I'm also a kid of 65 years and I "play" with my trains most every day. Your solution for space for a layout is very well done. The backdrops look great, as does your finish work. Thanks for sharing.
It's not nerdy or little kiddish. It's a fine hobby. Been doing it all my life...even landed me in my current career as a conductor with Union Pacific RR. Keep highballin, sir!
Oh. My. Gosh. So glad I found this video!!!! The white noise is the BEST! I am totally building a ceiling layout for a small train. I have a layout in my basement but this, this SOUNDS so cool. No it’s not nerdy, or childish. It’s a hobby
This train install has become an awesome family time shared moment that will live on for a very long time that has planted the seeds of unity for you and your children..hats off..well done.
I just picked up an old vintage "O" scale 1949 Lionel from an estate sale that I want to put on a board, so I didn't know what I was going to do with my old HO scale train, but after watching your video I am INSPIRED!!!! Thank bud!
I am very happy you are enjoying it. I am almost 60 yrs old. i like to have one like yours. good job. fun fun fun... i have few toy RC cars and enjoying them as you are.
Well done young man ! This is by far the best looking shelf system I've seen I've been looking for yrs , my friend I am going to do this in my living room . Everyone that sees it will know about you and how you dreamed this up. Thank you very much for sharing this with us train 🚂 nuts 🥜!
I'm 71 and still love trains I have G scale running around my train room a spare bedroom full of G scale and also HO lay out the grand kids love the train room.
not nerdy at all pal, its actually inspiring because you have a hobby and are sharing it with your son. If more men had (non violent) hobbies such as model trains, remote control cars, model planes etc.... and were teaching them to there kids there would be a lot less kids in trouble and teens and grown men incarcerated. Just my two cents.
my 3 yr old tells you what each railcar is whether it be a tanker flat boxcar the way he says caboose is so cute. He's really smart went to yard sale one time looking for trains. ge has all kinds of them 🔋 wooden ones to. well he walked through the toys and come up screaming train station! we tyrned to look at him abd he had the station setup for his wooden ine and then turns to look at us and go need more track. i busted out laughing. cuz it's what u say all the time . have 3 scale myself. o ho and small n. ho huge. o scale need more track lol. same w/ n.
buddah bless well said and I couldn’t agree with you more. I am a 45 year old kid and I am about to build this same setup. I am not sure who will enjoy it more.. my son, my daughter or the big kid (me).
Good question! Mine isn't perfectly level because my ceiling isn't perfect either. What I did is measure down 9" from each corner of the room and then chalk line the marks all in together. As close as the shelf is to the ceiling it would look obviously wrong if I measured up from the floor or if I did it 9" down from one corner and then level. It would reveal my ceiling is off a bit.
Really a sweet layout. love the finished look of the corners. one pizzeria in my town has a ceiling train that for some time, only went back and forth on a short track then it finally was completed to go around the entire dining area.
having owned a train set as a child, I use to love setting it up and tearing it down to reset it up in another way. Throughout the years I have often thought about it and since moving to Wyoming just recently after my military service, we live right next to a railroad and trains go by about every 30 mins (they are really silent to be honest). Well my 2 year old loves it! So I am currently in a build of a similar layout in our living room. I was thinking about using plexi glass as you'll be able to see through, just an idea. But thanks for the video, is exactly what I was hoping to see.
Age is only a number. You're not a Nerd - you're someone who stays young from thinking young! If you think young - you'll stay. young! If more people thought like you - the world would be a better place! The train is awesome - I found your video looking for suggestions to do it at my house.
I am a girl and my hobbies have nothing to do with trains...Yet, I love them and want to be nerdy like you. Ha! I want to build a shelf train as well. One day!! There is just something about watching them go round....
great job. the crown molding really looks great. love the back grounds what a difference. you know if like trains you just need a floor or table to set the track up on. anything else is just gravy. I'm thinking of putting a ceiling train in my living room after seeing yours I ve decided.
Nicely done. I'll be building one for my grandkid very soon and I hope I get the same results. Nothing nerdy about this. I'm 50 and happen to like trains and all RC's. I have a few of my own. Take Care.
Thanks for sharing . . . . I'm also putting up a wall / ceiling hugger . . . . .Although ......I am using Bigger length brackets- allowing for a second train track ........ Lionel O-54 & O-42 radius corners
you like all the things that i like!! you like mechanics and cars, you like h0 scale trains, you like south park, don't tell me you even like rc planes and we're the same person!! :D
I am 50 years old and my mom is all ways asking me, "When are you going to grow up!" LOL. My wife says that me being like a kid, in some ways is cool! She occasionally sees that gleam in my eye and the excitement I have!
Fantastic! Your enthusiasm is wonderful too. It will be fun for you to share with your assistant engineers. I love my trains too, got an 027Lionel steamer when I was 9, it got me hooked. Thanks for sharing with us.
Hey Brian- cool! I also have a trainset that was given to me from my Godmother- she bought it for her husband in 1948 at JL Hudsons in Detroit, Mich. It was given to me in 1968 still in the original box...but it only runs at Christmas under the tree- I'm now a 56 year old kid!
Nice job......look up making rock or mountains out of styro foam lite weight and with a little stippling you can paint to look like real stone.......congrats.....never too old for TRAINS.....almost 60!!!!!
2:15 @briansmobile1 ... NOT at all nerdy, and if so, I'll join you in the title. I too had some cool toys growing up but not at this level. I'm looking forward to building some great sets with my 7 y.o.. He just got his first train 2 days ago (Polar Express) and to watch the joy it brings him is awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
LOOKN GOOD, Not bad for an ho starter, nice, love the mountain scenery!!😀😀 Need some grain hoppers n maybe some boxcars, but don't get the 87' as they WILL NOT MAKE IT THRU THEM TIGHT CURVES, and NOT THEM FLATCARS either, LOL😅😅
Ey listen man, there's nothin' wrong with havin' a lil kid in us. You ought to see me! I'm 42 and my 16yr old son looks at me like, "WTF!" Have fun so you can have something to reemember when your sittin' in your convalescent home!
Well, we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing. You did a super job.
I'm also a kid of 65 years and I "play" with my trains most every day. Your solution for space for a layout is very well done. The backdrops look great, as does your finish work. Thanks for sharing.

I really like what you did. I'm 57 and love trains. My parents brought me my first train when I was 10, It gets in your blood
Oh. My. Gosh. So glad I found this video!!!! The white noise is the BEST! I am totally building a ceiling layout for a small train. I have a layout in my basement but this, this SOUNDS so cool. No it’s not nerdy, or childish. It’s a hobby

Awsome set up.
Thanks for sharing.

Man, that is way cool. You are going to be the hero of your kids, nephews and nieces, and every used to be kid you know.
That is so cool. I want to try doing that. Very good idea and I like your trains.
I am very happy you are enjoying it. I am almost 60 yrs old. i like to have one like yours. good job. fun fun fun... i have few toy RC cars and enjoying them as you are.
Its a truly wonderful hobby no matter how you decide to display it. I think its GREAT.😀👍
Well done young man !
This is by far the best looking shelf system I've seen

You are like a little kid. So cute. You did great. This is why I want my son to do this for his son

Awesome! I have always wanted to do something like this. Now at age 69 I think its time I give it a try.
Great job and it turned out very cool ...love the way the dog and kids look at it as well ....they will love it for many years...
The crown and cornice in the corners really give your layout a finished look. Nice job!
Nothing nerdy about trains really nice layout, gave me a lot of ideas .
I was thinking about doing a ceiling train, thanks for the tutorial! Great job.

Just awesome mate, exactly what my son wants me to build him. You should be very proud of your efforts. Mike
Really a sweet layout. love the finished look of the corners. one pizzeria in my town has a ceiling train that for some time, only went back and forth on a short track then it finally was completed to go around the entire dining area.
Very well done. Crown Moulding makes it more appealing to eyes.
Very awesome, I'm gonna steal your plans. I just got my first TOY train at 47 years old.
Hobby of all ages... Happy people have hobbies... I have trains !
having owned a train set as a child, I use to love setting it up and tearing it down to reset it up in another way. Awesome!!!!!!!!! I'm just a kid at heart too! Thanks and have a great one!
It's HO scale which is pretty common and is prevalent in both quantity and quality. That IS a very good reason to have one.
Age is only a number. You're not a Nerd - you're someone who stays young from thinking young! If you think young - you'll stay. young! If more people thought like you - the world would be a better place! The train is awesome - I found your video looking for suggestions to do it at my house.
