There was a large meeting there of a lot of African-American teachers here in NC in 1954. This was sponsored by the NC Negro Teachers Association. My mom the late Mrs. Jimmie Lou Tabor Steele was a teacher and a member of the North Carolina Negro Teachers Association. She came to the meeting with several of her fellow educators from the old all-black Central Davie High School where she was the assistant Librarian and also a 3rd and 4th Grade teacher. Central Davie was a graded school and had grades 1-12. Mom also taught history. She graduated from Livingstone College many years before this event. She remembered that the West Charlotte High School was new and admired the building. Also one of my best friends Bev. Glover-Logan and her brother graduated from West Charlotte HS as well.
