaker for me. I have to say that I'm surprised there's such a difference between the 2 operating platforms especially when you consider that there are more Android users worldwide than IOS, DJI (IMO) are being underhand by not mentioning that even though your phone may appear on their compatibility list, you still can't utilise all the features. Anyways, great review Zee and thank you !!
I can't understand why the app is not the same for both to . I have om3 they updated the app for it and as far as I can see you get all the same things on the app now

A very complete and technical comparison. However, I think that the upgrades which emphasize convenience IS worth the upgrade. That's just my two cents.

I glued the little puck directly to a case. It’s worked fine for me.
I prefer the zhiyun smooth q for live-streaming (which I do a lot). The om4 is frustrating when not using the app

This made me get an Osmo mobile 3 instead and happy to have done so. Quick thoughts on the ultra-wide seeing a part of the gimbal, you can move the camera part of the phone away from the clamp but you will need to purchase a counterweight that screws on the part of the gimbal behind the clamp.
note: I just realised you did talk about the counterweights but just for the additional lenses

I have a gimbal for my Canon G7X2. The setup is too slow, the device is too complicated and cumbersome for me. I’m guilty of not planning my shots instead flying by the seat of my pants. There is no question that the smooth shots show more detail and are pleasing to the eye. Using a gimbal with an advanced iPhone may eliminate need to use more expensive equipment. I also like to shoot trade shows where crowds may accidentally damage my equipment. I just can’t bring myself to use them. I do fly drones and for me that’s easier.... I have and use an M50 and an 80D with great lenses for them. I thank you for making this video!❤️

I never realized I was missing out on so much using an android phone. I don't want to switch to apple as I prefer the more powerful/accurate cameras available in certain android devices. Fingers crossed they update the android app and include the extra features. Thanks for your in-depth, quality review. Between your review and the 40% price increase over the OM3, I'm keeping my OM3 for now.

@@ZdenkaDarula I spoke with tech support this morning. I have the OM4 and Mavic Mini. Neither DJI device works with my Galaxy S21. Tech support said "they are working on it", but I have also read an article indicating that DJI intentionally emulates the Apple ecosystem, which is notorious for being incompatible with Android devices.
I feel strongly that since DJI's apps quit working, DJI should offer a refund on any DJI device. They are supposedly a $15B company. They can make it work if they want to.
As you know, some gimbals have significant restrictions on Android phones.
I want to know which gimbal is the best fit for Android phones.
It is not just for Android phones... it depends which phone you specifically have. Check Aochuan RX

Mobile phone compatibility has always been an issue with apps, but I think that DJI has been able to resolve these issues gradually. Way better than other brands, if I may say so.

I think the magnetic clamp could be a good upgrade at first, but after knowing that magnetic can screw your phone led screen, gps, or hinder your wireless charging, etc.. I would rather they come out with a different solution than jump into the magnetic bandwagon. It would be more appropriate if they had a fully detachable clamp, where there wouldn’t be any magnetic but instead you can twist to lock & unlock the mount into place. That way, you can mount the phone easily as well without having to rebalance the phone again. This also gives an option if you want to take off the phone from the mount or take the phone off together with the mount.. this solution fits everyone’s style.

I felt the same way, lack luster at best. My first gimble was the mobile 3, I actually bought it a month ago. The ONLY reason I returned it and got the OM4 is because it was still within return period so for me it wasn’t an “upgrade” it was just buying the latest tech. Now with the mobile 3 it wasn’t a huge hassle taking the phone out or putting it in, however I plan to use the ring holder because it will replace my metal plate which I use for my magnetic phone mount in my car. So for me it’s worth the little metal ring holder. I don’t use lenses or anything. So it’ll work great for me. Otherwise I did expect a bit more from the mobile 3. If I wasn’t within my return period, I wouldn’t upgrade!
Thank you for this video. I use OM2 and OM3. I have big phones and they don't hit the arms/motors on my gimbals. If well balanced, weight isn't a problem.

In 11 Pro Max I was not able to see motors in ultra wide. Love magnet clamp as it makes it so fast to attach and detach phone. Instead of trying to pry the magnet from the gimbal, I used rolling motion and it seems to work better and require less effort.

Thats a great, unbiased review - especially for android and filmic pro users. Just like with the drones, DJI is a subsection of Apple now. A device like this should not "just about" work for Android - still, it leaves the door open for an android dedicated gimbal. Very honest Zdenka and very helpful.

Very information review (sans fausses déclarations par inadvertance). Good examples on using the devices. While others have reported gimball movement and noise issues, nothing as such was discovered during this presentation. Perhaps only time will tell since "fabriqué en Chine" takes a toll on model revisions/upgrades and, of course, supply chain logistics.
Stumbled upon the channel "accidentally" because I needed a practical review on DJI products since the company is blasting unsolicited tweets daily. The presentation style here does not have the hype, noise or superficiality that has become the norm for vloggers. The practical advice on photography techniques alone (setting aside the gadget reviews) is worth the FREE subscription! Many, many thanks for this channel from a viewer who cannot scale the ranks to become a "prosumer - professional consumer" for many different reasons yet still interested in learning new techniques and erasing bad habits in photography.

Ahoy! Good review I have the OSMO Mobile 3, and when I saw the OM4 I didn't see a need to upgrade. I updated my app and it now includes the new panorama picture mode and the dyna zoom. Great video!
Super informative Zdenka. I had purchased my Osmo Mobil 3 about three weeks before the om4 launched and at the beginning I felt like "oh man, maybe I should have waited". But the more I saw reviews, and after MIMO app was updated so we got the 2 new features, I saw that really beyond the stronger motors (which is great), there wasn't much of the difference. While the magnetic clamp sounds great for people that are filming on the run, my experience with osmo 3 is that after a few times setting up the phone, you kinda memorize how to put it on so it is perfectly stabilized. I did hope for at least that 24fps had been added to mimo (i'm an android user so I get stuck with auto mode, so I have to go to either native camera or use filmic pro or protake).

Zdenka, thanks for another great video. What I like about the OM4 is that it balances so much easier with my clamp-on anamorphic lens, Moondog lens adapter and ND filter (and even a lens cover!). The Osmo3, even using counterweights, couldn't handle all that in landscape mode. I shoot almost exclusively in Filmic Pro with my Iphone 7+, and I'm able to utilize the pan function, tilt function and the record function of the gimbal within FP's interface. I'm happy with that, because I doubt I would ever find a use for the panoramic mode, sports mode, etc. unless I was shooting a music video or something. There was one strange thing that happened before I upgraded the OM 4's firmware... FP and the DJ Mimo apps were in conflict with each other. If I attempted to shoot with both apps open, the recording function on FP began blinking on and off, and I was unable to stop it from recording anything. Once I upgraded, that went away... mostly. It works fine now until DJI Mimo goes into sleep mode, and then the blinking recording light starts again in FP. I have no idea why this happens... I've heard for some time DJI wants exclusive control of the smartphone with their app and is somehow "threatened" by FP, which, if true, is really pretty ridiculous.
I totally agree the app definitely needs an upgrade and it was a disappointment when I purchased the OM4. It still won't acknowledge an anamorphic lens, and it won't allow me to shoot in a higher 4k resolution with all the exposure options the way Filmic Pro does. If DJI could add those functions to their app, I'd switch over to their app in a second.

Thank you for the depth review! But have to say I'm very disappointed in OM4 and Mimo app! I just sold my OM2 and regret it. There's no long exposure mode, the panorama is very bad! I really hope they will fix all that.

I would raise 3 points though that you might like to comment on or expand/edit video to include.
FIRST not one reviewer has, as of 4th Nov2020, made any mention of the immediate ease of usage of this handheld device based on whether the user is basically Right Handed or Left Handed.
Its a glaring omission.
May I suggest you do a follow up video on this point.
SECOND I am told by DJI support that the latest MIMO Software version is a native 64bit code and for android phones needs a very recent OS version to work properly.
This may account for all the bad results and shocking 1star reviews on Google Play Store for this Mimo software.
THIRD
Re the magnet mount on back of phone i have read a few review that state either or both of the following:
A. The magnetic mount disk on back of phone creates issues to wifi charging when phone is off Gimbal.
B: when Magnetically mounted some phone screens suffer pixel issues due to magnet.
Disclamer: regarding the above I as yet have no first hand experience, as I dont get my unit for 3 days.
I do wonder if its worth paying the extra for extended warranty?
Lastly a few points not mentioned, as an Industrial Electronics Engineer of 50years work, I can get no clarity as to:-
1: expected battery life based on say 300 days per year for say 2 or 3 years? And is battery replacement easy? Or is the case totally welded closed.
2:- I read its not waterproof. But splash proof or light fine rain or mist can it handle these? What IP rating does it have?
3:- I wonder what normal extremes of temperature and humidity this unit can cope with?
Their consumer side website is so RAR RAR hype hype and next to no hard facts. Even the FAQ is very average.

Ahoj! Thanks for this honest review. Based on your previous review, I purchased the OM3. I am satisfied with it. The only advantage that I see is with the OM4 is the new holder, my cell phone with the enhanced rubber case could more easily fit.

I agree with you.. slightly underwhelming it really does seem like the OM3 with a mag modified mount. which does have its benefit but.. worth the upgrade if you have an OM3 I think not. Thanks for the review.

Great review! Got my OM4 today. I am a beginner, so it should be fine. But I do agree about the magnetic clamp. It's cumbersome. It doesn't fit my pixel phone with case properly. I have to take off the case to make it hold well. Will be using it over the weekend. Happy weekend everyone!

I had the original OM. Sold it. I decided to go for the OM4 several months ago. I do wish I'd have realized how limited the Mimo app was with Android and how limited the gimbal was with the native app. I've thought of getting Filmic Pro, but from what I've seen it is also more limited on Android than Apple. I have managed to use it a few times to film some flooring work for a friend. I guess I'll just have to learn what I can get the most out of the gimbal within the limitations while using the native Android camera app. I find that I need 24 fps and the ability to film in slow motion.
I absolutely understand what they are saying. Yes android phones are generally limited and DJ I have really makes it limited. You should look into the app filmic pro and film and that instead
Thanks for the quick reply. I think I will give Filmic Pro a shot. I was killing some time in a fairly empty Starbucks the other day. I pulled out my S21 (basic) and went into pro video mode. I set 24 FPS, 1/60th second and just adjusted the ISO. I did some short clips just panning slow, panning low to high, and even from behind an object to do a focus pull. All handheld. I was really surprised to see just how cinematic and smooth those simple clips were. Made me want to see what I could get out of my gimbal with some actual control over the settings. DJI seems to have great ideas and somehow manage to mess up some important details. Thanks again for the reply. Especially since this was video was from 2020. That says a lot for you as a creative. That and some really nice camera work. ;)
@@WolfQuantum you are very welcome. You can still film and native camera up just like you were describing and only use the gimbal to stabilize the footage. But a DJI is actually compatible with Filmic pro so that could really help you

I feel bad that you don't like the OM4. I think that the magnetic mount system is quite good. Of course, I don't use wireless charging but if ever I do I can easily use the magnetic clamp for this. I love its ease of use and intuitive gesture control as I am filming alone most of the time. In any case I respect your opinion but I hope that you'll change your opinion about it once you use it more.
