Activating a World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF) Site - It's Easy and It's Fun!

- A video capturing my exploits working /P in the Lake District National Park here in the UK. I am also activating a WWFF site. Anyone can do this, you don't need to be a WWFF member or award chaser.
Activating a site can make you very popular indeed. So be ready for the pile-up!
I have no affiliation with the WWFF scheme. I simply submit my logs and help others in their quest for WWFF site contacts and achieving the associated awards of this global scheme. The WWFF website can be found at: wwff.co/ and the Protect Planet website for detailed WWFF site mapping at: www.protectedp...
WWFF site activation is a straightforward activity to participate in and you may end up joining the scheme and seeking awards. However, I strongly recommend you read the rules on the WWFF website before activation, so you know you're complying not only with the rules of the award scheme, but also in the spirit of World Wide Flora & Fauna activities. The rules are straightforward, so nothing too taxing!
This is one of many amateur/ham radio related videos on my channel. Please feel free to browse 👀, like 👍🏻 and subscribe 🔔, remembering to hit the bell so you’re notified of new videos.
Thanks.
Ian.
Well done on the video Ian, Great to see the WWFF group promoted in this way. I have been activating since 2010 and over 30,000 QSO's in logsearch so far. It's a great way to get your fix of radio in the great outdoors with hundreds of regular chasers for this program from all around the World. Good luck with your future activations and hopefully this will persuade your subscribers to give it a go.
Andy G7SQW Thanks Andy. Yes it’s fun when you’re out and about and can turn a quiet day into a busy one 😀 Sounds like you’re a pro 👍🏻 Well done!
@@ianxfs Yes exactly as you said it's great to be out and about when we have spare time. We have been to some beautiful places all over the UK and Ireland which we may have missed if it wasn't for this program.
Thank you Ian. I was reading a discussion of WWFF and POTA. I am happy to have learned so much from your video. 73 de David
Great David, glad it was of use 😀
Great video Ian thanks, must confess that WWFF has completely passed me by until now, so thanks for the heads up and enlightening me 👍
Mark G6JVY I was the same Mark ‘til someone mentioned it to me on air /P. Have fun!
Another nice video featuring the DX-Commander Expedition in all it's glory 😎 Cheers
Thanks Roly! I should be on commission 😁
@@ianxfs Nah... the pay scale is lousy..... :)
Thanks for video Ian. I live in G-FF-0014 and there are a couple of other much rarer WWFFs (SSSIs) close by but a bit more difficult to access unless on foot or dropping all the gear over a farmer’s wall! Must do these SSSIs soon for the chasers.
Yes Nick. Just a case of ensuring you’re not trespassing etc. when activating. Good luck 👍🏻
Great video Ian. Whichever scheme you choose, all that matters is you enjoy it. 73 G1AW.
Indeed Andy! 😀
Enjoyable video Ian. A friend of mine also has a Quasar 525. 👍
Adam AP Good one Adam! You don’t see double-dinettes anymore and we have the bottom end permanently made up as a bed. Full width means mega-leg room 👍🏻 which fixed bed models are short on 👎🏻 Great base for luxury /P’ing 🥂 😁
ianxfs We need every little bit of comfort we can get at my age (52) 🙄 Does the BMW tow it ?
@@adamap2796 I'll say Adam. Like there's nowt on the back!
ianxfs Good stuff, I didn’t know whether the BM would be heavy enough 👍
Nice one Ian
Thanks Tim 👍🏻
Come on Tim give it a go a great chance for another video on your channel.
Andy G7SQW funny you should say that 👍😀
@@timg5tm941 Thats great looking forward to it.
@@timg5tm941 i'm loving it ian, great crew
Nice work Ian. Enjoyed the video, and of course in the wonderful Lake District! My favourite place. I’ve not been watching much youtube the past couple of weeks, so having a good binge now:)
Matt Dixon Thanks Matt! I had a catch-up yesterday and ended up with square eyes.... 📺😅
Great insight Ian into something I didn't know about. I live just down the coast from you and there s a distinct lack of things to activate so if I do this, plus the one and only SOTA site, perhaps with a lighthouse and anything else I can collect I'll be sorted.
Go for it Stephen 😀
Impressive video again - I've SWL'd a few FF in the past - good to have some background info on it. Starting the diet here too!
Yes, diets all round! 😱
Excellent video as usual Ian. I’m hoping to be out /P for the next 70cm UKAC if your about. 73 & 44 Chris M0RSF
Chris M0RSF Yes Chris. My first go this month was hard graft! Looking forward to the Aug series 👍🏻
Just started with this activity. Sometimes not easy to find the boundaries of an FF-area. 73
Yes agreed. That website that’s listed in the rules is the only help and then it’s difficult transposing onto a detailed map. Good luck and have fun 👍🏻
Nice to the other side of portable working. I don't remember it being this good. 73 de M0AZE Mike
Thanks Mike!
It is still Radio. Stay safe.
Some parks have many WWFF reference points. How far from the reference point do you have to be? Or do you just have to be in the protected park area?....But then which reference point do you give out??
Hi Paul, yes you have to be in what is recognised as the park area. As to which id you give out when there’s multiple options for one spot, at a guess you could legitimately give both? Best to check by contacting the WWFF via their website I’d suggest. Thanks!
Very informative. Grat video Ian. Thanks M0XMX
Ham Radio VLOG Thanks Mike 👍🏻
Nice video ian im active in gff-0008 most days living here , ive done over 50 areas last year , its very addictive lol , maybee catch you next time your here, M0DXT BILL
Thanks Bill! Yes, keen to get out again /P. Stir crazy....
Great summer pass time for me once my SOTA season is finished. vk5cz ..
Enjoy William!
