Shit happens. Don't beat yourself up. You two are an awesome team. Shit happened, you both made sensible decisions as a team, made a solid plan and handled a bad situation as best as possible, that's all you can do. Don't let "what if " influence your adventures. I'd rather be injured in the woods than at home too scared to be out there. You both kick ass, keep doing what you do!

So painful to watch. I had to fast forward to the rescue at the end, kind of like reading the last page of a book. Prayers for a quick recovery. You both showed bravery and strength. It’s hard needing the help of others for things you are used to doing yourself. Wow Erin was strong in the mental and physical challenges she faced. Great job to both of you and the partnership you have.

Hey Jon. I had a similar issue with my knee once. The cartilage in your knee is two interlocking "C" shapes that cushion the knobs of the upper and lower leg bones (not a doctor 😜). The cartilage can tear, and then the "C" opens up and can prevent full extension of your leg. If it doesn't go back in immediately, swelling sets in and it takes a few days before it will be able to re-align. A very tough injury to experience out in the woods!!

Hey Guys, injuries usually happen when they’re least expected. But as my mother used to say at 97, “It is what it is”. How can you not be proud of Erin, her courage, fortitude and caring was inspiring!!! Recovery is something that is hard. I spent the majority of 2022 bedridden, first, had my varicose veins removed, then a hip replacement, then pneumonia. I thought I’d need a knee replacement but the hip surgery took a lot of strain off my knee. The hardest thing was not being able to hike or canoe, but I got through it, and so will you!
Oh wow this was actually hard to watch I could almost feel it all. I really wish you a strong recovery Jon, seeing Erin pull you was pretty emotional. You two are an amazing team.
Erin is a rockstar. That was impressive. Kudos to both of you for maintaining your cool and dealing with this problem in a systematic and rational manner. Erin I hope you’re proud of yourself and although you don’t need validation from me, I sure was proud and impressed watching you. Good luck Jon on your recovery.
Thank you for documenting this. It is a great lesson for people in the outdoors. That even if you do everything right and r prepared (which u always are) that things can go wrong and out of your control. Most people prob would have just turned the camera off and told the story after. U and Erin r the real deal!! 👊
Always prepared? Not really he's forgot his dry foods several times and that's not the only thing that's left him unprepared. He is almost never prepared. What he is though, is a man of compromise and finding a way because of it. That's the farthest from prepared. It takes extra skills to make up for what you lack. And that he has. So half of your comment is entirely wrong. Try again. Dont tout this man for being prepared when even he knows he almost never is.
@@talesoftheblueeyedindian2412 You must be really fun at parties!! One of those eternally miserable people who has to point the negative things over the positive. Insecurity is not flattering my man….. It actually is comical to me that u can even find something shitty to say about John after this video. U my friend need to get a life!! 😂😂😂
I’m a 62 year old woman and have camped in very remote areas in the USA and Canada. Thirty years ago I got certified as a Wilderness First Responder and have been ever since. It has brought me much peace of mind to be able to assess, treat and rule out various medical issues and conditions for both myself and others when far away from civilisation. Congrats on getting yourselves out of a potentially very bad situation and good luck to both of you!
Omg girl, you did great hauling John out. What a tall task, and you did it. Awesome work. You saved his life and yours. Stand proud. John, l hope you get better soon. I wish you a speedy recovery. I love watching your videos. They are fun and informative. I'm looking forward to watching more in the future.
Jon, I certainly hope your recovery goes smoothly and you will be out doing what you love best soon. Erin, you are one hell of a trouper! I want to mention one thing to the both of you. Whenever you receive negative comments, whether here, or in other video's, remember one thing. It always says more about the person commenting than anything about you. Most always those come from insecure people. Best wishes - from Little Canada
Thanks for the reality check. Kudos to Erin for getting you out safely and not injuring herself in the process. I believe a Zoleo is in my future. I’ve spent my life in the back country, mostly solo, and have had many “close calls”. Can’t help but feel the clock it ticking until I find myself in a similar situation. Anyway, hope recovery continues and your spring / summer adventures are doable. Cheers.
It's amazing the strength we find within ourselves when the ones we love need help. Having a calm and cool head at times of stress reveal true character. You rock young lady!
Had a similar experience and was lucky to not be alone on that particular adventure. I typically head out on my own and being injured in the bush is humbling to say the least. Still trying to regain my confidence. Wishing you a speedy recovery. To say that Erin’s efforts were life saving is an absolute understatement. You are both impressive individuals but what she did ….mind blowing! She moved a mountain for you John but I believe you would do it for her in a heart beat! Be well, both of you! Sending much admiration from North Bay!
Thank you for showing this, I appreciated the vulnerablility we all share in relationships especially with mother nature...I appreciated the calmness and togetherness in Erin taking the lead...Best of Recoveries to Jon..
You guys are locked into each other! What a fit. You speak your observations and learnings out loud so us viewers can’t let go, waiting for you to pass on the next tidbit. You are so grounded and think beyond your years. Just being yourselves is gold! Our planet needs more Jon and Erin’s to quietly lead us by example. Keep doing what you’re doing and be well!
Omg! Loved this video and meeting your buds. Not that I don't mind your solo trips or Erin! I definately miss Ontario when I watch your channel...thanks!
Thank you for sharing this. I have a torn meniscus and I experience “lockout” where I can’t straighten my knee or put weight on it and that’s extremely scary at home. I can’t even imagine being out there and experiencing that. I hope you recover quickly!
Bravo! No fun, but your analysis of situation and options should help people who have not dealt with a mid-trip accident. Well done. Wishing Jon swift recovery (and good to hear you acknowledge Erin’s efforts.)
Erin you are a legend! Well done. Jon I hope you’re on the mend. It was a bummer hurting yourself while out doing the things you love. It’s 39 degrees C in Sydney, Australia today and I’m enjoying seeing the cold snow. Take care.
Erin has your back, she rocks! :) :) I was on the edge of my seat when you started vocalising in pain. Wasn't sure what was happening, at first thought you went through the ice. :( I am sure it will be an eye opener for a lot of people and just how easy things like this can happen. When I took a winter survival course years ago they told us this kind of situation is why most people spend a night out in the woods, injury was more common than being lost. :( Hope you are feeling better but bet Erin is taking good care of you! lol Thanks to you both for sharing this incident! :) :)
I’m so happy that y’all are ok. John, many of us have known about your bum knee, so while this is terrible and I can only imagine the pain… The take away for me after watching you (almost from the gitgo) is that you are no light weight. Good to witness this happen so no one takes being out there lightly and is something to pay attention to. Erin, you, my dear…you are my hero. Your partnership has been so sweet and solid. No one could ask for a better mate/friend than you are. From the beginning you have ‘fit’ with John and I was thrilled when y’all committed to make this a lifetime partnership. God bless you both as you go forward:)
Pretty much a metaphor for all us married guys who see things as they really are. Beautiful production despite the challenges BTW. Speedy and complete healing.
First, Jon, I'm so glad you were able to get medical help. Second, Erin, you are such a strong woman. You not only used physical strength, but you stayed calm. I am sending lots of quick healing wishes. We have never met but know that we care. You both are two of my absolute favorites. 💛💛
WOW ERIN!! You go girl! How lucky for Jon that you were there.. but then, you dont normally have skiis on .. so its a combo of great misfortune and great luck.
Respect your decision not to call emergency services. I'm of the opinion that they are the last resort only to be used after every other avenue has been exhausted. Too many folk call 999 (here in the UK) for the slightest of issues.
glad you are ok man! But this sir it is not a poutine ! Sorry! I m from Québec and if someboby serves you a poutine like this, he going to jail:) Get up the good videos man, I love your channel!
Damn. I'm surprised Erin was able to pull you all that way. Did you play rugby or were you a rower or something? Most women probably couldn't hoof that much weight in a sled 5KM.
Erin what a hero 🦸♀️ it’s amazing what we can do when we have to this was actually a great video to put out , it brings home just how quick things can go pear shaped … so glad you were set up and had some were warm and cosy to spend the night and in my opinion you did the right thing Sending lots of healing vibes and look forward to seeing you back out in the woods in your canoe
Had this exact thing happen. It’s a torn meniscus. I would bet anything. Too late now but you can just yank it straight. It’s level 100 painful for a second but usually that fixes it.
We have great sympathy for your injury. Walking a neighborhood trail just after my retirement, I fell and parted the main tendon at the knee. Trying to get out did the same thing to the other knee. So then I had to crawl out the rest of the way through the blackberries to the road and a rescue. Six months in rigid braces. More than a year before I could hike again. My wife tore her miniscus just like you on a steep set of stairs accessing an old railroad trail. Getting her up the stairs and into the car alone was very hard. Again a slow recovery. We both caution you against reinjury. Easier said than done. So sorry for this monkey wrench thrown into your life. Here is an idea for a theme of a project you could work on in recovery. Access to nature for temporarily and permenently disabled people. You have the most magnificant partner ever! Wishing you good steady recovery.
Doesn’t that zeoleo device connect to your phone and you can’t text people. It also has an sos signal on it too. I’m not positive about that I figure I’d bring it up. I just seen a video on that and was thinking of buying one. Maybe not now though. I’ll have to look into it now before I buy it. 😂
Just watched and wow!!! Heartbreaking to know you’re down and out BUT, the camping gods were with you in making sure Erin was there alongside you! Cheers guys! Now, first thing we need on these trips is pain killer....that is liquid and comes in a bottle that reads something about what proof.....I appreciate your moderate consumption and self control, but sometimes you gotta put the hurt in the hurt, ya know!?? Much respect to your partner, highest level of respect actually....Epic job Erin!!!
After being relieved it wasn't an axe accident, it was a pretty bad knee accident. Erin was amazing getting you out of there, you are always safety conscious with your videos, which is important. I hope you recover quickly.
Had something similar happen to me. I had knee issues for a several months then one day it just locked up and trying to straight it felt like someone was stabbing it. Two doctors said it was tendinitis, i thought there's no way that would lock your leg up. Finally a football doctor saw me and immediately said you have a bone tumor. Sure enough after some test, they found that a bone tumor grew up through the tendon and locked the leg. Surgery was not the best, but healed and I'm still good today. Hope this helps and thank God for good women.
After tearing my meniscus in a very similar-sounding way and having it repaired, the weeks I was stuck in bed to heal left me watching your videos, and they kept me very entertained. Thank you guys for what you do and I'm wishing you a speedy recovery! (My guess is that the meniscus was torn years ago and that the way your knee turned flipped the tear out into the joint preventing it from extending)

Skills are the best preparation! At some point you can never haul enough junk into the woods to be ready for everything
Erin is a real one! Much respect to her for stepping up and saving the day.
One of the many, many, many reasons we love Erin! Quick healing John.
Thanks Cheryl!
Lucky he only weighs a buck 20
Wishing you a speedy recovery jon. That's a great life partner you have
Jon, I certainly hope your recovery goes smoothly and you will be out doing what you love best soon. Erin, you are one hell of a trouper! I want to mention one thing to the both of you. Whenever you receive negative comments, whether here, or in other video's, remember one thing. It always says more about the person commenting than anything about you. Most always those come from insecure people. Best wishes - from Little Canada
Greatly appreciate that Thomas 💚
Shout out to Erin!! Girl power!!! You guys are so cute together for real. Through thick and thin!! Wishing you guys the best always ❤️
💚💚
oh man !!! have to watch later after work but I hoping all is well! (but secretly wondering if Xander finally tried to take Jon out...🤔🤔😅😅)
Hahah we're safe :)
Jon as Nancy Kerrigan to Xander's Tonia Harding. Hmmm. 😮
@@gordthompson4664 haha!!😆
Thanks for the reality check. Kudos to Erin for getting you out safely and not injuring herself in the process. I believe a Zoleo is in my future. I’ve spent my life in the back country, mostly solo, and have had many “close calls”. Can’t help but feel the clock it ticking until I find myself in a similar situation. Anyway, hope recovery continues and your spring / summer adventures are doable. Cheers.
Can't recommend it highly enough...even if you just get the base plan for emergencies and the odd message or weather check. Thank you :)
Riddle : Lake Superior/Gitchee Gumee
Very much appreciated!
Erin is a warrior!.. uhmm remember the Ice Queen? I have never seen a woman take so much punishment and never complain.. she just kicks ass!
Hahah ice queen was equally impressive!
Hope you have a quick recovery, Jon. Looks like a torn meniscus. Cheers to Erin for handling everything and pulling you out.
Thank you for showing this, I appreciated the vulnerablility we all share in relationships especially with mother nature...I appreciated the calmness and togetherness in Erin taking the lead...Best of Recoveries to Jon..
Thank God, Erin was with you Jon, she was a real hero. I love watching your videos and I hope you have a quick recovery.
You knew when you asked her to marry you that she was awesome.. she's strong in more than one way.
Thank you so much Paul!
Now that's true love!☹ Yes...she's a real hero! Best wishes on a full recovery and you're back camping very soon.
Thanks Linda! 💚
Take care.
Hoping for a rapid recovery for you Jon! Big thumbs up for your rescuer Erin, she deserves a gold medal, well done!
Thanks a lot J! :)
I’m so happy that y’all are ok. John, many of us have known about your bum knee, so while this is terrible and I can only imagine the pain…
The take away for me after watching you (almost from the gitgo) is that you are no light weight.
💚💚
Pretty much a metaphor for all us married guys who see things as they really are. Beautiful production despite the challenges BTW. Speedy and complete healing.
First, Jon, I'm so glad you were able to get medical help. Second, Erin, you are such a strong woman. You not only used physical strength, but you stayed calm. I am sending lots of quick healing wishes. We have never met but know that we care. You both are two of my absolute favorites. 💛💛
Thanks so much Sally! 💚💚
Bummer! Maybe you need a go fund me to get you some timely and proper care!!
South of the border you mean I guess...interesting thought!
WOW ERIN!! You go girl! How lucky for Jon that you were there.. but then, you dont normally have skiis on .. so its a combo of great misfortune and great luck.
Speedy recovery and god bless erin ! Best Wishes from Germany
I’m convinced it was the Jesus juice that gave Erin that extra power! Erin for Prime Minister!! 💪🎉🍷
Hahah best you'll get in the backcountry ;) Thanks Jonathan!
Good woman, good partner, lucky guy!
Damn. I'm surprised Erin was able to pull you all that way. Did you play rugby or were you a rower or something? Most women probably couldn't hoof that much weight in a sled 5KM.
She's a strong gal :)
Erin what a hero 🦸♀️ it’s amazing what we can do when we have to
this was actually a great video to put out , it brings home just how quick things can go pear shaped … so glad you were set up and had some were warm and cosy to spend the night and in my opinion you did the right thing
Sending lots of healing vibes and look forward to seeing you back out in the woods in your canoe
Had this exact thing happen. It’s a torn meniscus. I would bet anything. Too late now but you can just yank it straight. It’s level 100 painful for a second but usually that fixes it.
I'd bet you're right
We have great sympathy for your injury.
Oh ya you can and we messaged some friends with snowmobiles but they couldn't come in time
Just watched and wow!!! Heartbreaking to know you’re down and out BUT, the camping gods were with you in making sure Erin was there alongside you! Cheers guys! We just learned of the Buy Me a Coffee and Neil and I are both members now… you two are our inspiration for learning the outdoors, so we will always support you both in any way we can 💙💚🤎 cheers to a rapid recovery 🍻
You two are way too sweet and generous! Thank you so much Billie...seriously many thanks to you and Neil 💚💚💚
@@LostLakes Ps Erin’s riddle: Lake Superior?!
glad you you got out safe . After you pick up your gear your going down the trail theres an arch and cought myself ducking lol
Jon, speedy recovery my friend. Let's hope this is just a bump in the road and you're ok long term.
Erin, just WOW! Incredible life partner indeed.
Good luck to you both. Keep us posted.
A real, true Thunder Bay Lady. Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing. All the Best Jon.
Get better soon Jon! Erin you are an amazing human with incredible strength! 🏋🏻♀️
yes you can dislocate knees.....I found that out playing tennis.......7 marble sized broken off pieces of bone and cartilage later....and one knee surgery....all good.....no more tennis for me....hope you are better!
Agh brutal :( Thank you!
Wishing you a speedy recovery. And much respect for Erin! Absolute hero!
OMG....so sorry bro, so sorry. Got my fingers crossed for speedy recovery.
😆😆 Thanks a bunch Scotty!
Wow. Glad you recovered and thanks for sharing!
