    Sadly, I think Sony missed with this design in their persuit of uniqueness they lost themselves. I agree with you John instead of highlighting their strenghts with technolgy etc and a homage to the old building.

    What a missed opportunity this building could’ve been. It’s just an empty shell with nothing to show, sort of a resemblance of what the company has become since its heyday of the 80’s 😢.

    Aloha my brother. Watched the replay. I always love when you're in Ginza. What a historic fixture that Sony building has become over the decades. Not a fan of the architectural design on the inside but I'm sure there's a reason it was designed that way. Too many steps for me though. Haha. Thank you for sharing this my bro. 🤙

    The building looks plain but maybe it's like a white canvas, it has a lot of potential.

    The roof views and the interior views overlooking the lower floors are nice, but the concrete interior is too severe. Maybe plants would soften the exterior. At least your bike will be dry. Happy Birthday Week, John 🎉 🎈 Thank you for the tour 😊

    I miss all the Sony products that used to be featured in the old Sony Building. If I recall correctly there was a complete floor of
    Walkmen from the originals to the many variations. Also puzzled at all the steps instead of moving escalators. Getting up using the elevators certainly limits accessibility for those not looking to climb 5 stories of concrete steps. I can just imagine the lines to get on the elevators for popular events.

    I was meeting a few time Japanese friend up there at the old SONY building, cool to remind it.

    Weird to see this building "on top of" the old building. The old park area as I remember it was mainly concrete as well with a food truck. So no big loss there, I guess

    It fits with the area and it's open to the public so I give it a 👍

    The building is completely out of place and doesn't fit in with Ginza. It would have been far better had the designers or achitects designed the new Sony building similarly to the neighboring Tokyu Plaza Ginza, or the far better Tokyu Plaza Harajuku Harakado, where there's lots of glass and greenery. If this is what they came up with, it would have been better to just let the old Sony Park live on than this.

    It looks like they forgot to finish pouring more concrete with that metal framing; it just looks odd and incomplete, kinda cold and ugly. Some plants growing down it would look better I think.

      It's brutalist with a exterior frame for advertisements I bet

    • @LillyEve1
      @LillyEve1 7 годин тому

      @DavidYu-j7u Brutalism is not my favorite architecture, lol. But maybe the frame will be used for something, hopefully. The inside looked mehh and cold. At least the other buildings around it look nice.

    If the ivy covers the outside grill, there maybe some potential to the design. SDG

    Should've had the graffiti art go all the way up the sides then put the grid face on.

    It's a trend we see a lot here these days in Europe and I would say in the west in general. While it seems easier to maintain and probably also to build, it looks and feels absolutely awful.

    It definitely looks unique, though perhaps a bit underwhelming.

    Kinda sad how all these new tall buildings are blocking the sky out. Not talking about sony, just in general in tokyo.

    Has Sony lost its vision or are they trying too hard? To me, Sony is about the future of technology - shining and cutting edge, modern features and not some post apocalyptic, steampunk kinda design (though that’s also cool but just not Sony).

    Speaking of covid, if only covid never happened those 2 frickin years. The building, I like modern building design but sometimes modern architecture just blahh boring. Just my opinion

    Old type style contrast to Shibuya's Sakura center.
    Not much inspirational.
    It doesn't match to Ginza's fashion district, more like 1960's structure.

    Manila, Philippine buildings are far much better than that, like in BGC and Makati although Japan is richer than the Philippines, but Manila BGC is really amazing and futuristic. What happened to Japanese architects, engineers of old ideas?

    • @emikomina
      @emikomina 6 годин тому +4

      slow down with the generalization there buddy. just 1 ugly building doesn't mean that the whole of Tokyo looks like that. BGC itself is just a small area of Metro Manila where the vast majority is dirty and cramp. BGC and Makati itself caters to mostly the rich and foreigners, especially chinese. Calm down before you start saying BGC > Tokyo, cuz it will make you look like a fool

    • @itsit5984
      @itsit5984 6 годин тому +4

      @@emikomina Haha I was just going to comment exactly the same thing - comparing one building to a whole section of BGC, rather than Tokyo as a whole is kinda silly. And to me, the boxy glass-covered high-rises are becoming outdated and boring, so I guess that's why Tokyo is now doing less and less of those. But to be honest, I'm a fan of brutalism myself, so my perception might be a bit biased.
