Plus my vehicles got blocked or trapped in their parking spaces for 24+ hours without notice! i asked my Landlord for two days if I should possibly park elsewhere so I wouldn't get stuck; however he had no updates to provide(?!?) so I woke up this situation in process at 6am.
As an on-call backup caregiver and an individual with Limited Mobility; being denied access to one of my life-lines in this world is quite unpleasant when I tried to avoid such a situational dilemma asking for simple details which were not provided in advance or in any timely fashion.
    * This day easily could turned deadly for my 94 year old Veteran patient with Dementia who needed a ride back from his DDS appt; with another caregiver both stranded 20miles from home because PACE bus services were unable to provide return transportation services that were pre-scheduled in advance to avoid this scenario!
During the Chicagoland's June 2024 Ten day extreme heatwave my 94 yr old Navy Veteran patient and one of full-time caregivers were stranded after leaving his appt for over 4+ hours i learned later!!!
I had to coordinate with another driver to drive us both to pick up the 94 year old who gave us incorrect address but luckily I had driven him there eight months prior and I recognized the building, further south on the same route instead of the wrong address and then we were surprised that even had a caregiver with him and we truly just made room for 3 Passengers total in a 4 door sedan that he picked me up in. Now we needed room for 4 adults and the Mobility equipment that assists the patient did not fit in the sedan's trunk however it luckily folded up across the backseat passengers (myself and his caregiver that day)
it was like being contained in a roller coasters' safety bars for the transportation back! Yes, I took pics of us in the backseat because all we could do is sit and be strapped in and have a laugh.about.it.attitude moment!
I chose to document how we managed to all fit inside such a small vehicle to get the job done and safely; because it was over *90F air temps that day!
I wanted to have a time-date stamp for proof of his actual pickup time for return transportation and because his caregiver were working beyond their scheduled and Emergency times to provide assistance.
I'm on-call & back-up and pretty much can be available on short notice unless I am blocked in for scheduled construction that I was kept in the dark about when I was requesting advance notice so I could be prepared and avoid such a situation; smh!
Our driver also provided assistance getting the 94 yr old out of the car seat and using the rollator device through the garage into his kitchen so he could carry on with his dinner which was being rapidly prepared and served 3 hours late because we arrived after 7pm to his home from the pickup location.
After some light conversation, I was offered a 4oz glass of rose chablis spritzer and I was able to partake thee offer this time; because I was not driving and would be getting my assisted transportation back!
When it's the State Law and i have my CDL for over 24 years without any Accidents, No Tickets or Court Supervision on my record and I choose to keep it that way!
It is my personal rule i also abide by, that:
I never consume any alcohol while driving for several reasons. Safety is Number One!
I sure have transported a lot of other people that have over-consumed or no consumption but were impaired in other ways though!
Via: buses, cabs, cars, hearse, limos, motorcycles, and trucks over the years.
Maybe I should return to my studies and training to acquire my pilot's license or train engineer license; I have seriously considered the pilot's license as of late.
I would have to see if my Limited Mobility could derail me from performing the safety requirements of being a train engineer; I should ask!
Time will tell and then I'll tell! ~♤~
